Avery poured ice over the few bottles of beer and drinks before tossing the ice bag in the trash and turning to face Ian.

Today they were going back to a traditional golf cart run. The past few weeks have been so busy with the last stretch of summer and Ian had needed Avery to work in the restaurant more than the course.

Now that families had left their summer homes and gone back to work or school, the club was just back to its former, laidback lunchtime hours.

Which also meant that Avery and Ian were working side by side again

"Ready?" He asked with a soft smile and Avery nodded and tossed him the keys.

"Sure thing," she said before getting into the passenger seat.

"Not up for driving today?" Ian asked and Avery shook her head no.

When she drives, Ian uses that opportunity to ask her questions that she sometimes doesn't like. And then it becomes harder for her to avoid them because she's focusing on the task of driving.

"I'm not in the mood to be in your 20 questions hot seat."

"Funny," Ian half smiled and Avery narrowed her eyes at him.

"But you are in the hot seat today,"

"You should know by now that I don't need a hot seat for us to have conversation."

"Right,"

"How's Annabelle doing with preschool and everything?" Avery asked and Ian glanced at her with a smile before stopping the car at the first hole.

"She's great, she's adjusting really well and she likes her friends. Some of them were in daycare with her." He nodded before they walked over to the golfers.

They stopped their conversation to serve the two golfers before getting in the cart again to go to the next hole.

"What about you? How are you adjusting to Anna going to school?" Avery asked with a small frown and Ian glanced at her with a small smile.

"Kind of hate it," he confessed. "I also put anna on this after school program where she basically learns something new everyday. Someday it's art or music or dance. Either way, she comes home with a new skill."

"But it also means that I don't get to see her as much," Ian pursed his lips before letting out a sigh.

"I'm sorry," Avery said and Ian nodded before the two of them got out of the cart.

"It's okay, it's really good actually. I now have a fixed schedule so I always get my evenings with her and also mornings."

"Well that's good," Avery said  and Ian nodded before she walked over to the golfers. It was a young couple and they were in a heated argument and when the woman saw Avery she waved her off and Avery quickly did a one eighty and turned around.

"Yikes," She said to Ian as they got in the cart.

"That could never be me," Ian shook his head and Avery frowned.

"What? Arguing?"

"No, arguing in public. I could never do it, people do not need to know my business."

"You're telling me you've never argued with Amy in public?"

Avery could recall more than 100 times she and Cameron got into public arguments.
