"I'm only going for the day Benny" She sighed putting her coat on.
"Why can't we drop her off at your mum's?"
"Because we can't take her to my mum's everytime I leave the house, you need to learn to look after her on your own"
"But she's a little angel with you and when you leave her with me she's a little shit!" I complained.
"Only because you let her get what she wants and no swearing Benny"
"Please don't leave me with her" I got on my knees pleading " please!"
"Benny, get off the floor"
"But baby!"
"No! You're going to have a nice day with her"
I wrapped my arms around her waist in an iron grip. She squirmed to get out of my grasp but I would let go.
"Benny! Let go!" She wriggled.
"No, you're not leaving me"
"Benny! I'm banning you from bedroom privileges"
I sighed letting go of her and pouting.
"That's not going to work, now look after her, I'll be back for tea"
She left me alone in the apartment to fend for myself. So I sat down at my chess board to keep myself distracted, when I heard the screaming.
I got up and went to Harriet's cot, picking her up.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
She didn't answer, she just kept screaming.
"What? I don't know!"
"Mummy!" She cried.
"Mummy isn't here it's just me"
"Banky!"
I grabbed her little white blanket handing it to her, which she took, snuggling into it.
How am I supposed to play chess now? Taking her towards my table, I sat her down on her little play mat while I went back to my chess board. Everything was going fine until she started crying at my feet.
"What now?"I asked picking her up and sitting her on my lap.
"Buba!" She said, knocking all my peices off the board.
"Hey! Harriet! No! Bad girl!"
She started crying again, quivering her little lip.
"Aww no I'm sorry" I hugged her " I didn't mean to yell at you"
"Bocks!" She said.
"Ok" I put her back down on her play mat and gave her, her building blocks.
She started playing happily so I went back to my board, having to set it up all over again. I managed to get some work done while she played, until she started pulling at my shirt.
"Dada! Dada!"
"Yes Harriet?"
I picked her up and plopped her on my lap. She sat on played with her blocks on my lap for a little while until she dropped them and reached up to my head to grab a fistfull of hair.
"OWW!" I yelped " NO!"
When managed to release her little death grip, she sat starting to cry again.
"Oh no, what's wrong" I bounced her on my knee "are you hungry?"
"Mink?" She asked.
"Ok, ok"
I stood up, resting her on my hip and going over to the fridge. Lucky for me, Y/n had made a few bottles ready, so I heated on up.I sat back down in my chair, feeding her with one hand and trying to play chess with the other. She guzzled the whole bottle down then went back down to play, leaving me to play in peace for a little while.
"Dada?" She giggled "Dada!Dada!"
"What darling?"
"Boo"
"I can't play boo with you right now I'm working"
"Boo! Boo! Boo!"
"Darling no, not right now"
"Booooooo!"
"Nooooooo"
She started crying again, more like squealing than crying to be honest. Then picked up one of her building blocks and throwing it at me, hitting me on the head.
"Ow! Fuck!" I yelled.
She started giggling and picked up another one to do it again. But I quickly took it from her before she could throw it.
"Fuck!" She giggled.
"Oh shit!" I groaned " Don't say that!"
"Shit! She copied.
"No! Don't say that either! Your mother will kill me if she hears you say that"
"Mummy?"
"Yeah, you mummy will kill me"
"Mummy!"
"Yes"
"Mummy!" She cried.
"Mummy isn't here" I picked her up, bouncing her lightly.
She kept crying for mummy, so I grabbed the buggy and shoved her in it, taking her outside for a walk. She seemed pretty happy, looking around and shaking her little rattle, pointing out the things she spotted.
"Tee!" She pointed.
"Yes,Tree" I said.
"Burd!"
"Bird"
"Doggy!" She said.
"Dog"
"Hawwy!" She giggled.
"Harry- Wait what?"
"Hawwy!"
I saw Harry walking in our direction.
"Oh hey Benny" He smiled.
"Hey Harry, what are you doing in New York?" I asked.
"Me and Beth are staying a while, Y/n's with Beth right now didn't she tell you?"
"Well, I know she went somewhere but she didn't tell me where"
"Ah, hey Harriet" He waved to her.
"Hawwy!" She giggled.
"I hope to god they come back soon" I sighed "She's a nightmare"
"She can't be that bad"
"She's driven me crazy all morning"
"She- wait Benny where is she?" He asked.
"In her bugg-"
The buggy was empty.
"Fuck! I've lost her!" I screamed.
"Uhhhh"
"She's fucking escaped! Oh my God Harry you have to help me find her" I panicked.
"Ok, ok"
"Y/n will kill me. What if someone kidnaps her?!"
"Benny, calm down, we'll find her. She can only crawl, she couldn't have gone far"
We searched around for her but she was nowhere to be found. Every second that she was missing I got more and more panicked. Think Benny! Where would she go?
"Benny!"Harry said " Come here!"
I ran over to where he was and he held up her little white blanket.
"She must have come this way" He said.
We looked around, calling her name as we went. She was one sneaky little thing. Eventually, I found her sitting playing with a flower.
"Harriet!" I ran over.
"Dada!" She put her arms up "Fowa!"
I quickly scooped her up so she couldn't run away again.
"God you bloody scared me!"
"Hawwy!" She waved.
"Hey Harriet"
"Dada! Banky!" She grabbed at it.
I gave her, her blanket and buckled her back into her buggy, making sure the straps were extra tight so she couldn't escape again.
"Ok, Harry, I better get her home before she makes a run for it again" I told him.
"Good idea, I'll see you later mate"
I took her home and took her out of her buggy, plopping her on the floor.
"Harriet, I think your nappy needs changing" I picked her up again.
"Weee!" She wiggled her legs.
"Yep"
Lying her down on the changing mat, I took her nappy off and got a new one to put on. Exept she wouldn't make it that easy for me, she kicked, wriggled and squirmed.
"Harriet! Just let me put this on and then you can play"
"Naaaaa!" She screamed.
"Harriet!"
After the struggle, I finally got her nappy on and set her down to play while I played some chess.
She sat happy playing for ages, the most quiet I had all day.
"I'm home" Y/n came into the apartment.
"Mummy!" She crawled over to her.
"Hiya Harriet" Y/n picked her up.
"aww she's getting so big already" Beth cooed.
"Beth!" She giggled putting her hand on her nose.
"Awww!"
"Oh wow, now your a little angel when Mummy and auntie Beth come home" I groaned.
"What do you mean? Where you not a good girl for daddy?" Y/n asked her.
"Buba!" Harriet giggled "Dada!"
"It's been hell" I groaned.
"But look at her" Beth said " She's so precious and cute!"
"She wasn't half an hour ago"
"Well, I should go and see Harry" Beth said.
She gave Y/n a hug and tapped Harriet on the nose before leaving.
"So what have you done all day?" Y/n asked.
"Uhhhhhh, um played?"
"Played what?"
"Building blocks"
"Fowa!" She giggled.
"Flower?" Y/n looked confused.
"Yeah, um, she found a flower"
"Where?"
"At the park"
"Oh so you went out?" She put Harriet down and wandered into the bedroom to get changed.
"Yeah"
"Hawwy!" She giggled.
"You bumped into Harry?"
"Yes"
"What did you do then?" Y/n asked.
Harriet just giggled and I give her a look. She put her hand over her mouth to say she won't tell. I gave her a little smiled and whispered "good girl"
"Walked, just walked" I told Y/n.
I felt relieved that Harriet didn't snitch, she had quite the little mouth on her. She never said much, usually just words, but those words could tell a lot.
"Well, it seems like you had a good day then" She came out of the room " I told you it would be fine"
"Fuck!" She giggled.
"BENNY WATTS!"
"Oh shit" I stood back " Uh it was an accident, she threw a block at me and I may have-"
"I told you about that"
"I know, I'm sorry"
"Harriet, don't say that word" she told her.
She picked her up and rocked her, putting her to sleep. She put Harriet in her cot and went back to the kitchen to make a cup of tea.
I went up to her from behind and wrapped my arms around her.
"I want another one" I said.
"You have her"
"But I want another one, a boy"
"A boy?"
"Yeah"
I pressed into her more, from behind.
"I'll think about it" She said.
"What about now?"
"Not now"
"Then just sex? Please"
"Fine, but if you wake her, your in even more trouble"
"Thank you baby" I pulled her towards the bedroom.
