-Venus POV-
I was not able to help in the last case with the man that has two wives and a third women with his kid since I was very busy that week with being new temporary Director of the Institution. But since no one really knows at the institution except for Temp and Booth about my title, I got a lecture from Cam about not attending or working on the case. But I was let off since I said that I was needed to do some other things. But I was really disappointed that I was not able to do that case since it sounded a lot of fun. Plus, Zack, Angie, and Hodgins said that me there wasn't the same when doing a case. I also accidently found out while fixing some things at the institution ventilation system that Cam and Booth are a couple... I still haven't said anything to Booth yet, since it is not the time, and I don't want others hearing what I wasn't supposed to see that day...
Temp, Booth and I are in the elevator going up to a crime scene as we watch Booth dancing a bit to the elevator music. Temp then asks, "You like this song?" "Nobody likes this song." "Oh. You're dancing to it." "I may be swaying a little." He starts humming as I say, "And humming." "Blueberry, Bones, you know, it's just something that you do in the elevator." "I know Ranger, just pulling your leg there." Temp adds, "Buddhists say that if we can lose ourselves in the moment, without distraction or desire, we experience truth." Booth looks at her, "Why can't you just hum like a normal, happy person?"
The doors then open revealing a disastrous room as Temp says, "Not really in the mood." "Okay, here we go." We exited out as Radziwill came over to us, "Special Agent Booth. And I'm gonna assume that these are both Dr. Brennan's." We nod as Booth says, "Bones, Blueberry, Alex Radziwill. He's, uh, you know, from the State Department." Temp then says, "Why'd you say it like that?" Radziwill then says, "Booth believes that the state Department was put on Earth to protect bad guys from the FBI." Temp then says, "I count three dead?" I add, "Sis, there is four. Thre's one behind the bar. Also, it's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Radziwill, you could call me Venus instead, so it would be easy for my sis and I." "Yes. You have a good eye Dr. Venus, we already I.D.'d him as the bartender. This was a cocktail party after a conference on drug trafficking in South America. The keynote speaker was Colombian judicial attaché Dolores Ramos."
Temp then asks, "Did she survive?" "Minor burns, smoke inhalation. She'll be fine. Luck of the draw." I look around as Temp looks at Booth, "You seem uncomfortable. Does his size make you self-conscious?" "Bones." "Temp." "It's a condition; skeletal dysplasia. Pseudo-achondroplasia or SED congenita?" "Bones!" "What?" "Dr. Brennan, I can see that you're a straightforward person. I can see you and your sister are very much the opposite of each other, and as much as I appreciate that quality, what you're asking me is neither your business not relevant." "But it's my business because I'm a forensic anthropologist." I add, "But he is right sis on how it is not relevant, plus we are here to look at the crime scene." "Yes, your right."
Booth then asks, "So, what happened here? Bomb?" "The blast came from the room next-door. Your people are working on the cause right now." We then hear Cam say, "I'm betting Colombian drug types. They just love blowing people up." Radziwill then says, "Before she was attached to the embassy, Dolores Ramos was a prosecutor in Bogota. She had plenty of enemies in the cartels." Booth then asks, "You I.D. anyone else besides the bartender?" "Hector Madure, Chief of Police from Quito, Ecuador." Cam then says, "I brought you both in to confirm the identity of his wife-she's the extra-crispy one."
Radziwill then says, "Father Gabriel Ruiz. He ran a drug program for kids in Bogota." Booth then says, "Well, you know, it's a big score for the drug cartels. Any one of these people, you know, make a good target." "I'm gonna check on the condition of the survivors. You need anything, just holler." "Will do." "Thank you." Temp and I walk over to the victim as Booth came over to us, "What do ya got, Bones, Blueberry?" Temp starts, "Female, mid-40s." I continued, "The bone structure fits this picture of Constanza Madure pretty closely. Dental work will confirm." Temp adds, "And the debris embedded in the remains suggest an explosion." I nod as Booth says, "So does that giant hole in the wall there." I chuckle as Temp says, "Hmm. Part of the navicular, the top of the left foot. Not hers." I look around as I say, "There are other bone shards scattered here."
Booth looks around too as he asks, "You mean like extra bits?" I nod as Temp says, "Yes. These are fragmented from the blast." We hear things fall from a distance as Temp continues, "There's bone fragments here in the wall. I think someone was standing in this room very close to the bomb when it went off." Booth then says, "Well it had to be the bomber, right? I mean, talk about instant karma." I shrug as Temp adds, "The question is, where are the rest of the remains?" I look around as Booth suggests, "Vaporized maybe." I shake my head, "Unlikely. Oh. Found something." "What is it Blueberry?" "An external occipital protuberance. Fissure indicates thermal detachment. Which basically means the back of a human skull."
Booth then yells out, "Cam, any of your bodies missing a protuberance." "No, all of these remains are fully intact." "Fully intact." I look up behind Booth as I say, "Bingo, I found it!" Booth looks at me, "Found what?" I point my flashlight up towards the roof as it revealed the other body that we were missing as Booth says, "Oh!" We all looked at each other.
We are back at the lab as Booth starts explaining to us, "Arson investigators say that the explosion definitely originated in the room next to the cocktail party." Cam then asks, "Who was checked in there?" "Nobody. It was being, uh, renovated." I then say, "Well, paint, combustibles, they would have added to the force of the fire and explosion." Booth nods, "So maybe the bomber got caught by his own explosion." Temp corrected him, "Her own explosion." "Wait, the bomber is a female?" I nod as Temp says, "The sciatic notch doesn't lie." Cam then added, "Neither does the vagina." "Whoa. Uh, wait a minute. Whoa, wait a minute. You're saying the skull was so hot that it exploded, but the, uh, girlie parts are still intact?"
We climbed up the platform as Cam answered, "She was thrown into that chandelier above the fire. The deep tissue remained intact." "Thank you for that. Uh..." I wave goodbye to Booth as he leaves as Hodgins then says, "Particulates embedded in the remains are combination of glass, wood splinters, plaster and drywall." Zack adds, "The bomber is Caucasian, five feet four, late teens, early 20's. Still no I.D." Cam then adds, "Hair sample makes her a bleach-bottle blonde." I then add, "Ankylosis in the right trochlea and capitulum and scaphoid, which are occupational markers from carrying a tray."
Hodgins then says, "Mad bomber teenage assassin waitress?" I shrug as Cam says, "She might not have had a choice." Temp then says, "I don't understand." I then say, "The cartels force people to do what they want. The waitress refuses, the cartel wipes out her family." Hodgins the says, "I'm running chemiluminescence tests now to get a chemical fingerprint, and the chromatography to see what triggered the blast.
Angie then comes over to us, "I scanned the skull and reconstructed a face." She goes on the computer as it shows us the reconstruction. Cam then says, "Send it over to Booth. If drugs are involved, maybe she has a record." Angie then says, "Yeah, I already did that." "Listen, people, please, don't be sending stuff without informing me first." Temp then says, "But you wanted her to send it. I heard you." "But not without first..." I just patted Cam's shoulder, "There is no point to argue about it Cam." She sighs, "Just run everything by me first, okay? Every circus needs a ringmaster. In this circus, it's me." I did a small salute to her as I lean on Zack that was behind me and we all watch as Cam walks away.
Temp and I went over with Booth to talk with Radziwill. We just got off the elevator with him as he says, "All we ask at the State Department is that you treat this woman with the respect she is due as a friend of this country." Booth then says, "I know how to question the witness." "I am here at the request of the Colombian ambassador, Judge Ramos and the State Department." I did a small sigh as Temp says, "Well, that's disingenuous. What are the chances that all three would ask you separately?" "Why are you being so confrontational?" "You're used to people deferring to you because of your size. It's a normal response that you take advantage of. I don't like it." "Temp..." "Here we go." "Well, see? Even you both don't want to say anything to hurt his tiny feelings."
I then add, "She is not referring that your feeling are tiny Mr. Radziwill." "Yes, I meant that you have feelings about being tiny." "The ramifications and repercussions of impeded access will compromise accommodative responses detrimental to your unabated participation in our shared endeavors." Temp gave us a look saying that she was confused as I chuckled and Booth says, "That's State Department speak. 'We don't do it his way, we'll get fired." "See? If a regular-sized person tried to intimidate you, you'd threaten to kick him through the window. Ven... well, she takes any insult lightly if it's about herself... so this doesn't apply to her. But because in his case it's an actual physical possibility..." I chuckle, "Sis, we could debate about this all day, but why don't we just question the judge for today." Radziwill then says, "Thank you." "You're welcome." We start walking as Booth then says, "That was a nice moment- you know, me translating for you. Heh."
We are sitting down with Mrs. Ramos as she says, "I was speaking with Father Ruiz when the bomb went off. I believed his body protected me from the blast." Mr. Ramos adds, "I was barely touched. Father Ruiz was a very close friend of ours." Booth then asks, "Did you see this woman at the hospitality suite at the time of the explosion?" "No." "You're sure? She wasn't serving drinks, anything like that?" "The service staff were all from the embassy. Who is she?" Radziwill answers, "She may have been the bomber." I then say, "Mr. Radziwill..." "The State Department recognizes Judge Ramos as a great friend to this country and has charged me with keeping her apprised of this investigation." I smile and add, "Did you or anyone receive any threats at the embassy before the conference?"
Judge Ramos shakes her head as she says, "We are always receiving threats. It's a fact of life for us." Mr. Ramos adds, "The government provides my wife and our family with bodyguards. We have lost loved ones in the past." "A daughter, eight years ago." I nod, "Our condolences." Mr. Ramos then asks, "Do you believe this woman to be connected to the cartels?" Temp then says, "We haven't identified her yet." Radziwill then asks, "Perhaps, Judge Ramos, your friends in Colombian law enforcement could be of help." "Yes. Of course. Anything to aid the investigation." Booth says, "Thank you, Judge Ramos. That's all for now."
I had asked Booth to drop me off back to the lab as I got there I walked up to the platform with Zack and we started to examine the body and get dental records for we could compare the victim too. While the computer process everything we decide to go down and talk with Hodgins. Luckly we bumped into Hodgins as he informs me what he found back at the citing. He explained how the heat blast deposited the first layer of hydrocarbons and the second layer contained toluene and benzene; oxidized paint. But he also found a wall that only had oxidized paint on it. Which means that there was something between the wall and the fire, but gone when the explosion occurred. I nod as he said that Angie was going to figure out what was there and then I suggested that we do another experiment. Both boys got excited but then determined that Cam wouldn't give us permission of doing an experiment. I chuckled and told them that I will handle getting the permission. We all high-fived each other excitedly.
Cam then comes over to us and called for Zack and I, so Hodgins left back to his workspace as we walked over to Cam and go up the platform as she asked to tell her everything. Zack then asks, "What do you want to know?" "Everything." I first started explaining, "The explosion shifted the placement of the teeth in the maxilla and the mandible." Zack continued, "We repositioned them so that we can match the dentals. The computer is looking now. Why do you suddenly want to know everything?" "I think there's a tendency here for each of us to work too independently." I shrug, "I guess so..." Zack then says, "My closes acquaintance outside work is a woman I know who's a performance artist. Last month she enclosed herself in a plastic box with six rabbits. It went over quite well. Perhaps you've heard of her?"
I chuckle and pat Zacks head, "That was cute Zack, but she just meant that she wanted to know everything about the case only." He nods as we hear the computer found a match and we looked at it as he says, "Lisa Winokur." Cam then says, "Yep, never heard of her." "Me neither." "Isn't she the rabbit woman?" I chuckle, "No that's Sasha Hill, who he is referring to is the victim, Lisa Winokur." "Oh. Good. I'll let Booth know you I.D.'d the victim." Zack then says, "If you'd like to know anything else..." "I think I'm up to speed for now. But thanks." We watch her leave as I say, "Zack you are one of a kind. In a good way." "What I said was really cute?" "Yup, sometimes I wish I could take you home, ya know." "I don't mind..." "Your funny Zack, but I will invite you over soon alright." "Yeah, I'd like that." "Alright, I got to go now and get that permission for our experiment now." "Okay, good luck." I grabbed Zack's face and brought it down and kissed his forehead and went off to my office to make a professional note of permission to do the experiment as Zack just waved me a goodbye.
Booth had picked me up earlier so we could do some interviews at the club. We are talking with a waitress named Denise as she tells us, "Lisa wasn't scheduled to work last night. She just came in on her own as a customer, picked up a guy." Booth then asks, "Know anything about him?" "Looked Hispanic. That's not PC to say, but you want details, right?" "Mm-hmm." She started to look at Booth a bit flirtatious as she says, "And it looked like he had money, too." "How tall was he?" "I don't know, but he was sitting when I saw him. Look, Lisa was a good kid, but... she used to scope the place for rich guys."
I nod as she continued, "This guy last night... she zoned in on him real hard. Took him upstairs, you know, for privacy." Booth asks, "Upstairs where?" "The room that was being renovated, th-the one that caught on fire. I mean, it's against the rules, but... we've all done it." "Right." "I mean, why else work in a high-class place like this, right?" "Yeah." I look at the two for a second as I see someone trying to get Denises attention as I say, "I think someone's trying to flag you down." "Oh." She leaves as Booth says, "Looks like it's possible that Lisa went upstairs for a little quikie and, uh... wandered into a nightmare."
I chuckle, "Ranger I think she was trying to get you upstairs too. But I don't think Cam would like that." "Cam? Why would Cam not like that?" "Aren't you two together?" "No... Why would you say that?" "Because the last case you guys worked without me, I happened to be fixing some ventilation that day and then I saw something that I wasn't meant to see... Don't worry I made sure to close my eyes and crawl away." "You saw? Have you told anyone else?!" "No! I wouldn't do that Ranger. That is your business, not mine. I just wanted to let you know that I saw, but my lips are sealed about it." "All right, I believe you." We then hear Denise again and she comes toward us, "Hey. That's the guy that Lisa was with." We turn around and see the guy walking towards the bar as I nod, "Yes, he looks like he could be six feet tall." Booth nods, "What do you say we go pay him a little visit." "All right."
I walked up to the guy first as I lean on the bar as Booth was behind me, "Excuse me. Hello, sorry to bother you, but could we ask you a few questions?" He looks at me up and down and then he sees Booth as he says, "Oh, well, lose your friend, and maybe." I looked at Booth and back at him, "Oh, sorry I should be more specific. I meant could we ask you questions regarding about Lisa Winokur." The guy turns around and tries to run for it as Booth grabs him and flips him over on the ground. Booth was about to arrest him as I see someone coming from the side of him and was taking out a gun. I quickly went over to them as the man had just pointed his gun at Booth. I quickly disarmed the man quickly and unloaded his gun as Booth points he gun at him and I take out mine and point it to the suspect on the ground.
The suspect then says, "My name is Antonio Ramos. Call the Colombian embassy. I have diplomatic immunity." Booth and I looked at each other as we both sigh and he take out his phone and calls to make sure what he was saying is true.
