Syra woke up around 4 in the morning, she was thirsty. Sighing she got up took the jug and filled a glass of water. While drinking her eyes swept across the room and landed towards the balcony. Sleep had already evaded her senses so she maneuvered her path towards the balcony. The gloaming sky with stars and crescent stole her heart. She saw a hammock that was hanged in the corner and a few lights that were not illuminated but the candles gave their presence away. She went and reclined in the hammock her eyes glazing over every star and stopping at the moon which was in the shape of the waning-moon. Her head - which was always a jumbled mess of thoughts- was cleared. She was not thinking too much just the right amount. There was no confusion and chaotic equations in her head. She was relaxed, after a long time. No nightmares, no bad feelings, no waking up with a panic attack, nothing.

'Perhaps, tonight is a night of surprises... At least for me'.

Smiling a little, she stared at the sky. Her head in peace. The call for prayer had just finished. She did not know for how long she stayed there but out of nowhere the fairy lights sparkled and she looked at the intruder who was none other than her husband.

'Oh, what a strange word. How in such little time every word will be birthed with new meanings, husband. He, my husband. Who would have thought the man I once crushed upon, who still makes my heart act out of order, will today be my husband. Life truly is full of surprises. I wish mine came wrapped in a gift paper and not as a last resort'.

She started at him and then glazed her eyes back towards the atmosphere. He watched her, completely mystified. The lights making everything around him magical.

"What are you doing here at this time of the night?" His husky voice caused her heart to do a somersault. Something about his sleep invaded voices was extremely desirable.

"Stargazing. Would you like to join?"

"If you want to be alone then no, but if you want my company then I can."

"First, we should go and pray, then we can stargaze."

Without another word, they both moved to make their ablution and they prayed the same prayers. Fishing up they both moved back to resume star gazing. Everything was so delicate, calm. The chaos, for the first time, was absent.

Reclining back into the hammock, she waited for him to join her. He was not there. Looking around she saw him leaning on the door frame looked up at the sky.

"You can share the hammock with me."

He without a word just gaped at her, bewildered. But nonetheless, moved to where she was.

They were too close. The hammock was not big like the bed and their proximity did nothing but fuelled the fire burning in both of them. Pulling her flush towards him, he gazed deeply into her eyes, searching for something. Anything that could give him hope. And slowly he found it. He found his hope. Kissing her forehead, he moved towards her cheek, first right and them left. Slowly he kissed her eyes, first left, and then right. Kissing his way down he reached her chin and kissed her there. She was breathing deeply, heavily. Her eyes closed and her heart throbbing against his chest. Her petite form shivering. Her throat parched. He for one last time kissed her near her lips, way too close. Almost touching. Sighing he leaned back. Her eyes were still close and when she saw him moving she opened them. Only to see his one hand behind his head and one on her waist keeping her close to him.

He broke their staring session and watched the sky clothed with stars and crescent. The sheath of stars and crescent, with the fairy lights illuminating the surrounding, he found himself embracing peace.

"Have you ever came here and stargazed before?" She asked him with crimson covering her face. She needed this silence that was looming over them to go away.

"No, I always went to the terrace to think and this hammock was added yesterday because I remember when you once said you want your room's balcony this way".

She looked at him incredulously and smiled fondly at the memory.

He was outside sitting on the patio when she went to call him. His family was staying here due to the bad weather of Islamabad. It was raining heavily and her father could not have risked letting them travel back to their house in this rain.

It was midnight and everyone had retired to bed when she noticed his absence and so went to look for him, didn't have to look much because the door was open. His back visible.

The pitter patter of rain, the thunders, and the jolts of the sky, she was not afraid of them. She loved the rain and the storms that came with it. It distracted her from the storm inside her. Propelling towards him she scanned and figured he was in deep thoughts.

"What are you thinking so deeply?" He was startled at her voice. He looked up at her and then back ahead silently.

"Nothing, I like the rain, thought to come here and enjoy it."

"I love the rain myself. I would always watch it from my bedroom window and would wish to have a hammock so I could recline in that and hear the showers making music. The thunders would be the singers. A concert all for my own in the solitary of peacefulness and calmness." She rambled in a daze. A smile stretched upon her lips. She looked at him and giggled.

"Well I hope one day, you will have your wish come true." He chuckled looking at her.

They looked at each other for a few minutes and then for no reason started laughing. Her laugh was soft and melodious for him, he could hear it for eternity and not get bored. Whereas, his laughter was deep and really masculine. It made him more handsome. Once their laughter died down they started ahead into the darkness of the night and thought about everything and nothing.

She thought about how she suppressed her feelings for him and he thought about how he finds himself deep in love with her. If only they were brave enough to say it out loud. Things would have been so different.

Slowly he felt drowsy and dreamy. He glanced at her to see her sleeping in his arms, like a baby, her long curled lashes fused with her skin, the pink that tainted her cheeks and nose, drawing him in. She looked divine even in her sleep. He instantly had this urge to keep her safe forever. Wounding his arms tightly around her, his head on top of hers, he also succumbed to sleep and let the calm night sky envelop them in its peaceful embrace, keeping them away from disasters and storms. The stars whispered in the sky, singing lullabies for them to sleep. The crescent of the moon smiled wide. They both slept unknown to the world. In each other's arm. Tranquility surrounding them. Lingering above their heads fighting the nightmares trying to creep in.
