Chapter Eighteen

Halos tulala lang si Amethyst sa loob ng sasakyan ni Dev. Hindi siya makapaniwala sa isiniwalat ng kanyang ina tungkol sa binata.

She remembered she saw a photo of her mom together with Mrs. Laveau, Dev's mother in his house. Alam niyang may koneksyon ang pamilya ng amo niya sa kanyang ina kung kaya't sa lalaki siya humingi ng tulong upang mahanap at makapagkita na sila.

But she didn't expect this huge revelation. That there was a deep connection between their family, between the two of them.

You are my dear, Devereaux's long-lost fiancee.

Her mom's voice echoed inside her head.

I'm his long-lost fiancee? Am I the one that Dartagnan was talking about?

Pagkausap niya sa sarili nang maalala ang sinabi sakanya ng kapatid ng amo.

Dart told her that Dev was once engaged to someone else who has been gone for too long. And the reason why he didn't agree to be engaged with Sarah is that he is still keeping his promise to that someone. And that someone is her.

"Are you okay?" Tanong sa kanya ng binata nang huminto na sila sa tapat ng kanyang apartment. "Kanina ka pa walang imik."

Naihatid na muna nila sa tinutuluyang hotel ang kanyang ina bago siya inihatid pauwi.

"This night was so overwhelming." Sagot niya habang napapatulala pa rin.

Hindi na muna niya kasi sinabi sa binata ang tungkol sa nalaman niya. Sinabihan din siya ng ina na makinig sa paliwanag ni Dev at sigurado namang may magandang rason ito.

"I just wanted to surprise you." Anito na hinawakan pa ang kanyang kamay.

Napatingin siya sa kamay nitong nakapatong sa kamay niya.

"When were you convinced that I was Amberleigh?" Seryosong tanong niya.

She saw him stiffened a bit.

"When you left to hide in Atlanta." Sagot nito pagkalipas ng ilang saglit. "I called your mom to check on her and she told me about the incident in the hotel. Doon ko napatunayan na ikaw nga ang anak ni Auntie Agnes."

"So you knew it already before you came to find me but you didn't even tell me about it."

"Hindi ko alam kung saan ako magsisimula. You were trying to run away. You were hiding from the people who was after you. I couldn't bring that up because you had so much on your plate. At ang sabi mo rin sakin ay natatakot ka na baka balikan ang mama mo kaya hindi ka pwedeng makitang kasama siya." Napa-buntong hininga pa muna ang binata. "That's why I sealed my mouth about the truth. I waited for the right time. I waited for everything to fall into place."

Hindi alam ni Taniesha kung tama ba ang naging rason ng binata ngunit di niya maitatanggi na mayroong punto ito.

"I-.... I-I only have some fragment memories of my past. I-I can't remember you." She was stuttering.

"Ofcourse you won't. You're just barely five when we met." Anito kaya't doon siya nag-angat ng tingin. "It was snowy that day before Christmas Eve. I thought it was just the four of us who will celebrate Christmas at that time but you and your parents came to our house to spend the holiday with us. And to spend your birthday too." At bahagya pang tumawa. "I couldn't take my eyes off of this little girl. I thought she was shy but after a few minutes, her giggles filled our home."
