A/n: Not set in the maze. Idk what actual prisons are like I kind of just made it up so...
I wriggled in my bed, trying to get comfortable but it wasn't the easiest. Prison beds weren't exactly the most comfortable, but I guess it was better than sleeping on the floor. I looked up at the cracked ceiling above, imagining it was a big, bright blue sky. The yellow sun beaming down and candy floss clouds flouting around in different shapes.
"Up!"
The officer went around unlocking all of our rooms.
Ok, so your stereotypical interpretation of prison is probably a little wrong. Well, it sort of depends on how bad your sentence was. The less bad it is the more lenient they are with you. People with a really long time have it worse, they sleep in literal prison cells. My room, was fairly decent. It was smallish, with cold concrete walls and floors. I had a bed, a toilet, a sink, a mirror, a set of draws and a bedside table. It kind of just looked like a bedroom with a toilet in the corner. There weren't bars, there was just a door with the upper half having a big window. I wasn't able to leave as it was locked from the outside.
I walked along with the other women to breakfast. Pilling into the cafeteria and lining up. I grabbed a tray and walked along to see what was on the menu for today. The lady put a glass of water, bacon sandwich and an apple on my tray. I walked away to go and sit down. My only friend, Lucy, was sat down already so I went over to sit next to her.
Basically, how it works here, is they separate the men and women. But it doesn't matter how long your sentenced for, your in the same place as everyone else. All the woman in one area and all the men in the other.
"I swear they don't cook this bacon properly" She said poking her sandwitch.
"Probably not" I shrugged.
"I got food poisoning last time, I'm not sure I want to eat it"
"Well, you only have what? Two more years then you're out?"
"Yeah"
"Think of yourself lucky, I'll have to spend another year in here without you"
"Oh don't say it like that it's not that I want to leave you own your own" She pouted.
"I know" I sighed " it just sucks, you're my only friend here. It sucks that I'm even here in the first place I mean I've missed out on a lot of my teenage hood"
"But when you get out you'll be an adult and get to do whatever you want"
"I guess"
"Oh shit look! Boys!" She pointed.
Through the window we could see the boys walking in a unison line, through the yard. We see the boys every so often, but they stay in the opposite end of the prison to keep us separated.
"That one is fit!" She said.
"Please! He's probably like twenty five" I scoffed.
"He's still fit tho"
"Lucy you're seventeen" I reminded her.
"Yeah, eight years isn't that bad"
"Keep telling yourself that"
One of the officers walked into the hall and everyone went silent, turning to look.
"Alright ladies" He spoke " I know this usually doesn't happen, but there has been a little bit of an issue in the male cafeteria, so they will be eating here with you until further notice. I suggest that you don't start any trouble because they're will be consequences for those who start riots"
The boys started walking in towards the cantine, lining up to get their food.
"Holy shit!" Lucy jumped in her chair " we never get to be this close to the boys!"
"Yeah, wow, cool" I Shrugged.
"Oh come on Y/n you can't tell me your not even a little bit excited"
"Not really no, they're just boys?"
"We could find some cute ones our age" She jumped excitedly " I haven't talked to a boy for a year"
"Yeah well, best pray a cute pair of dudes come and sit down infront of us and chat us up because trust me Lucy that ain't gonna happen!"
Just as I finished, two boys sat down opposite us with their trays. Lucy looked at me with the look and I rolled my eyes. Damn I must have jinxed it!
Being honest, they weren't completely hideous. But I found it kind of weird that they just sat down without asking. One of them was quite muscularly built, with broad shoulders. His hair was combed and brown, his eyes almost the same shade as his hair. The other was more skinny, but his arms were surprisingly muscley for his lanky build. His hair was blonde and wavy in some places, curlier in others. His eyes were a warm chocolatey brown.
"Excuse me?" I asked "you didn't even ask if you could sit down"
"All the other tables are full" The brown haired one said " there is a lot more of us now since we're sharing since cafeteria"
"Soooo" Lucy said " what's your names"
I knew Lucy would flirt, I mean I'm not surprised, all she talks about it getting a cute boy.
"I'm Thomas" The brown haired one said " And that's Newt"
"I'm Lucy and that's Y/n"
"So how old are you two?" Newt asked .
"Seventeen" we both said.
The two boys looked at eachother then smirked.
"We're both the same age" Thomas laughed.
"What! That's so weird!" Lucy said.
"Maybe it was fate" Thomas winked at her.
"Uhhhh gross" I complained " might as well get it over with and just fuck now"
Newt burst out laughing but Thomas and Lucy looked embarrassed.
"How long you guys got?" Newt asked.
"I have three more years, Lucy has two" I answered.
"Thomas has Two, and I have three"
"This is just getting stranger the more we talk" I said.
"What did you do?"he asked " what's a girl like you doing in here?"
"A girl like me?"
"You seem to innocent to have done something bad enough to be in here"
"Innocent? Boy do you have a lot to learn here" I scoffed.
"What did you do?" Thomas asked.
"Well, Lucy stabbed a guy fourteen times, he was trying to take advantage of her but the court still give her a few years in this shit hole" I told them.
"And you?" Newt asked.
"Supposedly helped someone who murdered someone, try to get way with it, but I never knew he murdered anyone"
"Didn't you tell them?"
" yeah, but the guy framed me and tried to put the blame on me so I would get punished to, and here I am" I shrugged " what about you?"
"You don't even want to know" He shook his head.
"Come on I told you"
"Well, Thomas and I both kind of helped, kill someone" he said.
"Isn't murder twelve years?" Lucy asked.
"Yes, but we victims ourselves, we were threatened to kill him or we would be killed so under the influence of older men, they lowered our sentence to four and three years"
"Wow that's a big decrease in years" I said.
"Yeah, we got very lucky" Thomas said.
Breakfast was over and we had to say our goodbyes to Thomas and Newt until lunch. We wouldn't be able to see eachother again until then, because our grounds are separated. Even if I didn't want to admit it, I did find Newt kind of cute.We went to the main yard to go chill for a while. We stood just talking about them. Lucy seemed really interested in Thomas, she wouldn't god damn shut up about him.
"Hey!"we heard.
We see Thomas and Newt at the fence. The fence that separated us.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"There isn't any rules against it" Newt shrugged "we're still on our side aren't we?"
"I guess"
"Y/n, it's your turn to go to the showers, I'd go now before they all get taken" Lucy said.
"Ok" I said " bye Newt"
I walked to the showers,it was the only place that wasn't completely separating boys and girls. You probably think that's a bit weird right? Well there is the boys showers and the girls showers, they are separate,but there isn't any fence or anything separating them, so I guess you could just walk in the opposite side if you wanted, if you have a key card.
Everyone has a key card to get into the showers and toilets e.c.t. So men or woman can't cross showers unless they have another man or womans key card.
I scanned my card and went into the showers with my towel and toiletries in hand. Switching on the shower I slipped off my clothes and went inside. It was nice feeling the hot water against ny skin. It relaxed me. I spent a lot of time in the shower, a lot longer than most people, so I was always the last one to leave. All the other women had gone, leaving me the last one left, still in the shower.
I heard a door open and close which made me a little suspicious. Maybe someone left their soap?
"Why hello love" I heard.
I turned around to See Newt with only a white towel around his waist.
I shrieked and grabbed my towel to cover myself up.
"Newt!" I yelled "how did you get in here?"
He held up a key card and I noticed it was mine.
"How did you get that?" I asked.
"I was in a gang for a little while" he shrugged " learnt some stuff"
"Well, you can't be in here"
"Oh but we're all alone" he smirked walking closer.
He leaned down, pressing gentle kissed on my neck. I moaned slightly at the touch, having not done anything since I've been here.
"Come on, just a little fun, I promise it won't take long?" He winked.
"Fine" I agreed " but stay quiet"
