chapter forty-eight

Start from the beginning

"You want me to gank a monster or torch a corpse, hey, let's light it up, right? But this? If we fix whatever this is, people are gonna start dropping dead. Good people." Dean says and Sam stands up.

"Look, I don't want them to die either, Dean, but there's a natural order." Sam says. Evie holds her arms up and Sam picks her up, holding her close to help with getting her warm.

"You're kidding, right?" Dean asks.

"What?" Sam asks.

"You don't see the irony in that? I mean, you and me, we're like the poster boys of the unnatural order. All we do is ditch death." Dean says.

"Yeah, but the normal rules don't really apply to us, do they?" Sam asks.

"We're no different than anybody else."

"I'm infected with demon blood. You've been to Hell. Look, I know you want to think of yourself as Joe the Plumber, Dean, but you're not. Neither am I. The most normal one right now is Evie and even then it's not like she's got the average life of any other 5 year old. The sooner you accept that, the better off you're gonna be."

"Joe the Plumber was a douche."

"You gonna help me finish this?" Sam asks and Dean stands up.

"Hey!" They hear and look to a man a few graves away, holding a flashlight. "What are you doing here?"

"Uh..." Sam glances at Dean. "Just take it easy."

"What the hell is this?" The man asks, walking closer, seeing the pentacle and candles and everything.

"Okay, this-this-this is not what it looks like." Dean says.

"Really? Cause it looks like devil worship." The man says.

"What? No! No, this is not devil worship. This-- this is-- this-- this is, uh-- I don't have a good answer." Dean gives up trying.

"We're leaving." Sam say.

"You're not going anywhere." The man states. "Ever again. Sam." The man looks at Dean, his eyes going white.

"Alastair." Dean glares as the demon's eyes go back to normal. Sam puts Evie down, making sure she stands behind him. Evie hugs his leg, peeking out at Alastair from behind Sam's leg.

"I though you got deep fried, extra crispy." Dean says.

"Nah. Just the pediatrician I was riding. His wife's still looking for him. It's hilarious. Anyway." Alastair says, looking at a fuming Sam. "No time to chat. Got a hot date with death." Alastair flings Dean away and he hits a gravestone, passing out.

"Dean!" Sam yells.

Alastair turns to Sam and decides to try to take him out first. He flicks his hand to fling him, but nothing happens and Sam smirks.

"You're stronger, Sam. You've been soloflexing with your little slut?" Alastair asks.

"You have no idea." Sam says. He flicks his hand sending Alastair flying into a tree. Sam uses his hand to exorcise him and Alastair leaves the man's body. Sam's hand drops.
