Chapter 13

For most people, a hospital is a scary place.. a hostile place.. a place where bad things happen. Most people would prefer church or school.. or home. But I.. grew up here while my mom was on rounds I learned to read in the O.R. Gallery, I played in the morgue, I colored with crayons on old E.R. charts. The hospital was my church.. my school.. my home. The hospital was my safe place.. my sanctuary. I loved it here. Correction - loved it here.

I walked into my daughters room "hey Sarah are you ready to go home" I asked her, "yes mommy" she smiled, "now daddy is in surgery but after we are done in a couple hours we are gonna go home then next week you can go back to school" I told her she nodded "hey guys" Arizona said coming in, "hi Dr. Robbins" Sarah said, "hey I'm just here to do a check up to make sure you are ready to be discharged" she then said, I got a page "I have to go bye Sarah" I quickly said then ran out her room

I got to the pit "what the hell happened" I asked bailey, "multiple crush victims from a multi car pile up all hands on deck" bailey yelled going into a trauma room, I followed Cristina out to the ambulance bay "Jerry nickel unresponsive at scene his pulse is good and a very active heartbeat" the paramedic said, "let's get him to trauma bay 2 and start IV fluids" I said, "I'm looking for a Dr. Shepherd" I heard a man say, "I don't know where he is ask someone else we are very busy down here" a nurse told him, I looked at the man and he looked fairly familiar "we have to get him to CT and page webber" I said moving him out of the trauma room

A few hours later I'm down in the tunnels with Cristina "wow um are we happy?" Cristina said, "yes I mean I am" I told her, "did you tell derek yet?" she asked me, "no I mean I just found out, I mean should I go tell him?" I asked walking off with her "I'm gonna go see my daughter" I said separating from Cristina, on my way I saw the same guy who was asking for derek earlier walk by, once I walked into her room I she was sound asleep. I then got a page "hm that's weird" I said, I then walked over to a phone to answer the page. a shooter in the hospital I need to find derek I quickly run out of the peds section of the hospital to go look for my husband "hey do you believe a shooter is in the hospital" i asked Cristina when I saw her, "I mean I could but why would one even come here" I asked, "I don't know" she said

Me and Cristina walked around the hospital when Derek caught us "hey what are you two doing?" He asked, "walking around?" Cristina said, "we are in stay in position lock down that means stay where you are no moving" he said, I saw him look around "okay go in here and stay I'll come get you when it's over" he said closing the door, "you look sick" Cristina said, "it around that time, where I hurl this baby inside me wants me to die. Sarah was never like this, omg" I said, "what are you okay?" She asked me, "I forgot about Sarah omg Cristina I forgot about Sarah I'm such a horrible mother I'm Ellis grey I am turning into my mother I always told myself I wouldn't be her, Cristina-" I threw up in a bucket before I could finish my sentence, "Meredith what ever you do don't and I mean don't look out this window" Cristina said trying to cover the window, "what Cristina oh my god" I said covering my mouth, "I need to get to him I need him to stop, he is taking away my daughters father" I told her, I pushed Cristina out of the way and ran out of the room to see derek get shot in the chest.
