Minho's pov:
I left the maproom, having just talked out our finds from the maze with Thomas. Alby was walking across the glade so I took the opportunity to catch him.
"Alby!" I ran up to him " how are the other runners?"
"Still sick Minho, Jeff says they're gonna be bed bound for at least another four days"
"I need more runners, we found something today and I want to check it out but I need more people to do it"
"How many?"
"At least five, so three more?"
"Alright" He nodded " I'll call a meeting"
I sat at the front, overlooking the gladers who were sitting waiting to see what was going on.
"Ok, so as you all know, there is a bug going around the glade and most of our runners are ill with it" Alby explained " So we need some temporary runners, is anyone up for it? We need at least three"
Y/n, are only girl, was the only one who raised her hand.
"Anyone else?" Alby asked.
Frypan and Zart raised their hands.
"Alright then-"
"Stop" Newt said " Y/n's not going"
"What?" She asked.
"She's not going in there it's to dangerous, they can work with two"
"Newt but-"
"No"
Everything went silent, so quiet I could practically hear the crickets chirping from outside.
"Ok, fine, Fry and Zart you start tomorow, everyone else go back to your usual work"
"What!" She said.
The gladers all started leaving the homestead to head to bed. I spotted Y/n running out after Newt, so I grabbed Thomas by the neck of his shirt and pulled him out with me.
"Minh-"
I clamped my hand over his mouth and hushed him as we peaked over the corner to listen.
"Newt what the hell!" Y/n complained "I could have helped why did you do that?"
"It's too dangerous" he told her.
"Why? Because I'm a girl?"
"No- uh- look you don't understand what it's like in there, I don't want you to get hurt"
She sighed and folded her arms.
"Now get some rest"
They both walked in the directions of their huts, leaving me and Thomas the only ones still out in the glade.
"We have to get them together" I said more to myself than Thomas.
"Uh why?"
"Did you even pay attention to what just happened" I turned to him " He didn't want her to go into the maze because he cares about her"
"Oh, so- how exactly do we get them together?" Thomas asked.
"Here I'll show you"
I grabbed his shirt again, yanking him in the direction of the kitchen and dragging him in. Grabbing an egg, I showed it to him.
"What's that?"
"An egg"
"Yeah I know that" He said.
"Look, this is Newt" I explained putting the egg on the table " To get Newt and Y/n together we have to get one of them to admit their feelings. Y/n is a tough nut to crack, she won't admit her feelings to anyone and she's extremely good at hiding them. Newt however, just needs a little push-"
I pushed the egg off the table so it fell to the floor, cracking and splattering on the floor.
"And he'll crack"
"Sooooo- Why do we need to break Newt? Wouldn't he die?"
"No Thomas!" I groaned " That was a metaphor, We need to get Newt to admit his feelings for her"
"Ohhhh, so why don't we just ask him if he likes her?"
"He'd lie about it, plus, for this to work we need him to admit he's feelings when she's there"
"How do we do that then?"
"Truth or dare"
"And why are we doing this?"
"Because he's our best mate, and we're gonna help him"
I sat next to Thomas at the bonfire, holding my glass of moonshine. Newt and Y/n were sitting opposite us, giggling and talking. They had been drinking quite a lot so it would make our job easier.
"Who's up for a game of truth or dare?"I asked.
"I'm in!" Gally shouted running over.
A few others joined circling around.
"Thomas, you start" I nudged him.
"Who do I-"
"Not them"
"Ok- um Gally truth or dare?" He asked.
"Dare"
"I dare you to spill your drink on Alby"
We all watched as Gally stumbled over to Alby, pretending to be drunk and spilled his drink all over his shirt.
"That was a good one" I laughed " Ok um Newt, truth or dare?"
Depending on what he chose would effect how we would get him to admit his feelings. If he chose truth, we would have to get him to outright admit it to her face, if he chose dare, we would have to make him show it through an act.
"Uh, truth I guess" He sipped his drink.
"Who do you secretly have feelings for, but won't admit it"
He almost choked on his drink but stopped himself. Glancing at her from the corner of his eye before looking down at the ground.
"No one"
Y/n shifted. I noticed her mood change. Shit! That wasn't supposed to happen! We're supposed to be getting them together not driving them apart!
"Really, because remember Newt it's called truth for a reason?" I asked.
"Yeah" he shrugged.
This was harder than I thought, he was putting it off. Well, I would just have to wait until he was picked again.
"Hey Y/n" Gally said " truth or dare"
"Uh dare" She said.
"I dare you, to do seven minutes with one of the gladers"
She looked around at everyone, except Newt.
"Actually, I was thinking of heading to bed now, but I'll see you guys tomorrow"
She hurried off towards her hut.
A lot of people shrugged and started leaving too. But before Newt could leave, I nudged Thomas and we went over sitting either side of him, pushing his shoulders down so he sat back down.
"Uh hi, what do you want?"He asked.
"You see Newt, we don't believe you were telling the truth earlier" I told him.
"Yeah, you definitely weren't telling the truth" Thomas said.
"That's what I just said"
"Uh yeah?"
"Never mind, look, we just want to know the truth, we won't tell anyone"
"Uh I was telling the truth" He said " We're in a maze full if boys Minho"
"Not all boys"
"Wha- NO! She's my freind, I don't- like her-like that"
"Yeah, we think you do" Thomas said.
"I do not!"
"Just admit it, you like her"
"I'm not admitting to anything"
He got upto leave but I grabbed him my his shirt.
"Hey!" He complained.
Thomas grabbed one arm and I grabbed the other, dragging him through the glade while he struggled to get lose.
"You do realise I could get you put in the slammer for this!" He warned.
"We know"
We dragged him all the way to Y/n's hut, standing him infront of the door.
"Oh no!no!no!no!no!" He squirmed.
I knocked on the door and stood him there.
"I hate you guys" He sighed.
"Love you too!" We ran off.
Newt pov:
I was about to leave when the door opened and Y/n stood there.
"Uhhhh hi"
"Hi"
I stood there as if waiting for something to happen. I had no idea what to say!
"Newt?" She asked " is there something you wanted?"
"Uh I no-no"
"Then why did you knock on my door?"
"I-um knocked by accident"
"By accident?"
"Yeah, anyway I gotta go"
I walked off sheepishly. Minho ams Thomas came running out the bushes.
"What was that?" Minho asked " That was terrible!"
"I don't know! What was I supposed to do I wasn't prepared!"
"Ughhh Newt" Thomas groaned.
"Ok, we're trying this again tomorow morning" Minho ordered.
I went back to my hut( which conveniently was right next to hers)and slipped out of my clothes, leaving me in only my boxers to sleep. Minho and Thomas were right, I did like her, a lot. But I would never be able to tell her. I settled down and tried to go to sleep when I hear some little sniffleing sounds. Like someone was crying.
I hopped out of bed and walked out of my hut. Opening her door quietly to see her lying in her bed fast asleep, crying lightly. I went over to her and she sat up straight, breathing heavily and panicking.
"Hey, hey calm down it's ok" I sat next to her.
"Newt?"
"You were just having a nightmare, your alright, your safe"
"Oh"
I gave her a weak smile and was about to leave when she grabbed my wrist.
"Please don't go"
"Uh ok"
I got into bed next to her, and she cuddled into my chest, falling asleep almost instantly. I couldn't help but smile, this was the closest I had ever been to her.
Minho pov:
I walked with Thomas towards Newts hut, explaining.
"Ok so phase two, we get them to talk over breakfast, obviously we have our run so we need to be quick about it"
I opened Newts door, but his hut and bed was empty.
"What?" I asked myself in confusion "ok fine, we'll start with Y/n first then"
I opened Y/n's hut door to find Newt and Y/n cuddling fast asleep.
"HOLY KLUNK!" I yelled.
"Shhhhh!" Newt hushed " you'll wake her up"
"Oh sorry, we'll leave you and your girlfriend alone then" Thomas sniggered.
"Get out!" He ordered.
"Ok!ok! Leaving!"
