Light chatter as people worked hummed around the glade. The sky was clear of clouds, and endless ocean of blue. It was a peaceful day.
I took a sharp Intake of air before slowly releasing the air from my lungs. The sun was blazing down from above and heating the atmosphere. It wasn't common for a hot day in the glade, it usually was and hardly ever rained.
"Bestie who?" I heard Teresa shout.
I turned around to see her, standing with her hands on her hips.
"Oh hello stranger" I smirked.
"So how's things going on over here?" She asked.
"Ok I guess, kind of boring, no patients today"
"How's everything with you and Newt , if you know what I mean" She shoved me elbow.
"Come on Teresa, you don't need to know every single detail of our sex lives, talking of boyfriends, How's Thomas?"
"Well..."
All of a sudden, the greenie alarm erupted, bellowing through the air. I gazed at Teresa who looked at me with the same confused expression. We both ran over to the box along with a number of other gladers. I spotted Newt amongst the crowd, grabbing Teresa's hand to pull her with me.
"Newt why is the box coming back up?" I asked.
"I don't know it's weird, it shouldn't be"
When the box stopped, he opened the doors and jumped inside.
"Newt what is it?" Alby asked.
"It's- it's another girl" He shouted back up.
The commotion of boys started again, just like they had with me and Teresa, itching to get a glance at her. Considering both me and Teresa were taken by Thomas and Newt, the boys all wanted to get to her.
"Everybody calm down!" Alby shouted " give her some space"
Newt brought her out and I got a good look at her. She was unbelievably gorgeous. Golden locks of blonde hair, falling in waves a little past her shoulders. Big, bright blue eyes sparkling under the sunlight. Probably around sixteen or seventeen. She looked a little nervous, I mean I'm not surprised, I was.
"Everyone go back to work" Alby ordered.
The boys huffed and groaned before reluctantly going back to their work, still sneaking some glances of her when they could.
"Y/n, Teresa I think we should leave her with you, you know, she might feel more comfortable" Alby said.
"Sure" Teresa said.
Alby and Newt left us alone with the girl and we stood silent. Unsure how to explain to her what was going on.
"Uh hi" I said.
"Why don't I remember anything?" She asked.
"None of us do, only our names" Teresa told her " we all came up the box like you"
"I'm Y/n and that's Teresa"
" I think my name is... Sage" She said.
"Oh ok well hi Sage"
"Just to make you aware" Teresa said " Me and Thomas are kind of dating, and Y/n and Newt are dating, so if you want to go for anyone, they are off limits"
"Oh ok" She nodded.
We showed her around the glade and explained as much as we knew to her. She seemed like a pretty nice girl, she was a bit shy at first but quickly warmed up to us. Avoiding majority of the boys though, She would only really talk to us which made sense because she probably felt more comfortable around the girls.
She hung out with us for the whole of the bonfire night and she seemed really nice. Later on, I went back to my and Newt's hut to settle down for bed. Changing out of my usual clothes into what I used for my pajamas. Which was really just a T-shirt.
"Hey" Newt climbed in next to me " how was the greenie?"
"She's fine, took it better than I thought she would"
"Well, that's good. What do you think of having another girl around?"
"I mean I'm not fussed about it, what do you think?"
"What do you mean?"
"I- I don't know- She's pretty..."
"What what?" He asked shocked " Y/n just because there is another girl doesn't mean I'm going leave you, I love you ok"
He kissed my shoulder and caressed my waist.
"I know, I'm just, paranoid"
"You have no reason to be"
"I love you"
"I love you too, now get some sleep"
When I woke up I wa being showered with kisses.
"Newt!" I giggled " stop!"
"Why should I?"
"I have to get to work"
"Oh no Baby please don't, stay here"
"Newt, I have to and so do you"
I got out of bed getting myself dressed while Newt watched me.
"I could tell Alby you're sick?"
"Newt, get to work"
The plants had been failing so I was stressing out a lot having to try and savior what we could and dealing with anything that had died. However, things got a lot worse when I heard shouting from across the glade.
"What the hell is going on?" Zart asked me.
"No idea, what's happening?"
Teresa came marching across the glade towards me, looking furious. Minho, Sage and a number of other gladers came gathering around behind her to see what the commotion was.
"Are you kidding me Y/n!" Teresa shouted getting right up to my face " My best friend!really?"
"What? Teresa what's going on?" I asked.
"You know what you did!"
"No, I don't what are you talking about?"
"OH DON'T PLAY DUMB WITH ME!"
I felt Newt's presence next to me, grabbing my waist protectively.
"Teresa calm down she clearly doesn't know what you're saying" he defended me.
"Yes she does!" She spat " you fucking slept with Thomas!"
Everything went silent for a minute.
"What!" I said in shock " Teresa I didn't did that I wouldn't do that!"
"Oh really?" She threw a black bra at me, clearly, mine because of the size " This was in his bed along with other things that belong to you! You sly bitch you've been sneaking around with him behind my back you're supposed to be my best friend cor crying our loud!"
"I didn't I swear I didn't do that, ask Thomas!"
"That's the problem" Minho joined in " we can't find him anywhere, he's missing"
Teresa started crying, swiping the tears away with her hand.
"I can't do this" She ran off in the opposite direction.
"Teresa! TERESA PLEASE JUST LISTEN TO ME!"
I turned around to see Newt as white as ghost.
"Newt I didn't you can't believe that..."
"What were your clothes doing in his bed then Y/n? Explain that to me because I bloody well hope this isn't true"
"It's not true I..."
"I don't know what I can believe anymore" he shook his head.
He walked away from me and I was left alone. Having just lost my best friend and my boyfriend.
I had nothing else to do, I couldn't go back to my hit because Newt was in there, I couldn't go and bunk in with Teresa either, so I had only one place left to go.
I knocked on Sages door, she answered it almost immediately.
"Hey Sage I know we haven't known eachother very long but, I can't stay I'm my hut tonight, so I was wondering if you would let me stay with you?" I asked.
"Yeah, of course" She let me in.
I was sitting on her bed with her talking about what had happened earlier.
"No one believes me, not even Newt"
"I'm so sorry Y/n, maybe you should just sleep it off, you know, get some rest"
"Yeah, that's probably a god idea, thank you for letting me stay Sage"
"What can I say? Us girls have to help eachother out right?"
I fell asleep quickly, because I just wanted to get rid of the reacurring thoughts that popped in my head.
I woke up to the sunlight blazing into my eyes. Struggling to open them, rubbing them. Weirdly, I heard talking? Did someone could to see me or something? I opened my eyes and sat up, but I wasn't in Sage's bed anymore, I was in Minho's! I saw Newt standing above me looking both sad and angry.
"What?" I questioned myself.
"First Thomas, Now Minho?" Newt asked in an angry tone.
"What? Newt I honestly have no idea how I got here" I insisted.
"Are you kidding me?What did I do?" He asked "What did I do to have you go around sleeping around with other gladers, Y/n what the fuck!"
"I didn't- I swear- I slept in Sage's room last night I don't even know where Minho is!"
"Neither does anyone else, he's missing, just like Thomas"
"I have nothing to do with this"
"I can't trust your word anymore" he shook his head " You're seriously telling me you haven't been sleeping with other guys when you're lying half naked in Minho's bed!"
I looked down realising I was lacking clothes. Struck with confusion, I rubbed my temples. I definitely went to bed fully clothed.
"Newt" I said sadly " Why don't you believe me?"
He didn't answer, just walking off. For the next few weeks, No one talked to me. There was no sign of Thomas and Minho at all and even a couple more gladers that I didn't know very well disappeared.
I sat alone in the deadheads, I always came here when I was lonely or sad. It was somewhere I was able to get a little privacy. I heard someone walking, twigs snapping, so I turned to see who it was.
Newt stood about a metre away from me. Arms folded, no hint of emotion in his facial expression.
"Meeting in the council hall, now" He said marching off.
As soon as I entered, everyone went silent and all eyes where on me. I lowered my head and tried not to draw much attention to myself.
"Y/n take a seat please" Alby instructed calmly.
I sat down, waiting to see what was going to happen.
"Ok, so as we know two gladers have went missing over the past two days and, Y/n, was evident to be the last person with them" Alby said " Y/n? Do you have anything to say?"
I twiddled my thumbs in anxiety, not knowing what to say that would make them believe me.
"I honestly have no idea what hapoend to them and I never did anything with them"
"Newt?" Alby asked.
He sighed, looking down at the floor, not making eye contact with anyone.
"I want to believe her, but I can't... not with all the evidence there is against her... and this morning..."
"Ok... we need to decide what to do with her" Alby said.
"Do with me?"
"For all we know, Minho and Thomas could be dead" Alby said.
"You don't know that, and why would I do that?"
"Look, Y/n, we've searched the whole glade, no trace of them, the only place they could be is in the maze, and we trust Minho being the keeper of the runners, to find his way around the maze, so... it's most likely they haven't made it. You were the last one to see them and the only suspect"
"But..."
"Raise your hand for the following punishments, Two weeks in the pit"
Several people raised their hands, Chuck, Fry, Ben, Gally, Winston, Jeff, Zart and Clint.
"And banishment?" Alby said struggling to form the words.
Majority of the others raised their hands, they outvoted the others. Newt however, didn't vote at all.
"Well... banishment.... at sundown" Alby said.
"What?" I said quietly " You're, just going to banish me?"
"I'm sorry Y/n, you broke our rule, never harm another glader"
"But I didn't..."
"Pit, Gally take her please"
Gally walked me to the slammer, locking me in. He apologised to me, I know he voted against it but, it wasn't his fault.
The slammer was uncomfortable and cold. It was impossible to sleep in it. Not only that, but the thought of me going to die soon was making me feel sick. Eventually, I don't know how, I managed to fall asleep.
"Hey Y/n!" I heard.
I woke up the next morning but had nothing to do. The whole day I spent in the slammer was tedious.
As the hours went by I sat basically doing nothing. When it started getting later, Chuck arrived at the bars, holding a glass of water and some food. He handed me them and I accepted gratefully, wolfing it down.
"I'm sorry" He said.
"It isn't your fault, I just can't believe they would actually vote to banish me"
"Me neither, I've got to go"
"Bye Chuck"
"I'll be around"
"No, I mean, bye"
He looked down sadly, knowing what I ment.
"Bye Y/n, and thank you"
"For what?" I asked.
"Being, the mother I could never have"
I almost broke down in tears, the fact that Chuck saw me like that broke my heart. We always spent a lot of time together around the glad teams became close, but I never considered that he thought of me like that. It was sad, because now he was going to lose the only person he looked up to as a parent figure.
"Thank you chuck"
He left, probably not wanting to watch the banishing. He never did watch them, he was only young, about 12 or 13. It must be too much for him.
Not long after, Gally came back unlocking the door and ushering me out. Walking me towards the maze doors.
"Y/n look..."
"I know" I said.
When we got to the doors, everyone was there, holding their sticks in hand.
"No need for them Alby" I told him " I'll go willingly"
I saw Newt at the crowed, I'm sure he was trying to hide hide it but I could see the glistening in his eyes.
The doors were about to close in about a minute time, and I started walking closer to the entrance.
"STOP!" Someone shouted.
Newt emerged from the crowd, walking towards me and grabbing my arm, pushing me behind him.
"I can't let you do this"
"Newt, don't make this any worse than it already is" Alby said.
"No" he said firmly " look, I've been thinking about it all night and you can't tell me you actually think she would do something like this? She's the kindest person I know and I refuse to believe she had anything for do with murdering anyone"
"Newt, move" Alby ordered.
"No!" He refused " You want to banish her, you banish me too!"
"WAIT!" I shouted " Does anyone else hear that?"
Everyone stopped and listened. Hearing the banding noise that seemed to be coming from the direction of the deadheads.
"Hold on, yeah I do" Alby said.
"What is it?"
"Let's go find out" Alby said.
"It's probably just beetle blades" Sage said " no need to check it out"
"Sage, beetle blades definitely don't make that kind of noise" I told her.
"I'm sure it's nothing" She insisted.
I looked at her, why was she trying to put us off?
Alby told the rest of the gladers to stay while me, him, Newt and Gally went to find the source of the noise. A little into the deadheads, we went into the storage shed.
"What the hell?" Newt said.
"Wait what's that?" Gally asked.
He pointed to the floor and it seemed to be a lose floorboard. Alby, pulled the lose boards back to reveal a set of stairs. We slowly went down them into a dark room that we had no idea existed.
There, was Thomas, Minho and the few gladers that had went missing weeks ago.
Newt rushed forwards, removing the tape from Thomas's mouth.
"Tommy, who did this to you"
Thomas released a deep breath before stating the name of the culprit.
"Sage"
We, United the gladers then returned to the glade. Sage looked extremely nervous and alarmed. She was banished after admitting being a spy for the creators, and framing me for the kidnapping.
I was just getting a water from the kitchen when Teresa came up to me.
"Y/n?" I saw Teresa " I'm sorry for accusing you, can we..."
"Yes" I hugged her " I missed you!"
"I missed you too"
For the rest of the day people came up to me apologising, and I forgave them. It had been such a long day and I was exhausted, so I sat by the bonfire with a glass of moonshine.
"Y/n?"
I looked up to see Newt, he sat down next to me.
"I'm sorry" He said " I should have trusted you"
"It's ok"
"No it's not, I should have believed toh when you said- I- I'm such an idiot I almost got you banished you could died..."
I stopped him by pulling him in for a slow long kiss. It felt nice after being away from him for so long.
"It's ok Newt, I forgive you"
"I'll never doubt you again" He said " I can't believe I almost lost you, I live you so much"
"I know, I love you too"
