Beside me, her voice was low as she spoke, "Anna."
Red tinted her cheeks as she peeked up at the guy. She thought he was cute, her bright cheeks gave it away. I had to admit, they would look cute together, in a superman and Louis type of way. Visibly checking her out, he smiled at Anna. He wasn't hiding the fact that he was interested. One point for him if he asks her out.
His eyes were stuck on Anna's, "Cool, I'm Isaac. What can I get you guys"
He was definitely feeling her...
She glanced at me. I motion with a nod to go ahead. This guy was obviously dying to talk to her. Snarling at me, I struggled to contain my smile. I was being that kind of friend right now. This was the first time I've seen Anna interacting with a guy. Any longer, I would've thought she preferred the opposite sex. You like what you like, who was I to judge. She knew exactly what I was doing and she would thank me later.
"Yes, can we have some popcorn and two sodas...I'll take some skittles too."
She was focused on everything else but the guy lusting after her. Squatting, the top of his head remained visible before he pulled the snacks from under the counter.
Anna went to pull money from her wallet. Her hand was outstretched as she placed the change on the counter. His hand reached out to grab hers before she could pull back. The gesture made her cheeks turn a darker shade of red.
This was a definite cockblocker moment. I'm just here for the food. I was trying so hard to ignore their conversation. Their strong connection was undeniable. I could relate to that pulling sensation. I was a stuttering mess whenever Damon was around. At least her guy wasn't the big bad wolf.
My eyes averted when they got closer. It felt awkward being the third wheel.
"You were my last customer for the night." He started. "Wanna hang out?"
Anna didn't move the hand trapped under his.
"Um sure."
Wait what?
Realizing she just agreed to ditch me, her head snapped my way. The gleam in her eyes spoke volumes. Anna could be uptight sometimes, but I've never seen her react this way with any guy. I wouldn't be that friend to ruin her opportunity to let loose, even for a moment.
"Go ahead. I'm good." I stared between them.
I could kick it solo for a while. There was a lot of land to explore and people I needed to avoid. Twisting her lips into a smile, she embraced me. When we separated Isaac was by her side. Then they were gone, disappearing into the crowd up ahead.
Nobody looked familiar, at least, until I spotted Melody standing with a small circle of friends. The girl I had fought was in the group, a cast covered her arm. Melody smiled at me. She followed Melody's eyes, then they landed on me. The girl made a sour face before she looked away. Until now, it never occurred to me that I didn't even know her name.
I stood frozen by the snack counter. I had no idea what to do without my girls. I didn't want to approach Melody because she was different around her friends. Either you get the bitch or the nice girl. I wasn't interested in finding out. I didn't want to be awkward and sit alone at one of the picnic tables. After the mental debate, my body rested against one of the posts under the pavilion. My friends were long gone and as more people showed up, fancy sport cars started forming a line where the track began.
Moving myself from the post I stepped into the crowd. My eyes caught April leaning against the car kissing Eric. They were so caught up in sharing saliva that Eric didn't hear his name being called. I closed my eyes in disgust, before I hear the roar of a car. My eyes snapped open. Almost every eye was locked on the Ford Mustang speeding down the field. The Mustang rushed in the direction of heedless bystanders near the track. Their cups dropped to the ground as the speeding vehicle gained their focus.
Drawing in a deep breath the car nearly missed them by a few inches. At the last moment the driver swerved the car. It finally stopped where the other cars were lined on the track. It had almost felt intentional as though the driver was playing around. What an asshole.
I walked near the start of the track. I wanted a better view. I was close enough to see the three dudes who were almost hit. One of them moved closer to the car. His mouth started moving before he rammed his fists into the dark tints. His friends were at his back like bodyguards ready to pounce if need be.
The guy looked ready to fight, chest puffed out in that way males did in the heat of the moment. From here I couldn't make out his features, but his erratic movements made his attempt to be the tough guy, almost comical. He was doing way too much. In a flash a broad figure jumped out of the car. The motion pushed his body into the same guy who was yelling before. Their faces blanched with fear. They all stepped back looking like they were held at gun point. Even from this distance it radiated from their bodies. The driver didn't move an inch. Whatever he said had all three guys backing up in surrender. Then they sprinted across the field.
Not so tough now huh.
The broad figure turned; their fear instantly made perfect sense. Guess his reputation precedes outside the walls of school. Damon came around the back of his car with swag. A smug look was pasted on his face.
I want to rip it off....
He looked all man and rugged which somehow made him even sexier. Ugh, now I understood why girls went for the bad boy look. His hair flowed around broad shoulders bringing out his exotic features. You would never know Damon had money from his clothes. He didn't dress to impress. He commanded power, but there was no doubt in my mind that the plain white tee and designer jeans hanging low on his hips had cost a fortune. I felt the urge to hide. Desire washed over me like boiling hot water. The feelings forced themselves upon me and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it.
I wasn't fearful of Damon seeing me here. No. I feared my reaction when he caught me. Not once in my life had I allowed someone to affect me to this level. The need to let him have his way with me rushed through my senses whenever he was near. I didn't want those feelings.
The only solution was to confront him. If it went how I'd envisioned the million times I had played it repeatedly in my head, he would leave me alone. Maybe then it wouldn't feel like I had a target on my back.
