Going back to work on Monday after the best weekend of my life was particularly difficult

Going back to work on Monday after the best weekend of my life was particularly difficult. Luckily for me, I worked with the reason why the weekend had been so great.

Now that our small Kelex world knew about us, we didn't have to hide as much. It made things incredibly easier. After he'd driven me back home on Sunday evening, we'd agreed I'd come home with him on most nights the following week. On the chosen days, I would have a bag big enough to have a change of clothing in it, so he could take me to his place right away after work.

The routine that naturally settled itself felt normal and right. Spending all this time together brought us closer, and I dearly enjoyed the casual ease between us.

I had worked relentlessly to find him a gift for his birthday, and although I had a few ideas in mind, I wasn't sure any of them would work out on such short notice.

I'd insisted on cooking on Saturday evening and had asked what his favorite dish was, so I could cook it for him.

"I can't resist a good T-Bone with mac and cheese," had been his answer, which had made me suspicious.

"Are you saying this because you don't trust my cooking abilities?"

"I'm really not. It's simple but efficient, and I can never get tired of it. I used to eat this all the time when I came back to live in Seattle. What's yours?"

"Hard to pick just one, but I really love a good lasagna."

I'd tried to figure out if he was really telling me the truth, but ended up accepting that my man's favorite dish was this simple and down to earth. Also, there was no way I'd mess it up. He'd insisted that I gave him the list for the grocery shopping, so the woman in charge of filling his fridge could take care of everything, but I'd refused, insisting I wanted to be the one offering the meal to him.

My main idea for a gift, though, was out of my hands at this point. I'd done my research, sent out emails, and now, all I could do was wait and see. I highly doubted it would be ready for Saturday, but a girl could hope.

Since we had our Thursday off, because of Thanksgiving, we spent most of it together, after another night of inexhaustible passion. In the morning, we'd watched the second installment of The Lord of the Ring trilogy, spending over three and a half hours cuddling on his couch and eating the dumplings we'd ordered. The day passed in a blink, and eventually, we both needed to get ready for our respective dinners.

He looked dapper, as usual, and I looked like myself but at least trying. Once we were ready to go, he drove us to a fancy wine shop, where he was supposed to pick a few bottles for his dinner. Since I was here, I bought a couple of bottles, feeling guilty I hadn't taken the time to bake something for the incoming Friendsgiving. I had no idea what to pick, but an employee helped me out, advising me on some bottles that would work perfectly with turkey. Arriving at the register, I was shocked to see the prices of the wines Lex had picked, realizing more than usual our status difference. Lex then dropped me at my place on his way to Kevin and Michelle's, where Tammy was expecting me, with a delicious-smelling pecan pie she'd baked herself.
