These people wouldn't survive one day in my world.
In class I couldn't focus not with the snickering coming from the back. There were countless times throughout class when I wanted to look back. Like what the hell is so funny. I caught four pairs of eyes looking at me, sharing whispers from the back of the room. It was clear their whispers revolved around me. From the hateful gazes they were giving me, whatever they were saying wasn't good. I settled for a messy look today, no care in the world to get glammed up for school. The usual lip-gloss that painted my lips most days, were absent leaving my full lips dry. My curls rested at the top of my head, in wild coils that went every which way. It wasn't a bad look, though the two girls thought otherwise. Maybe they weren't used to seeing chocolate females. We were an entirely different breed. I couldn't blame them for their scrutiny, they probably weren't used to seeing a shade so rich and melanin. I was proud to be black, there was nobody on earth that could make me hate the color of my skin.
I roll my eyes and turn around in my seat. Slugging low in the chair, I tried with all my might to focus on the teacher's words. Anna had caught where my attention was seconds ago. She twists around and give the girl a middle finger. I snort loud enough that Mr. Howard stops talking. I bow my head when he looks my way. I smile at my desk and slouch down in my chair.
Atta girl...
Rather than entertaining the tasteless snickers coming from the back, I concentrated on the PowerPoint lecture Howard was teaching. There was a high possibility I had missed more than half of the lecture, meaning I would have to copy Sav's notes. The next thirty minutes stretched on, before the ringing sound echoed throughout the room.
The minute I heard the bell, I jumped eagerly from my seat, taking steps toward the door. Equally zealous students waved past me as I walked into the hallway. I hate crowded places.
Marching to the opposite end of the popcorn tiled wall, I waited for my friends to emerge from the classroom. My vision scanned the long entryway, before finding the two familiar faces from earlier fleeing through the door. one of them spotted me. They gave me a once over, giggling before getting lost in the crowd.
When I finally spotted my friends coming out of class, my steps fell into motion with theirs, lacing between the strings of small crowds lingering the hall. People were taking school spirit to another level, and if you weren't a willing participant, you were seen as an outsider. I felt like I was in the spotlight with the number of eyes that were on me.
It wasn't until the end of the day when things went too far. We waved Anna down as she was sliding into her father's truck. She turned her head towards us, wiggling her fingers in a wave before snapping the door shut. When I turned my head, Damon and his boy stood in a small crowd. A few girls were laced between them, but two familiar faces caught my attention.
Savannah waves her hand in front of my face, "Did you hear me?" I shake my head.
"See you later babe." She blows a kiss from her puckered lips and strolls between a line of cars.
There was ten minutes to spare before I would start my short walk to the bus station. It wasn't like I wanted to stick around, but it was better than lingering around the station for longer than needed. It was the perfect location to get kidnapped. Reluctantly looking over, I found a few pair of eyes watching me.
Kyro glanced between Damon and I, shaking his head, like he was in on some secret, before turning to face some other guy. My ten minutes were up, seemingly as I glanced down at my phone. Making my way between a couple of girls, apologizing as I brushed too closely to one of them. My steps were lined in the direction of the small group ahead. Trying not to focus on the eyes piercing me, I keep my eyes forward as I moved to pass them.
