TWO WEEKS LATER

"Hey George you paged?" I asked, walking into Denny's room.

George quickly shut the door as I walked in.

"You paged for help?" Izzie said, angrily. She was sitting next to Denny's bed, pumping air into his LVAD wire.

"What the hell is going on?" I asked.

"She cut his LVAD wire." George said.

"What the fuck are you doing trying to kill him?" I shouted.

"I have a plan!" Izzie responded.

"Well you might as well kill yourself too, you know how much trouble you're gonna be in."

"I'm trying to save him. All I have to do is confirm his condition got worse."

"Oh my god," I said.

The door opened and Meredith came in, "George what is it? I got a 911 page."

"You page Meredith too?" Izzie asked.

"What's happening?" Meredith asked.

"Izzie cut his LVAD wire," I said.

"What the hell! Do you want him to die!" Meredith yelled.

The door slid open again, and Cristina walked in, "What the fuck?"

"It's all fine, his condition will get worse, Burke can call U.N.O.S and he'll move up on the list, he'll get his heart."

"She's insane right?" George panicked.

"Burke will be here soon, he'll know what to do," Izzie said, still pumping.

"It's not just me is it?" George continued.

"Everything will be fine!" Izzie said.

"Ah Izzie," I frowned.

"Everything is gonna be fine, Burke will get here, he's gonna know what to do," Izzie said.

"About Burke!" Cristina shouted over all of us.

"What?" George shouted.

"He's. . .He's been shot." Cristina said.

"Burke's not coming?" Izzie said.

George went over and took over for Izzie.

"Burke's not coming. Burke's not coming," Izzie said, pacing around.

"Cristina are you okay?" Meredith asked.

"I'm fine. I'm fine." Cristina said.

"Should've taken the internship in San Diego," George said, "None of this would've happened."

"Burke's not coming," Izzie said again.

"No Izzie, Burke's not coming," Cristina said, "I know you're having problems with your potiental murder charges and your incredibly stupid idea about stealing a heart but Burke's kinda busy right now.

"Denny's gonna die," Izzie said, "Denny's gonna die and I killed him."

"Izzie don't think like that," I said.

"You shouldn't have done it!" George yelled.

"George," Meredith scolded him.

"We need to get someone," George said.

"No!" Meredith yelled, "Denny won't get the heart and Izzie will get kicked out of the program!"

"I'm leaving," Cristina said.

"What!" Meredith yelled.

"Cristina!" I said.

"You know Burke could die too," Cristina said to me, "Complications arise all the time because of gunshot wounds. You think about that."

"Oh my god," Izzie said, starting to cry.

"None of this would've happened if you had just thought!" Cristina said.

"Did you think about the rules?" George shouted.

"I did what I thought was best!" Izzie shouted back at them.

All at once the three of them started yelling at each other.Everything was happening so fast, I had no idea what to do. I tried to think of something, but I couldn't I couldn't focus.

"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" I yelled.

All of them went silent.

"No one is leaving and no one is dying," I said.

"Thank you!" Denny said, "It was kinda getting on my nerves all this dying talk."

"Denny," Izzie said.

"It's okay," he responded, "I uh think we should all listen to Brandy, looks like she might have a plan."

"You got a plan?" George looked to me.

"Give me a minute," I said, thinking.

About an hour had passed and we seemed to had got it under control.

"How's his heart looking?" Izzie asked.

"His left ventricle is shot and he's barely pushing out blood." Cristina said.

"I'm sorry," Izzie said, "Look I know that you're worried about Burke."

"You know, whatever it's fine," Cristina said, looking at the monitor.

"Cristina, can you just try to understand? I love him."

"You don't even know him."

"I do know him."

"You've never even seen him outside of this hospital. You don't know him."

"I do know him," Izzie said, "Maybe I don't live with him or work with him like you do with Burke, but I still know him. And-and there's possibility here. Given the choice of running or staying. . ."

"You should run. A sane person, who values her career. All that you've worked for. A person who values their own heart for god's sake, that person would run."

"A sane person would marry me," Denny said softly.

"What? What did you say," Izzie looked up, "What did he say? He said 'marry me' right? He said it, right?"

"He did," George nodded.

"Denny, wake up, Denny," Izzie said.

The monitor started to beep. George, Cristina, Meredith, and I all jolted up and rushed over to it.

"What-what's happening?" George asked.

"I'm pumping harder, I don't know" Izzie said, panicking.

"He's flatline," Meredith said.

"No, no," Cristina said, with a stethoscope to his chest, "There's movement in his heart. Okay, um let's shock him."

"Charge to 200," Cristina said.

"Ventilate George," I said.

"I am," he responded.

"Clear," Cristina said then, shocked him, his body jumped.

"What do we do? What do we do?" Izzie panicked, the monitor was still beeping.

"I'm starting dopamine and dobutamine drips," I said, "We can use those together, right? What about milrinone?"

"I don't know, none of us know," Cristina said, "Just do it."

"I feel like my chest is running away," Dennt said.

"Heart rate 217," Meredith said.

"He's in SVT," Izzie said.

"No, no, Izzie stop pumping, stop," Cristina said.

"No, there's no change," George said.

"I need that medicine," I said, searching through a box full of meds.

"What medicine?" Izzie shouted.

"I'll know it when I see it," I said, continuing to look.

"I-I  think the one that stops the heart," George said, "Here hold the mask."

"No, no," Denny said, his voice was muffled through the mask, "I think the whole point is to keep my heart beating."

"No, no, no, no, it only stops the heart for six seconds," Izzie reassured him.

"Brandy, it's Adenosine," George said.

"Uh his heart is speeding up guys," Cristina said.

"Guys we have to do something. Now!" Izzie yelled, "I can't take this for much longer."

"Ah what about shocking him?" George suggested.

"Found it!" I said, passing it over to George.

"Cristina come over here, lift up his arm, the nurses always do it. It gets to the heart faster."

"Izzie!" Denny screamed.

"It's okay, it's okay, you're just gonna feel um-"

"Izzie! I'm gonna die," Denny said.

"No, you're not gonna die, I'm right here," Izzie said, "I promise.

"Okay were heading back to flatline," I said, "You guys sure we used the right drug?"

"I used the one the book said," George said.

"He's not gonna die right? Right? Right? Right!" Izzie shouted.

All of us looked over at the monitor as it let out a long continuous beep which seemed to drone on forever, until it started to beep at a steady pace. Izzie let out a big sigh of relief and started pumping again when Denny started breathing raspily.

"You fools better have a good explanation for this," Bailey said.

"Step away from the patient," Bailey scolded us.

George, Cristina, Meredith, and I stepped away.

"Step away fro the patient," Bailey said, sternly.

"I can't," Izzie said.

"Olivia," Bailey commanded, "Go take over for Dr.Stevens."

Olivia walked over to Izzie and waited for her to hand over the pump, she placed a hand on her's, "Izzie,"

"No! Do not touch me!" Izzie screamed.

Bailey gave the four of us a look, "The four of you outside now." She said, "Olivia stay here, help Dr.Stevens, if she will let you.

The four of us went outside, followed by bailey.

"Where was rational thought? Where was cognitive thinking? Where was first do no harm? The morals the ethics- where was sanity when you four decided to help that girl?" she scolded us.

"We didn't-" Meredith started.

"No, no," Bailey cut her off, waving a finger in her face, "No speaking. No one speaks. I do not want to have to testify against any of you in a court of law. Not one word."

"She cut his LVAD wire," Bailey continued.

George groaned with frustration, and turned away.

"Look, I said no speaking," Bailey said.

"I didn't say anything!" George screamed at her.

"I said no moving," Bailey shouted back, "Cristina Burke is asking for you, go."

Without hesitation, Cristina left.

"I assume you ran labs," Bailey said.

The three of us were silent.

"I'm asking a question," She said, we stayed silent, "Answer me!"

"You said no speak-" I said.

"I know what I said," Bailey yelled.

"Yes," George responded.

Bailey nodded her head, "O'Malley, get me the lab results, do not pass go, do not speak to a living soul. Get the labs, get back here."

George walked off to get the labs.

"Grey. . .," She said, "Come with me."

"Bailey?" I asked.

"Stay in there with Stevens and Olivia," Bailey said.

I sighed and walked back into the room.

~

"How you feeling Denny?" Bailey asked, closing the folder with his labs, and passing it to Olivia.

"Really, really, good," he smiled, "Like an athlete or a superhero or some other kind of really healthy person."

"You're funny, you're a funny guy," Izzie said.

"Izzie, no speaking," Meredith whispered.

"I cut my own LVAD wires you know? I went rogue, all by myself."

"Shush. You're weak enough as it is," Bailey said, "Please don't waste your energy on lying."

I looked over as the door slid open, and saw Cristina walk in.

"Dr.Bailey," Izzie said.

"I did indeed say no speaking," Bailey said.

"I don't care," Izzie said, sternly, "He's gonna get the heart right? You're gonna sign the charts and talk to the transplant coordinator?"

"Uh Bailey ah here are the labs," George said, handing them to Bailey.

"See, see? His B.U.N is increasing, as well as his creatinine. He clearly has pulmonary adena, he deserves to be moved up to A1 status on the transplant list. U.N.O.S will give him the heart. You just need to call."

"Isobel Stevens," Bailey scolded, "I take my medical advice from doctors, you are a visitor."

"What?" Izzie asked.

"As of now you're a visitor in this hospital," Bailey said, "You will not be a doctor in this hospital again, until I decide you are. Olivia. Take over the heart pump."

"He gets the heart though, right?" Izzie asked.

"I'll be back," Bailey said, then walked out the room.

I sighed and sat down on the floor, "I'm sorry Izzie."

"Don't," she  started but stopped herself.

The next ten minutes we all sat silent, except for Izzie who stood next to Denny's bed, pumping and pumping. Everything was quiet except for the pump that was pushing out air. It felt like we had been sitting there hours, when Bailey finally came back to tell us the news.

"O'Malley and Dixon," Bailey said, "Get Denny prepped for surgery."

~

"She can't treat us like this. Like were children in a time out," George complained.

The five of us sat on the floor in the hallway, waiting for Denny's transplant to be done.

"It is a time out," Meredith said, "What we did is way in need of a time out."

"Way more than a time out," I said, "I'm surprised Bailey didn't feed us to the wolves are something."

"You realize we could get kicked out of the program for this?" Cristina said to me.

"Not we," Izzie said, "Just me, I was the one who cut his LVAD wire. You're probably right, I should just run, but I'd rather be running towards somebody than running away."

"Yang," Webber said, "Shep's asking for you."

"For Burke's surgery?"

"Yes. Hurry up," he said.

"I-I uh I-I can't. . . I'm in a time out."

"Time out's over. Right now!"

"Yes sir," Yang said, standing up and following Webber to the OR.

"He said marry me right? He did?" Izzie asked, "That really happened."

"It really happened," George nodded.

"It really did," Meredith said.

'Screw this, I'm checking on Denny," Izzie got up and walked away.

"George," Meredith said, "Thank you for calling me about Izzie."

"Yeah, thanks," I nodded.

"I-I really didn't do you any favors," George laughed, nervously.

"Well it meant something," Meredith said, "That you called, it meant something to me."

"It didn't mean anything," George said.

"Right. Okay. Sorry."

"Am I missing something here?" I asked.

"Stop saying that you're sorry!" George shouted.

"I'm gonna go," I said, standing up and walking down the hall.

"Fucking awesome!" I said quietly to myself, as I saw Mark walking in the hall.

"Have you seen Shepherd?" he asked me.

"Uh ,he's operating on Burke right now," I said.

"He's operating with Burke?" he asked me.

"Uh kinda not really" I said, "He's operating on him."

"What happened?" he asked.

"You didn't hear? He was shot," I said, "Look, I gotta go."

I walked away and went to find Izzie. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea for her to be watching the surgery, in case something happened.

"Izzie?" I walked into the viewing deck and looked down and saw the monitor was flatlining.

~

Okay so I know this chapter had like 0 Mark in it, I'm sorry!! I really wanted Denny to be part of this because I think he's awesome, and I thought now would be a great time for it, but I promise there will be more Mark soon!!
