When my phone dinged from an incoming text message, I didn't bother hiding the excitement over April's request to hang out. She didn't mention the specifics of our sudden plans but I was willing to do just about anything to leave the house. I was suddenly in a chipper mood. Jumping out of bed, I walk into the bathroom and rush to get ready.
I need this...

After nearly fifteen minutes, the truck descended into a grovel road which appeared to continue for miles. From my side, I see blankets of trees flashing by in a blur.
"Where are we going?" I asked inside the silent truck.
It was too silent without Savannah's blaring music.
"Street racing."
Anna smacks her teeth from the back seat.
"You guys would have never came if I told you."
Anna interrupts her. "Well duh."
She wasn't wrong about that. As open as I was too trying new things, Anna was the opposite. The truck fell silent again. I could hear Anna fuming from the back.
When we made a sharp turn, the deserted pathway guided us into a field engulfing the massive patch of land. Even from a distance, the variety of vehicles parked haphazardly implied how prevalent street racing was in these parts. I guess when you were rich, danger was excitement because the normal things didn't appease you anymore. It wasn't rocket science to figure out that police were absent in the area and the entire lot was filled with cars.
We pulled the car between two mustangs. The headlights penetrated a few people leaning on the fence. Two guys and a girl squinted back into the blinding lights. With the ignition off, they turned around, attention focused elsewhere. Not the friendliest gesture but I can't say I would've been happy with bright lights in my face either.
Anna's voice filled the air before I could release the piles of questions flooding in my brain.
"So, what's the plan tonight? No more surprises..."
Savannah's cheeks blushed a deep red, guilt washing over her features. It was a low blow. I couldn't blame Anna for being mad at her. I would rather stay home alone than third wheel with Sav and her boo.
"Don't be mad...." She paused, as if waiting for a reaction; I stare at her with a blank expression.
"I told Eric we would come watch the race..." She stalls.
"And..." I was getting impatient.
"Damon might be coming..."
"Let me get this straight. You decided that because your boyfriend invited you to an illegal street race, you'd think it be a good idea to invite us along?" Anna said to her.
"And not tell Rome that Damon might be here tonight?" Anna hissed. "What great friend you are."
Savannah watches her in silence.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
I stay silent. I was curious to see how this would unfold. Street racing sounded exciting Anna was of a different bred. We got along mostly, but when we disagreed it was all out war. It was obvious she didn't want to be here. She was all about sticking to the rules. Her folks blamed our newfound friendship for Anna's sudden change in behavior. If anything, her parents truly didn't know their daughter.
Savannah wiggles her brows.
"Don't leave, come on, it'll be fun."
I roll my eyes, then face Anna. She looked pissed.
