"Ice cream," Kenzie began, lifting a spoonful of mocha ice cream from her pint, "is most compatible with pancakes." She ends her statement by dumping the ice cream on a hot pancake, fresh from the pan. She slices a piece and made sure it was soaked with the ice cream and ate it, licking her lips in delight.

"Is it healthy to eat ice cream this early in the morning?" Cassie asked, setting down her phone as Jianna hands her a plate.

"I don't care," Alexa replied, happily clapping her hands as a new fresh plate piled with pancakes is placed in front of her. "It's good to start your day right with something delicious for breakfast."

"Could you pass me my ice cream?" Ada asked Jianna as she quickly runs to the freezer and pulls out her own pint. She tosses it in the air and Ada catches it with one hand. "Thank you!" she says.

"Flex flex early in the morning," Kirsten remarked, already finishing her first pancake. "So are any of you guys going to work today?"

"I need to finish some things in the office," Kenzie replied. "Ada's having a reunion with her old volleyball teammates in highschool. And what about you, Cass?"

"I'm visiting my parents," Cassie replies, carefully spreading butter on her pancake.

"I have to get the car fixed," Jianna adds, turning off the stove. "Something's leaking near the tires."

"Huh?!" Alexa said out loud, nearly dropping her fork. "Why are all of you guys busy again?"

She turns to Kirsten, hoping for an answer she wants to hear. Kirsten sighs, "Sorry, Bobby. I promised to eat lunch with my Dad today."

Alexa frowned, her eyes resembling a sad puppy on a rainy day. Once again, the five of them had errands outside the house. She was often left at home and was alone up until dinner. In the first few days, she was fine with it. She had the T.V. all to herself and could sing as loud as she could without anyone around to hear her voice cracks.

"We'll all come back early, Bob," Kenzie reassured her. "We'll buy some doughnuts when we get back."

"Yep," Ada chimes in. "And we'll watch that drama together. The one Cassie suggested."

Cassie smiled to herself.

Alexa nodded, slowly continuing her breakfast. "Okay then. You guys stay safe out there."

"We will," Cassie replied. "Have fun here, Bob. We'll be back in a jiffy."

"Yeah," Alexa muttered, finishing up the last piece of pancake on her plate.

"Hey," Kenzie said softly as the lady behind the counter packed a dozen glazed doughnuts in a box. "I feel really bad that Bobby is constantly alone at home."

"I know," Jianna replied, handing her a bunch of tissues from the counter. "The car's been out of shape lately. That's why I've been going out."

"And I don't think apologizing with doughnuts would suffice," Kenzie added, taking the box and thanking the lady.

"What do you suggest we do?" Jianna asked.

"I'm not so sure," Kenzie muttered.

"Hi y'all," Kirsten greeted from a far with Cassie and Ada, holding a shopping bag.

"What did you buy now?" Jianna asked, trying not to sound annoyed.

"It's from her Dad," Ada replied. "It's a bunch of cookies."

"All this sugar for Bob," Cassie remarked with a silent giggle.

"But I don't think it would be enough," Kenzie added.

All of five of them nodded in agreement. Every time they left Bob at home, they had a sense of guilt. They all remembered how sad Bob was while she ate her pancakes and it broke their heart.

Suddenly, Cassie's face lit up with an idea.

"Guys," she began. "I think I know what we should get for Bob."

She heard a screech in the garage.

Are they back already?

Alexa hurriedly rose up from the couch, her favorite movie on pause. She runs toward the door, opening it for everyone. Strangely, they all had wide smiles on their faces. She arched her eyebrow, "What's up with you guys?"

She then noticed that Cassie was missing.

Alexa looked around behind them, "Where'd Joe go?"

"We got you something, Bobby~" Kirsten sang.

As if on queue, Cassie pops in with a huge box in her hand. She squeals, "Surprise Bobby!"

She puts the box down and it opens up, causing Alexa to jump back. A tiny fluffy brown head pops up, then scared eyes, then a tiny nose. Then a fluffy brown tail began to wag behind the creature.

Alexa screamed, "A puppy!!"

It whimpered, slightly terrified. Alexa quickly and gently lifts the little baby dog. It was a small brown Labrador puppy. As it recognizes its new owner, it wagged its tail and stuck out its tongue in delight.

Alexa cooed, trying to hush it from its scared little whimpers. The puppy slowly and gently licked a tiny bit on her cheek, accepting its new owner.

"Aww, he's so cute," Alexa whispers. "What's his name?"

"We wanted you to name him," Ada said.

Alexa face lit up. "MJ DASH."

They stood silently. "That's quite long," Kenzie said.

"Or," Alexa added. "Mashy."

"Mashy?" Jianna repeated.

"MJ Dash. Mash. Mashy!" Alexa said as she hugs Mashy tighter. The puppy happily wags it tail faster.

"Well, if Bobby's happy," Cassie said. "Then we're fine with that. Right?"

They all looked at Alexa, happily rocking little Mashy in her arms. She knew she wasn't going to be alone anymore. She has Mashy.

And her five friends.

"Yep," they all said in unison.

Welcome to the family, Mashy <3
