today's chapter will be a bit different from my usual chapters (: so, i've been trying to find cpop songs (which turned out to be rlly difficult, apparently they don't have youtube in china ??) because i became curious about it after seeing a clip of this one chinese idol offering himself to sugar daddies 😭😭 and here's my first impression:
the first song i heard was "hard to get" by an artist called kun. i did some research and apparently he was on a show called idol producer which is like the produce series (also found out that he has visited finland, we stan). anyways i think this song is ok, it's quite boring and i noticed that he doesn't even sing in chinese so is it even cpop?
the next song i heard was dazzle by oner, and not gonna lie the first thing i thought of was that weird russian singer meme from a few years back.. that isn't necessarily negative tho bc both songs lowkey slap !!
moving on, i then listened to a song that goes wo wo wo woo woo woo woOo skrr skrr (unfortunately i can't remember the name ): ) and it's ok, except the chorus aka the woo woo skrr part.. lit rally just gibberish.. the rapper lowkey went off tho, love that !!
i then decided to listen to kun's group, nine percent, and i noticed that crack videos and variety shows about them have more views than their mvs, and i oop- ... anyways, the song i listened to is called rule breaker and it's pretty nice until the chorus. rapper at the beginning snapped tho, i wish he got more parts :/ i couldn't help but notice that the audio was super low quality, almost as if they recorded it with a microwave or something, but it be like that sometimes.
i decided to check out more songs by the woo woo skrr group and i found one that i actually like !! i think the song is called back to you, and it's a bit more on the calm side. they should make more songs like this tbh. the mv is nicely shot and i love the aesthetics. dude with purple hair is also v beautiful hhh
at this point i started to wonder if there are any chinese girlgroups because i couldn't find any just by searching "cpop" on youtube. after doing a bit more digging i found a playlist with cpop ggs and i discovered "the brightest diamond" by a group called mera. this song is actually very good and original sounding !! it definitely ended up on my playlist. it reminds me a tiny bit of limitless by nct, nonetheless very good and the only criticism i have that they had a low quality mv :/
continuing to explore cpop ggs, i found "mamama" by kogirls. i have mixed feelings about this song, it's nice but the vocals in the verses sound a bit weird, almost as if they'd be singing inside a fishbowl.. i love the instrumental and chorus though, and that dance break thing before the last chorus goes hard ngl.
