During his last class on Friday, Blaise listened to Hermione as she explained the differences between a wolf and werewolf. She had the class's rapt attention, but when she released them, two snot-nosed, cute little Slytherins came over to him, tugged his robes, and asked, "Professor Zabini, what spells would you use on a werewolf?"

Granger gave a look of annoyance, probably jealousy, as she had run the class today, but he always had a soft spot for his housemates. He knelt down.

"How old are you, Mr. Borgin?" he asked.

Alex's younger brother, Harris, straightened up, "Going to be twelve on Sunday!"

His friend, Jerice, said, haughtily, "I'm still taller than you."

"Are not!"

"Twelve, eh? Werewolves really like twelve-year-olds," Blaise said, with a straight-face.

Harris's eyes went wide and Jerice said, "Ha! I don't turn twelve until May!"

"Professor Zabini?" Hermione said, in a chiding way.

He gave her a smirk and turned back to the students. "I'm just joking. My point is why would you need to know spells like that?"

Jerice mumbled out in a hurry, "Well, the werewolves attacked the Ministry, yesterday, Professor! Aurors were killed."

"And there's a full moon Sunday! The Forbidden Forest is filled with werewolves!" Harris exclaimed.

"The forest is not filled with werewolves and you are safe at Hogwarts," Hermione said, firmly, failing at reassuring the teeny first years.

Blaise refrained from rolling his eyes. "There are wolves in the forest, intelligent ones at that. Do you remember the differences?"

Harris straightened up and said, in a proud Slytherin way, "Tufted tail, shorter snort, eyes and they hunt humans, Professor!"

"Very good," Hermione praised and Harris smiled, but he still wanted an answer.

"Do wolves hunt humans?" Blaise asked.

Harris was unsure. "No?"

"Usually not. Wolves and werewolves can't get into the castle at night with the doors closed. The windows are too high to jump. You don't have to worry."

"What if you're outside?" Harris said, not looking at him.

"You shouldn't be outside at night," Hermione said, flatly.

Blaise ignored her. "Werewolves are magical creatures when they transform. Normal spells aren't going to work. But I have a spell that would stop a wolf in its tracks."

Hermione looked at him and said, "Professor Zabini... don't you think that'll be a little advanced for...."

"Will you tell us it?" Harris pleaded.

"Of course!" Blaise said and leaned in to whisper it into his ear. "You got it?"

"Yes, Professor! Thank you!" Harris said and grabbed Jerice and ran out the door.

"Blaise! You can't lie to the students! They would never be able to bring down a werewolf at their age! You would have a problem bringing one down!" Hermione growled.

"I said wolf, not werewolf. Not that either will be the case."

"What?"

"The older Slytherins are hazing him on Sunday for his birthday, most likely because Alex is his older brother. They probably dared him to sneak out and go to the edge of the forest. Probably been filling his head with lots of stories about werewolves and dead children."
