Harry's POV
I hate school. It was never a fun place to be. I could never understand the work. No one would help me no matter how much I tried. I just don't. Understand it I think. I don't even know myself.
Lore: "Harry can you read this next for us?"
I heard the class groan and honestly I was on their side. I felt like I rolled my eyes so hard I could see my brain. Well I would if I wasn't so convinced there was nothing in there.
Lore: "Don't give me attitude Mr Lewis."
I looked up at the teacher as she stared at me. What the fuck is wrong with this bitch? Ugh.Keep your mouth shut Harry you don't want to get into any more trouble in this pathetic place. I let my head fall and hit the table I was sitting at.
Lore: "Mr Lewis head up."
I was starting to get sick of this. Why me? They know I can't read. They know I don't understand what they are fucking talking about. Why do they keep trying to force me into shit like this. I wish I was at home and didn't have to worry about this. I'm never going to do any of this normally. I had a YouTube channel with a few of my friends but I'm the baby still. Me and my friend Vikk were the only ones still in school. Even though Vikk was in his last year. They all helped me when they could if I came home with work I hadn't already finished at school. I tried really hard to get it all done. I really did. But there are sometimes things that can't be done without help.
Lore: "Harry can you read now?"
Harry: "Both everyone in this class and myself would rather I didn't. You know I can't do it.Why do you bother?"
Lore: "I just stated I will not take this type of attitude from you young man. You can stay behind after school today for half an hour."
I heard some laughing from the room. I start to wonder whether the school actually cares about it's students when shit like this happens.
Brett: "Or you can stop being a bitch of a teacher and actually try to help him. Have you thought about that or did you decide when you started teaching here that you were going to make it your life goal to be a complete cunt to a student and make their life hell just so you can get some brownie points."
I turned around to see the brown hair of the new kid. I think he started here maybe a week ago?I can't remember. He was alright. Lonely and shy but he was nice. I hadn't had much to do with him but I know Landon and Lachlan were some of his friends. Lachlan was in Vikk's year and I'm pretty sure those two had a thing going.
Samantha: "Brett's right. Every lesson we have you treat him like shit. And this has been going on for a lot longer then he has been here. If your going to continue to be a complete bitch then I'm not going to let you do it anymore. He doesn't deserve any of the shit you give him and we all know it. Harry is a beautiful young man who needs help with his work. Not for the teacher to treat him like the dirt stuck between their toes. Now if you will excuse me. I'm going to see the principle because I've waited too long to make a complaint about the way you single him out and treat him like shit."
Samantha was beautiful.Her long blonde hair looked like it was crafted from the silk of gold. She wasn't the thinnest person in the school but she was beautiful. I remember her from my Sports classes. She would constantly try so hard and push herself to show that she can still keep up with the guys physically. She was honestly Inspiring with how much she helped everyone or tried to keep everyone happy. She must befriends with Brett. Samantha stood up in class and grabbed her bag before proceeding to walk out the door. No one had ever stood up for me like that. The only ones that helped me were the boys. And that was because we all lived together. They made sure Vikk and I didn't have a proper job while we were studying. YouTube was different but that could only be done after we finish all our work. Hence why my channel has dropped a bit. We heard the bell ring to signal the end of class. I stayed in my seat while everyone else had started to pack their stuff and walk out. I felt a hand on my shoulder lightly.
Brett: "Come on let's go."
Lore: "Harry has detention Brett. And after your outburst be very surprised I didn't ask you to stay back with Samantha as well."
Brett: "Harry is coming with me. This is the end of of the school day. I'm taking him home.And helping him with his work whether you like it or not. Your a teacher not a tyrant. Your supposed to help students. Not make them wish they were at home all the time. A school is a place of learning and making friends. Not for being treated like shit. Harry grab your things. We are going ok?"
I nodded my head furiously. Miss Lore was furious. I could see it on her face but honestly. I'm more scared of Brett and Samantha then I would ever be of her. Plus Josh would be extremely upset with me if I was late from home again. I didn't tell them why I was always held back. I couldn't. They would take me to see someone and they would try to"fix" me and I know that's a load of shit. After packing my bag Brett stood behind me as he half pushed me out the door. Once we left. We started walking towards the front gates.
Harry: "Why did you two help me?"
Brett: "Well Samantha was one of my first friends here. She was really sweet but told me about you. How you were treated like shit because you couldn't read or understand things correctly. I won't lie to you I didn't notice it at first. It wasn't until that class when I clicked in to what she was saying. It's wrong Harry. Honestly I think you might have something wrong but at the same time. It's nothing to worry about if you know what your doing."
We headed towards the main gates to the school before I noticed Brett smiling to himself. I looked up to see a young man running up to him. Bag still on his back. Dark ish hair and a really nice smile. He almost jumped into Brett's arms before kissing him. It was cute though not my cup of tea to be honest.
Brett: "Landon I told you to head straight home. I'll meet you there."
Landon: "Yeah well maybe I wanted to walk with you."
Brett: "I messaged you though..."
Landon: "I know. And I thought it was great you helping someone out."
I watched the two of them together. It was great seeing them be so open with each other. You didn't get that here. Watching Brett holding onto Landon's hand honestly made my body warm up. It was so cute.
Samantha: "Hey guys. Hey Landon how are you?"
Landon: "Happy now. How was talking to Heeley?"
Samantha: "He said he would look into it which basically means nothing will be done unless we bring forth enough evidence against the fucking cow. How are you feeling Harry?"
Brett: "Fuck I'm a terrible person."
Landon: "No your not.I'm Landon."
He held his hand out and I shook it firmly.
Harry: "I'm Harry. Nice to meet you."
Brett: "I told Harry I'd take him back home to his place and help him out with his work. So I'll meet you back at home later ok? How about I order some pizza for later and you, me, Preston and Lachlan can watch a movie or finish off Titan."
Landon: "Are you sure? Preston's so excited I don't know if we can keep him away from it for that long."
Samantha: "Brett you go home with Landon. Don't you guys have to work on a project together anyway?"
Harry: "Isn't Landon below us?"
Landon: "I'm a year younger yes but I'm a year ahead for Science. So I have the same class as these two."
Harry: "Oh."
That explains how Samantha and Brett know him then.
Harry: "Hang on Brett you have been here a week right? You two have known each other a lot longer haven't you?"
Brett: "I was waiting for that. Yeah I've known Landon and his cousin Preston for a while.I lived with Preston back in Texas before we all moved here. He only took me with him because his parents saw how close I was to him and Landon. We have been together for over a year now. We had to convince his parents not too adopt me though. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to be with him."
Landon: "Best decision we ever made."
Samantha: "And yes Harry I still get happy and excited when I see them together."
Brett: "Your just a fan girl at heart."
Samantha: "I'm not denying the truth. Now go home. I'll help him out."
Harry: "I live with my friends. I don't want to."
Samantha: "No if's buts or maybes. I'm going to help you out ok?"
Harry: "Josh won't be happy. And neither will Simon."
Vikk: "Leave them to me yeah?"
I turned around to see Vikk standing behind us. Lachlan was with him as well.
Lachlan: "Hey Harry."
Harry: "Hi Lachlan. Vikk I'm scared."
Vikk: "Your bringing home a girl that is helping you study and get better. Trust me. They will be happy. And I will watch them ok? IT will be fine."
We heard a car horn beep as Landon, Brett and Lachlan all jumped.
Brett: "I thought we were walking."
Landon: "We were..."
Lachlan: "That's mine sorry. I'll see you guys tomorrow."
He waved us off before running ahead.
Landon: "Come on we need to go as well."
Brett: "I said I'd help him out."
Landon: "Sam?"
Sam: "Grab his hand.Kiss him. Start walking. He won't forgive himself but he won't make you upset if you try hard enough."
Brett: "Yeah because I love this boy to death and back. Fine. But you better make sure he does his work Sam."
Landon: "Nice to meet you Harry. Come on Brett let's go home."
I waved them away as they walked off. Hand in hand while still close to each other.
Vikk: "They are literally the cutest fucking couple I have ever seen. And we both know what Simon and Josh are like."
Samantha: "So Vikk you don't actually mind me coming over?"
Vikk: "Not a single. It would be great being able to do my own work straight away."
Vikk would always help me first before doing his own work. He would usually only get about three hours sleep because he would be up so late making videos with some of the older guys. But he loved it.
Samantha: "Alright let's head back then."
Time Skip
Samantha: "No Harry I need you to elongate the words when you say them. Find something unique in the way it's worded. Try to find a pattern. Whether it's a count or a sequence."
Harry: "I have fucking no idea what your talking about Sam why did you even bother?"
Samantha: "Because I wanted an excuse to see you."
Harry: "What?"
Samantha: "I wanted an excuse to see you. Is that so hard to understand. I think your really cool and a nice guy. I just kind of feel bad that I had to wait this long to say something. You seem like you wouldn't really be into a girl like me but I thought hey at least I could say something and let you know. I uh. I can leave at any time right?"
She went to get up before I grabbed her hand and pulled her close to me. Holding her in my arms.
Harry: "Please don't go.Stay and help me. I'm sorry I'm getting frustrated. I don't understand it all. And it hurts because the guys can only help me so much before I start to frustrate them."
Samantha: "How long does that usually take?"
Harry: "Not long. They tag out every time someone get's annoyed with me. Vikk and Tobi have the most patience."
Samantha: "If you don't want me to go anywhere. Then I'll stay as long as I need to."
I swear this lady has the patience of a saint. No one can put up with me that much and still want to be around me.
Samantha: "Come on we are nearly done. If you can even understand what the question is. And what it's asking for. I'll help you with the answers ok?"
I heard a car turn up our drive way before hearing the door close outside. I started to panic.What would they think if they saw Sam here. They would hate me. They always made us promise not to bring anyone home unless we told them.Or it was an emergency. But this was an emergency. She was an emergency. I needed her to be with me and help me. But I needed to feel her wrapped in my arms. I hated myself for having spent so long just admiring her from a distance and not talking to her. I turned my head to see Vikk open the front door and give me a thumbs up. He walked outside. Leaving the door open.
Josh: "Hey Vikk."
Vikk: "Hey Josh. All of you up stairs straight away."
Simon: "What? Vikk what's going on?"
Vikk: "Harry is getting help so all of you straight up to your rooms. No questions. No inquiries. Nothing."
Josh: "I told you what I said about girls."
Vikk: "And I'm not giving you a choice. Up stairs or I'll lock you all out and you can go find somewhere else to stay until he is ok."
Why would he protect me like that. This wasn't fair on the boys or me. It was selfish of me.I should have said something, To tell her not too come but I didn't want to. I couldn't.
Josh: "Vikk step aside.And get out of the door way."
Vikk: "Not happening Josh. You will have to kick me out onto the streets and out of the sidemen before I witness you guys making Harry's life worse. You didn't see them today. She really wants to help him. And your about to go in on a tirade and make it worse. Either turn around and fuck off for an hour. Or go straight up stairs."
Tobi: "Vikk can I please get through I want to get a drink then I need to edit anyway."
I watched as JJ, Ethan and Simon all walked in. Waved and went up stairs. Tobi walked in and headed towards the fridge. I was seated on a stool on the centre island doing the work while Sam sat beside me. I think she was just as nervous as we were.
Tobi: "Samantha right? I got a message from Brett. Don't worry about Josh he's like a dad to us all. He's just being over protective. You stay as long as you need to help out our baby Harry ok. It's nice to meet you."
He held his hand out as Samantha shook it. Introducing herself before he smiled and began walking off.
Tobi: "Oh before I forget. We usually eat dinner around 6:30 so if your still here your more then welcome to join us."
Samantha: "Thanks Tobi,Hopefully I'll be out by then but if not then I'm sure I can just grab something on the way home."
Tobi: "It's up to you mate. The offer is always on the table for you."
I watched him smile before walking up stairs. No one was usually that nice to anyone associated with me.
Samantha: "He's the one Brett was talking to me about."
Harry: "How did Brett know him?"
Samantha: "Something about walking into the wrong Maths class and no one realised until he was half way through the class. Lachlan called him out but he was allowed to stay in because he was actually doing better then most of the students."
Harry: "I wish I could do that. If I ever walked into the wrong class I'd get kicked out immediately because no one cares."
Samantha: "We do care Harry. It's just the idea that the teachers don't know how to help you properly with your work. So they try to push you onto someone else. And I'm kind of glad I'm here to help you right now."
I looked up at her and smiled. I think that's the first time I've genuinely smiled in a longtime.
Samantha: "Fuck it. ALL YOU BOYS COME DOWN HERE!"
I jumped as she screamed.Her voice resonating through the house. It was so loud. Foot steps were heard coming down the stairs as Tobi walked in first. Followed by Simon then JJ. Ethan was last but we heard the toilet flush so that explains that. Vikk stood to the side and walked in as Josh came racing around the corner into the kitchen.
Josh: "Don't talk to us like that."
Samantha: "Don't treat Harry like he's a baby. He's his own person and can look after himself. My name is Samantha. I'm in his English and Geography classes. The class kind of looks away from him while he tries to do the work and our English teacher Miss Lore is an absolute bitch of a woman and tried to give him an After school detention simply for not looking up in class. His head hit the table and she damn near blew up. So Brett got him out and I complained to the principle. So hopefully something happens there. I won't let him be oppressed and treated like shit in class anymore so from now on expect to see me Semi-Regularly. I'm going to be helping him out as much as I can so that he eventually becomes happy again."
I looked at her with disbelief written all over my face.
Tobi: "Well I'm fine with it. Anyone willing to help Harry is a friend to me. Josh your being a dick already go upstairs."
Simon: "Your the only one with a problem here Josh."
Josh: "Fine. I have shit to do."
He walked out and upstairs to his room. A small bang could be heard.
Ethan: "Don't worry about him Sam it's nice to meet you."
The boys started to trickle out of the room.
Vikk: "I think you guys are adorable. Have fun you two. I have some Science work to get done."
Samantha: "Going to ring up the whole house this time?"
Vikk: "Now that I know Brett and Landon are in the same class. Yeah. Anyone could help me think outside of the box. See ya."
He grabbed a bottle of water before leaving. I looked back towards Sam seeing her smile at me.
Samantha: "Nothing until you finish your work."
Harry: "Please stay for dinner."
Samantha: "I might be able to talk to mum about letting me stay if she knows I'm helping a student. I want to look into something as well."
Harry: "Look into what?"
Samantha: "You. I have an idea that might be able to help you."
Harry: "I don't get it."
Samantha: "Have you ever heard of Dyslexia Harry?"
