3rd POV
Venus is waiting right outside of the parking lot with a few folders in hand as she checks the time waiting to see that Jones should be arriving right about now. What she didn't see was that Wendell also arrived at the Jeffersonian as he was looking around until he spots Venus about to call her out until he sees a car pull up right in front of her as she looks through the window talking to someone as the person comes out of the car. Wendell watches a bit confused on who the guy was as he couldn't get a good view of his face as he just sees him telling something to Venus making her blush a bit as she says something back and tries to give him some files as he shakes his head a bit and opens the door for her seeming to invite her in to go somewhere. Wendell watches as she sighs a bit but gets into the car as the guy closes the door making his way to the driver seat before driving off. Wendell wasn't very pleased seeing what was going on, and it seemed like the two were close to one another which he didn't like seeing as well. So, he decided to quickly get into his car and follow them to see what was going on.
Venus and Jones finally arrived at the restaurant talking as Wendell was in his car not too far able to see the two as he was mentally arguing with himself as he says, "Why am I even here? I know Venus would go on a date with another guy right after we broke up. That's not her at all... It can be a friend of hers or maybe one of those meetings she has for the Jeffersonian." He nods a bit trying to convince himself otherwise as he then sees the waiter bringing the two some wine as the guy then grabs her hand as he then says, "But that guy can have different intentions." Over with Venus Jones grabbed her hand as he tells her, "You know that you won't be doing this mission alone right?" Venus gives him a small smile, "Thanks for wanting to go with me, but I have to do it alone. I don't want to put your life in my hands Jones, I wouldn't know how to cope if something happened to you because of me." "You worry to much, plus I'm older than you kid. I can clearly handle taking care of myself yah know. Improved a lot since you left. Plus I'm pretty sure I should be the one saying that instead."
Venus chuckles a bit, "Alright, never did I say you couldn't take care of yourself, but I rather need you here because you can help me out much more than out there. You know what to do for either when I come back or don't." "Which you will." "Hopefully. But point is I need you here to keep an eye on things for me." He nods understanding, "Alright kid, you got it. But when you're done, you better call me first." "I promise I will, as long as you come pick me up." He smiles, "You got yourself a deal little Lioness." The two-chuckle shaking hands as Jones start drinking his wine as he looks at Venus who just holding hers. He then says to her, "I wonder who the person that followed us wants?" Venus sighs, "That's Wendell..." "You're boyfriend?" "Used to be boyfriend." He looks at he a bit surprised, "So you really did break it off with him." She nods, "Yes, I thought it would be best." "Thought? Do you still think the same right now?" "I- I'm not sure..." He nods a bit, "How about you drink on it for now and relax a bit, don't worry about your case or the soon departure." Venus gives him a small smile, "You just want to know how I look drunk." He smirks a bit teasingly, "Just a bit." "You need to find yourself a girlfriend." "Why? You interested in me? Sorry kid, you're young for me." "Not, interested, you rather pass looking like my dad." "Ouch." The two laugh a bit as Venus goes ahead and starts drinking the wine. About 20 minutes later she finishes the cup as she was already drunk making Jones laugh, "It still cracks me up seeing such a scary and serious girl like yourself get drunk so fast and easily."
Venus just mumbles as he then gets up paying the bill and coming back to her helping her up, "Alright kid, let's get you back home for the night." While Wendell was still watching inside his car seeing the two coming out of the restaurant as the guy is keeping Venus up indicating that Venus was drunk as he then sees the guy starting to guide her to his car making Wendell feel irritated and worried about her safety as he quickly gets out of the car as he watches the guy wrap his arm around Venus going to open his door as he then shouts out, "Hey!" Jones stops looking to see it was Wendell who called him out who was quickly making his way over to them. Being a bit amused to what Wendell was thinking of doing he starts playing around a bit as he gives Wendell a smile greeting him, "Hello, can I help you with anything?" "Where are you going with her?" Jones looks at Venus who was semi passed out, "Huh? Oh, her, I was going to take her to her place. Why do you perhaps know her?" "Yeah, I do. I know her very well, who are you and what are you doing here with her?" "You can say I'm a close acquaintance to Venus, we just finished dinning together. But by seeing how protective and concerned you look seeing her with me, then it means her boyfriend right?"
Wendell was a bit surprised as he nods, "Yes, I'm her boyfriend, so I would appreciate if you hand her over." Jones smiles carefully handing Venus to Wendell who holds her close to him as Jones then says, "By the way, the name is Jones." Wendell thinks about it recalling that name from somewhere as it clicks into him as it was the guy who had that party with all the higher politicians and higher rank soldiers in which he and Venus where able to get into thanks to him as Wendell says, "Jones, as in Venus old soldier buddy right?" Jones nods chuckling a bit, "So you do remember me then. Nice to see you again boy and perfect timing as well. I have to still get going but take the little Lioness back home safe for me alright." Wendell nods as he watches Jones smirking a bit getting into his car and driving off. Wendell sighs a bit relieved seeing that it was really just an older friend and not a random guy that was trying to hit on her as he looks down at Venus who was now in his arms knocked out.
He has a small smile missing the feeling of her in his arms but a bit disappointed that they couldn't talk about why she suddenly decided to break up with him as they were doing so great together. He sighs a bit lighting her up into his arms and carries her to his car as he places her into her seat strapping the seatbelt as he then hears Venus whispers out, "I'm sorry Wendell." Wendell stops looking at her seeing a small tear falling down her face as he looks at her a bit sadly wiping it off as he says softly, "Why can't you be honest with me and tell me what's on your mind, Doll." He then shuts the door and goes to the driver seat driving off to her place. They finally arrive as Wendell carries her out of the car to her apartment as he rings on the door as it opens revealing Brennan who looks at Wendell who has a sleeping Venus in his arms surprised as she says, "Mr. Bray, please come in." Wendell nods, "Thank you Dr. Brennan." He goes into the apartment and makes his way into Venus room as he sets her down slowly onto her bed as both leave the room closing her door as Brennan says, "She didn't mention that she'd be dinning with you." "Uh, no... I was just passing by when her friend had to leave and asked me to bring her back."
Brennan nods, "I see. Well, I appreciate you bringing her back home Mr. Bray." "No problem, Dr. Brennan." She nods as she takes a look at him as she then says, "Seeing how calm and relaxed you are I'm assuming Venus told you her reasons of wanting no attachments before she leaves into war." Wendell looked absolutely in shock not knowing about it as he asks, "What?!" Brennan could see this as she then says, "I see that I am wrong and you didn't know about it. I retract my statement from earlier." Wendell looks at her, "What do you mean before going to war? Are you saying that Venus is joining the army again?" Brennan nods a bit as she then says, "I know that I started this... but I believe it's best if you talk to her about it." Wendell brushes his hair back not believing what he was hearing as he asks, "When-when is she leaving Dr. Brennan...?" "After this case is done." Wendell takes a deep breath not believing what he was hearing as he then says, "I- uh... I have to go Dr. Brennan..." Brennan nods escorting him out as she says, "Drive safe Mr. Bray." Wendell just nods as he was shocked and in disbelief about all of this and how soon everything was coming as he really needed to think about it before he did anything.
Venus POV
The next day Temp and I were at the lab in Cam's workspace as we explained to her what we found about the victim as she asks, "Starved to death?" Temp nods, "Yes. Notice the demineralization, particularly in the large bones." "But his place was full of food. Not good food, but basic sustenance." I nod, "The histology report shows decrease bone mass and a mark deficiency in calcium. He starved to death." "After being hacked?" I nod, "Yes. That could take anywhere from several days to a month." "So after he was attacked, he was somehow immobilized?" "Based on insect activity, Hodgins says he was trapped under a collapsed pile of his hoardings." "Oh, that's horrible." I nod as we then see Daisy run inside very excited as she says to us, "Oh, my God! I'm so excited! I just heard the news! I could burst!" Cam asks, "What news?" "Dr. Brennan has been asked to head up the Maluku Island project! Isn't it so exciting? I just knew they were gonna ask her!" The three of us were quiet not sure what to say about it as Daisy just looked at us with excitement.
We were up on the platform as Temp brings in a machine as I explain, "The Raman spectroscope uses lasers and light diffusion to measure minute changes in chemical composition." Daisy then says, "This machine would be very useful on Maluku Islands." Temp then says, "I've already suggested it to the organizers." I nod adding, "I've even informed them that the Jeffersonian will help with providing any sort of equipment needed." Daisy then asks, "So you're both coming?" I shake my head, "No, I'm not Daisy." Temp says, "Agent Booth, Venus, and I are partners. I have to discuss it with them first." Daisy shrugs, "Well, he's probably gonna go be a big hero in Afghanistan." Temp then says, "He says he doesn't want to go." "Lance said that Booth has the psyche of a true warrior. That it's a miracle he hasn't gone back long before this. Maybe you're holding him back the same way he's holding you back." I cough a bit as Temp was looking at Daisy who looks at me as I give her a look saying that she probably shouldn't have said that as she says it out loud, "I shouldn't have said that. But sometimes my mouth just has a mouth of its own."
I try to get us back to the case as I then begin telling them, "We have to determine the precise day the victim was struck." I grab the skull setting it on a smaller pedestal as Daisy says, "Day of attack, not the day of death. Yeah. How?" I smile as Temp explains, "We want you to measure the amount of remodeling that occurred since the attack." "Oh, my God! That's genius. You have to come to Maluku. You don't want me being honored by the National Society of Anthropologists without you, do you?" "Remodeling, Ms. Wick." Temp and I leave as we were going to meet Booth.
Both, Temp and I were at the park sitting on a bench as Booth says, "So, Bones, Blueberry, here we are. What's all the mystery about?" Temp explains, "I've been offered the chance to head up the Maluku Island project." Booth nods, "Yeah, I heard. Daisy told Sweets, and Sweets told me." "Oh. I'd like to accept." I smile a bit knowing that this was going to happen as Booth then says, "Hmm. I thought you already had; you know?" "The three of us have been partners for five years, Booth. I wouldn't make a decision like this without talking to either of you." I then say, "I say do whatever you want that will make you happy Temp. I'll always support your happiness no matter what." Booth adds, "Bones, look, you don't need my permission, okay? It's cool." Temp looks at him, "You say that, but you won't look at me. You're the one that taught us the value of making eye contact." I add chuckling a bit, "Yeah, I even remember you keeping my head still for hours until I didn't break eye contact from Caroline. Saying that if I can withstand her stare than anyone else would be easy to look at." Booth then says, "And I still stand correct." Temp then asks him, "So, please?" Booth nods looking at her as he apologized, "I'm sorry. I just- I don't do really good with changes, I guess." I nod agreeing, "Change sucks doesn't it." He nods agreeing as Temp says, "You two are better than I am."
Booth then jokes, "Pyramids are better at change than you are." Temp was confused as I chuckle a bit as he then says, "It's a joke. I was being affectionate." "Ohh." Temp chuckled a bit with the both of us as I ask Booth, "Will you go back to the army?" "It's what's best for me right now. Are you going to tell Wendell where you're going?" I was silent for a bit until Temp then says, "I must apologize as well." We look at her confused as I ask, "For what?" "I didn't know that you haven't informed Wendell of your departure to the army as I may have mentioned it to him when he brought you back home last night." My eyes widen as I say, "You what? He what?" I sigh a bit looking at the ground as I shake my head as I put on a small sad smile, "It's alright Temp... It may be best if you told him instead... I don't think I would have the guts to do it myself for some reason." Booth pats my back comforting me as Temp then says, "I'll only be gone for a year." Booth nods, "Yeah, me too. So, hey, what's a year?" "It's the time it takes the Earth to make a full revolution around the sun."
I chuckle a bit as Booth just stares at her as I then say, "I think he meant in the scheme of things." Booth nods, "Yeah, you know, the grand scheme just saying a hear is just-" Temp seems to understand nodding, "Oh." "It's not too bad." He then adds looking at me, "It seems that you're going to be the one having to greet us instead huh, blueberry?" I put up my best smile nodding, "It... uh... It seems like it will like that. Right..." They nod, "Right." "Right." Temp adds, "We can come back, pick up where we left off. Nothing really has to change." Booth shakes his head, "No, things have to change. You know what? Hey. I taught you both about eye contact. Bones taught me about evolution, and Blueberry taught me about appreciation. So, here's to change." Temp and I both smile as we join, "To change."
Temp and I were back at the lab as we walk over to Hodgin's workspace alongside with Cam as he explains, "I took the unhatched silverfish eggs, made a milk shake and ran it through the mass spec." Cam asks, "To find out what poisoned them?" "Not poisoned but rendered infertile." I nod asking, "Suggesting chemical agents or radiation?" "Radiation. What I found were phyllosilicate minerals, along with some interesting metal oxides, very small traces of vitrified clay and uranium-235." Cam asks, "So an atomic bomb?" 'No, something much more interesting than that." He then goes to his computer pulling up an image of a gnome as I look at it a bit astonished as Cam asks, "An atomic gnome?" "Basically, yeah. This is the Fiesta Ware Christmas Gnome, circa 1941. Now the uranium was a common ingredient in the glaze on these gnomes... until the Second World War, when all production of the red Fiesta Ware gnome was halted."
I then say, "To be honest, this is the first time I've been really surprised on our findings... never thought I should've studied about gnomes so here's my question. The victim claimed he possessed something worth $50,000. How much is the gnome worth?" Hodgins searches it up as a bidding price was uploaded as Hodgins answers, "$50,000." I nod, "I am somehow still shocked by this..." Cam then says patting my back, "We have our motive at least." I just nod she continues, "Now we just have to find the person who collects radioactive Hobbits." We then see Sweets come inside the room wearing all black as he says, "Mr. Adventure's here, ready to kick some biker ass." I then say pointing to Sweets, "Now that's something more I'm used to." I walk away as Cam says, "Please don't explain."
Temp and I stayed at the lab in the bone examination room as I didn't even realize that I feel asleep until I hear Cam say, "You two been here all night?" I jump a bit falling off my seat as both Cam and Temp looks at me a bit shocked as Cam comes over helping me up as I say, "I'm fine. Thanks." She nods as Temp says, "Are you okay?" I nod as Cam then says, "Alright, back to my question, now that your good." Temp then asks, "Well, is it morning?" Cam nods, "Yes." I sweat drop a bit, "Oh... we've been here all night then..." Cam nods as she asks, "You find anything new?" Temp nods, "Yes. These marks weren't caused by a hatchet or knife. The direction of force is opposite to the direction of impact." "What would do that?" I answer, "A propeller." "So he walked into a plane?" I shake my head, "No, more likely a fan. The crime scene is full of fans." Temp sighs a bit as Cam then asks her, "Are you really leaving the Jeffersonian?" Temp nods, "Yes. For a year. I can provide you of forensic anthropologists who can do this job." Cam smiles, "No, Dr. Brennan, you can provide me with a list of forensic anthropologists." I smile a bit understanding as Temp doesn't as she says, "I don't know what that means." I look at Temp, "It's alright Temp." She nods as I stand up and ask Cam, "Would you like to get some breakfast with me Cam?" She nods, "Sure thing." I turn to Temp, "Do you want me to get you anything in specific Temp?" She nods, "A fruit salad would be preferable." I nod, "Okay." Temp and I leave to get breakfast.
Temp and Booth were in the interrogation room with the victim's former coworker as well lover as I watch Temp slide some pictures of the two smiling happy together as Temp explains, "We found your fingerprints on the fan." She begins to cry a bit, "I was in love with Tim." Booth then asks, "When was the last time you guys were together?" "Over a year. I thought if I could just get him out of that apartment- Maybe if the sun hit his face, he would change... and we could have a real life. So, I pulled him to the window, and I ripped down the curtain- And he lost it." "You two fought?" "He attacked me. So, I pushed the fan at him and I ran away. But I didn't think I killed him. I loved him, but there was nothing I could do." I sigh a bit as Caroline then says, "Well, that's that then. They're free to go." Sweets then asks, "You don't think this success might make them change their minds?" Caroline looks at him as she says, "You know what? You're a nice kid. But today is a good day for you to grow the hell up." Caroline leaves as I pat Sweets back, "It may sound mean, but it's the cold truth Sweets." He nods looking at me, "You're leaving as well?" I nod, "Yeah... It's the only way Sweets." "I don't get it." I chuckle, "It's all right."
After we solved the case I went back home finishing up packing everything that I need in a bag pack as I changed into my uniform as I look in the mirror taking a deep breath never thinking or ever hopping to put this on one last time. Temp was going to arrive at the apartment later to pack as she had some things to finish at the lab. I go downstairs with my stuff as I made sure to give Jupiter a hug before I left as Temp was going to take him to the airport and leave him with Cam who will be taking care of him while I'm gone as I see Jones waiting right outside the steps as he gives me a smile and a salute as I give him one back going down the stairs as he puts my bag into the back of the seats as I get into the passenger seat as we drive off to camp base. I'll be meeting Booth there as well as I think about not wanting to leave without saying a proper goodbye to Temp and my friends as Jones and I are walking after we signed in as I then say, "Jones?" "Yeah?" "You think you could distract others for me while I get Booth and go say bye to my sister and friends?" He smiles, "Give me something harder, distraction is my specialty." I chuckle, "I know and thanks." He nods, "No problem kid. Now go." I nod as I turn around and start running to find Booth.
Booth and I finally make it to the airport as we had to run all the way over here as we look around for Temp as we finally spot her. It seems that Jupiter did as well as he barks quickly breaking away from the group as I smile bending down as he comes right over to me almost tackling me as his tail wags as I start petting him, "I know boy. I'm happy to see you again before I leave." I then stand up as the rest of the group turns looking at us a bit stunned seeing us in uniform as Temp starts making her way over to us as we smile at her and Booth explains, "Sorry. I couldn't get a pass." I add, "I didn't ask, but I got Ranger here and we sneaked off the base to come say good-bye." Booth nods as he then says, "Listen Bones, you gotta be really careful in that Indonesian jungle, okay?" "Booth, in a week you and Venus are going to a war zone. Please, both of you. Please don't be a hero. Please just... don't be you." I smile chuckling, "Never have I heard someone urging me to not be a hero or do right... but we'll try I suppose." We all smile at each other as we all grabbed each other hands as Booth says, "One year from today, we meet at the reflecting pool on the mall. Right by the-" Temp and I answer, "Coffee cart." Temp adds, "I know. One year form today."
We let go of each other hands as I give Temp a big hug as she does the same for me as well as I could feel tears onto my uniform as I smile a bit. We separate as Booth and I wave by to the others as they wave as well as we begin turning away leaving. That was until I hear someone calling me out making me freeze in place. I turn around again just to see Wendell as he runs towards me as I ask confused, "Wendell? How did you-" But I was cut off as he gets right in front of me bringing me into a deep kiss for a few seconds. We then separated as I try to say something only for him to cut me off, "Just listen to me Venus. I don't want to break up with you, nor ever think about breaking up with you, I won't ever let it happen. You're the only one for me since day one when we first met. I understand and see why it would be easier to have no attachments because you might feel burden of the thought of me worrying and waiting for you constantly every day. But I get to chose if I want to worry and wait for you Venus. It may be a struggle sometimes knowing that you are going to be in constant danger, but I chose to do all that and wait for you however long it takes."
I looked at him stunned as I say, "But-" He cuts me off once again placing his hand on my face softly looking deep into my eyes as I could see the love and sorry, "I'm going to wait for you Venus. I'm choosing this because I love you Venus and I wouldn't have it any other way. All I'm asking for you is to come back to me, alright." A small tear drop falls down my face as he brushes it off with his thumb giving me a small warm smile as I nod as I softly say, "Okay." He smiles as we give each other another kiss that had full of our love as we then separate as I give him a small smile as I then ask, "By the way, how did you know I was here?" He smiles a bit, "Booth texted me that you two will be here." I looked over at Booth as he smiled at me showing me his phone as I chuckle a bit as I turn to Wendell. "Thank you, Bub. I have to go now back to base; Jones distraction might be starting to falter seeing how long we've been gone." He nods giving me a kiss on the palm of my hand as he tells me, "Be careful." I nod, "I'll do my best." He nods as we let each other go as I begin walking away with Booth looking at Wendell one last time as we both give each other a smile.
