Chapter 9

It's been almost a month since Sarah came to live with us and Samantha actually called us last night to let us know our hearing is today, the notice was very late and we had no time to prepare but we felt like we were ready "okay Sarah izzie is going to watch you while me and mommy go somewhere" I told my daughter helping her put her shoes on I kissed her head and she went with izzie to the hospital

I walked into the kitchen seeing a very teary eyed Meredith "hey what's wrong" I brushed her hair with my fingers hoping to calm her down "I'm so scared that we aren't going to get her" she said leaning her head on my chest, my phone rings in my front pocket I grab it seeing it says 'Samantha AA' "hello?" I said still holding Meredith "hi Dr.shepherd I know in my call yesterday I said you don't need to bring Sarah but the judge would want you two to bring her" she told me, "um. We sent her to the hospital with our friend but we will go get her then be on our way" I told her rubbing Meredith back, "great I'll see you three soon" she said then hung up, "what did they want" Meredith looked up and said, "we have to pick Sarah up the judge wants her there" I said kissing her head

We made it to the hospital and I quickly went up to daycare then brought her in the car, Meredith helped Sarah put on dress with some nice shoes. We got to the courthouse "hold my hand and don't let go" Meredith said, Sarah took her hand and I took Meredith's we walked into the courthouse like a little family.

once our name was called we walked in seeing Adam and Lydia awing at Sarah I mean who wouldn't she looks exactly like her mother we all sat down together in the front "welcome today we are here to decide the parents and custody of Sarah Shepherd, now we here have Lydia and Adam Montana potential parents of Sarah and now we have Dr.Meredith Grey and Dr.Derek Shepherd birth parents of Sarah" the judge said, "now I would like to hear both sides starting with Lydia and Adam" he then said

"Adam and I have been together for a very long time, we have a son one year older than Sarah but after him we found that we couldn't have anymore children and when we saw Sarah at the orphanage we knew we wanted to have her, I literally couldn't keep my eyes off of her. But when we found out about the fire I thought we had lost her, my husband and I have so much love and care for that little girl. We made up a room for her with all of her favorite things we are just waiting to take her home now" Lydia told the judge, "thank you now I would like to hear from the birth parents" he then said

"when Meredith told me about Sarah at first I was upset because she never told me when she got pregnant but during this time we've had Sarah with us we gotten to know her so well, we know that French toast is her favorite breakfast and she hates the crust on pizza. one little quirk about her is that she snores like her mother, Meredith and I have loved this time with her getting to know her and just spending time with her. Yes we are doctors and can't always spend each second with her but I'm glad we work in an environment where there is a daycare we can send her to and if anything happens we will be right in that building, when I got that page from one of our colleagues about Sarah my heart literally dropped. We stayed for her while she was being operated on and then she pulled through like a literal champ, then later that week we got to take her home and we had the best month ever we all really loved it" I told the judge holding in my tears. I sat back down and the judge took a breath "now I know she's supposed to be a little bit older to do this but Sarah who do you want to really live with" the judge said

Sarah stood up "miss Lydia and mr Adam are nice but the boy at where they are is really mean to me, mommy and daddy's house is really fun I have my own room with lots of toys and izzie makes really yummy French toast oh izzie is mommy's friend and daddy reads me a book every night but miss Lydia only reads me like a page and mr Adam doesn't really seem to like me when I talk about my stuffies, I would like to live with mommy and daddy" Sarah said with a cheeky smile, I looked over at Lydia and Adam seeing guilt on their faces. Sarah sat down but in my lap putting her little arms around my neck giving me a tiny hug, I kissed her head

"I guess that settles it, I declare Dr. Meredith Grey and Dr. Derek Shepherd to be Sarah's parents. In family court we always try to keep families together and I knew from the start that Sarah should be with her own parents. I've read the statement me Dr. Grey gave to Samantha and i know how you felt I went through the same with with my wife years ago, I hope you all have an amazing day case closed" the judge said with a smile

I looked at Meredith with the brightest smile ever we both have Sarah the most amazing hug and kissed her cheeks, we walked out of there like an actual little family
