I was still staring at our immaculate ceiling when I received the info about the restaurant. I decided to check it out, to gauge what sort of place it was, which would determine the amount of effort I'd have to make for my outfit.

Oh, the place was gorgeous. The interior design was sleek, with pastel colors, loads of plants, wood... It seemed made for refined women, and I could totally see why Michelle liked it so much. Kate would absolutely love it, too. As for me, it mostly meant I would have to wear a dress and nice shoes. To make up for my pain, and also find the motivation to get my ass up, I looked at their menu, and it had me practically drooling in no time. Damn, they had a full brunch option, with various dishes and a glass of mimosa. There even was a croissant in there. Okay, if I was going all the way to the other side of town, I deserved to reward myself with this.

I explained to Tamika something had come up, hoping she would be okay with the change of plans. She didn't even hide how happy she was that I'd go out on my own, without her pressuring me to. She was clearly worried about me. Shit, moving out suddenly would be such a dick move on my part. I definitely couldn't leave Seattle for San Jose so abruptly. And even if Hugh offered me some sweet, irresistible deal, I would find a way to stick around for a bit longer, not ready to let go of what I had here.

As soon as the second coat of lavender on my toes was done drying, I swiftly went to the bathroom for a quick shower. I tried on a few outfits, coming out of my room with them on to get Tammy's approval. In the end, we settled on a peacock green dress that reached right over my knees and 3/4 sleeves, a pair of flesh-colored tights, black ballet pumps, and a short cardigan the same blue as my dress but darker. It looked cute, showed I was trying to look decent, but wasn't overdressed.

I did my makeup easily, deciding to have my usual winged eyeliner, and just when I thought I was ready, Tammy insisted red lipstick would look great with what I was wearing. It might have been a bit much, but I didn't want to argue, especially since I would run late soon.

I transferred my things from my casual bag into a small leather backpack, which looked adorable and fancy enough to go with the rest of me. After one last check in the mirror, I went to stand in front of Tamika for her ultimate approval. She gave me two thumbs up, and I let out a reassured sigh.

I grabbed my keys from the bowl on the counter, my jacket hanging on the rack near the entrance, and exited the apartment, already regretting having to go outside.

The weather was incredible today, strangely warm for early November, but my jacket was still very much needed. The streets were busier than usual, which I guessed was because of the sun being out, and people wanting to enjoy it and go places. Despite the traffic, I arrived five minutes earlier. My heart was beating way too fast when I entered the crowded restaurant, nervous in advance at how awkward this would be.

I spotted Michelle right away, the massive stroller next to her table hard to miss. After a deep breath, I went in her direction. She noticed me as I was halfway there and gave me a warm smile with a hand wave. I returned both, and when I reached her, she stood up to greet me.
