Raining Frogs

There was a sense of serenity in the atmosphere as the waterfall's ambience surrounded the forest. No corner or spot ever escaped the sounds of animals crittering around, or the sound of the river running through the center of the wilderness, or the sounds of the wind teasing at the leaves of trees.

El Yunque, was just an inescapable place of nature. And Musa loved that about the infamous rainforest of the island of Puerto Rico.

Musa was a nymph that guarded the rainforest, hidden from most life as she made sure no true harm affected the place she was binded to.

"Must you always chew that preposterous excuse of food?"

"It helps kill habits, Musa." The girl who had just sat next to the nymph chuckled as she settled her bag in front of them. "It's very effective."

Musa sighed, running her hands through what Ava called her 'crowning glory.' Musa didn't understand what she found so glorious of just another set of black curls. "Anything new?"

Ava, a girl with bold frames over her eyes, opened a notebook as she spoke. "They've signed the papers. El Yunque is officially a tourist spot as an order from America."

"America includes us as well." Musa huffed out and the waters they sat by splashed the rocks they sat on.

"Don't splash my notebook!" Ava tried to have a playful tone, but Musa looked more than upset. The human placed her right hand over the nymph's left knee. "Everything will be alright. You can do something. You always come up with a solution."

Musa tied the hem of her dress by her knees as she submerged her feet inside the river, moving away from Ava. "I can't this time. Too much manpower against me." She shook her head in surrender as she stood up, walking in the river.

Ava smiled as she looked down from Musa's back down to her notebook. "Do you believe in fate?"

"Fate is a construct the human mind invented in order to force each other into following a path they did not want and for lovers to make their love seem more than what it is." She turned to Ava with a slight smile. "No, I do not."

Ava looked up at Musa, who's smile faded to nothing as she noticed the hopeful glint in her earthy brown eyes, a hint of an old copper coin that humans made into currency. "Are we coincidence then?"

"Time is not measured by meetings, Ava. Time is just another construct, really, but it isn't about our moments. Humans make everything revolve around them when nature is the one that takes course, each leaf and animal having its own clock—"

"Musa." Ava chuckled as she called for her attention. There was something amusing about how clueless Musa was of human culture after having interacted with them for so long. But the nymph just had a way to look at any human, her storm filled eyes would calm to pretty ocean waves as she watched every move they did, almost in adoration. Even with her dark chocolate skin, those blue eyes always speared through anyone's gaze. "Do you not love me?"

Those same eyes softened and she sat back down next to Ava. "Of course, mi vida." Musa grabbed onto Ava's fair hands, admiring how bright she looked after all she went through. "From the moment I saw you, I fell in the love I never thought I could experience."

Ava smiled as she looked down at their hands. "When I first saw you, I thought I was still tripping on heroin. You really look out of this world."

"My form looks very human..." The confused nymph looked down at herself, thinking her dress looked just fine.

"Thank you." She grabbed her attention yet again, smiling up at the guardian of the forest. "You taught me sobriety through the love of nature and I am forever grateful for you."
