Epilogue

The ambulance arrived quickly and Mattie rode to the hospital with Jordan

After an examination it was determined that one of the bullets hit his leg

It was only a graze wound and they released him a few hours later

He leaned on Mattie as they walked into the house

"Go get that leg elevated "

"Yes ma'am "

Jordan laid on the couch and patted the spot next to him

Mattie curled up into his arms and laid her head on his chest

"Henry said all the charges have been filed against Richard and Aiden didn't make it.One of the bullets hit his chest "

Mattie stared at him wide eyed

"Yea he's dead ,baby "

"What about Richard ?"

"His injuries were treated on scene and he was transported to city jail "

Mattie let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding

"He's facing a lot of charges "

"Including murder "

Mattie nodded

"But now we can breathe no more arsons ,murders or innocent people hurt because of Richard and Aiden "

Three Months Later

They sat in the courtroom listening to Richard's lies while on the stand

When Jordan was called to the stand to testify Richard tried as many things as he could to intimidate him

Jordan didn't falter .

When the judge called a recess Jordan led Mattie out to the hallway

"Hopefully they have enough to put him away "

"Are you okay ?"

"That was the toughest thing I ever had to do "Jordan admitted

"Testify against your brother ?"

"No talking about my mother's death.I have no problem telling the judge what a psychotic piece of shit he is but having to relive everything for my mother was hard "

Mattie wrapped her arms around him

"I'm sure she's proud of you "

"I hope so "

Twenty minutes later they were called back into the courtroom

The judge told Richard to stand for the verdict

Richard sneered at his brother as he stood

Jordan kept his eyes trained on the judge as he addressed Richard

"Richard Knight you have no remorse for your crimes .You show no emotion or compassion for human life .This court finds you guilty of the charge of arson as well as the charge of murder in the murders of Mary Knight and Nancy Knight as well as the attempted murders of Matilda Knight,Nathaniel Knight and Jordan Knight.This court sentences you to the term of life in prison on each count of murder plus thirty years for each count of attempted murder "

Richard didn't flinch didn't say a word just sneered at his brother

Jordan squeezed Mattie's hand as the verdict was read trying to hold in his emotion

Mattie lifted his hand to her lips and kissed his hand

They stood and walked out of the courtroom hand in hand

Jordan pulled her into his arms "Life begins now ,baby"

TWO YEARS LATER

"Push baby"Jordan encouraged his wife

Mattie whimpered

"I can't do this ."

"Yes you can baby ,You're amazing "

Mattie's body seized as another contraction overtook her

Jordan rubbed her back and kissed her temple

"You can do this baby "

Mattie felt lightheaded

"Just a few more pushes "the doctor encouraged

Mattie groaned as she felt her stomach tighten with another contraction

"You can do this "Jordan soothed

Mattie glared at him

"Okay Mattie let's do this "

Mattie groaned as she felt her stomach tighten

She pushed as the room began to spin and go blurry

"That's it baby keep pushing "

"Fuck you "she hissed

Jordan never left her side as she continued to squeeze his hand

"One more push "the doctor directed

Mattie let out a breath

"C'mon baby one more and our little prince will be here "

Mattie looked into his chocolate eyes and pushed

The sound of a shrill cry filled the room

"You did it baby "Jordan murmured as he kissed her

Mattie looked down to see a tiny body laid on her chest

Mattie's eyes filled with tears at the sight of their son

"Hi little man I'm your dad and this is your mom "Jordan murmured as he touched the baby's head

The baby turned his head to Jordan's voice

Mattie stroked his head

"He's perfect "she whispered

"Just like his mom "Jordan murmured kissing her lips tenderly

Eight Weeks Later

Jordan stepped into the living room after a long day at the lab

"Mattiebug ?"he called as he searched the house

"We're up here "she called back

Jordan took the steps two at a time until he reached the second floor

Walking into the nursery he found Mattie rocking their son

"You're home earlier than expected "Mattie whispered

Jordan nodded

"I wanted to help you put Matty to bed "

Mattie smiled at him while the baby just stared at his hands.

Jordan kissed the baby's head

Mattie put the baby in his crib and turned to wrap her arms around her husband

"Thank you "

"What are you thanking me for ?"Mattie asked puzzled

"For giving me the perfect family "
