"It's the most, wonderful time, of the year." Alex sang under his breath as he prepared himself an afternoon snack and Avery walked into the room, interrupting him.

"Hey," she greeted and Alex raised an eyebrow at her.

"What's up?"

"Are you sure you want me to be here tonight when Quinn comes to visit?" Avery asked and Alex raised an eyebrow at her.

"I mean, when you first started dating her, the only sibling you had was Tate." Avery said and Alex nodded.

"But that's not the case anymore," Alex said before taking a bite of his sandwich. "You're a part of this family whether you or I like it." He said before putting the peanut butter jar back into the cabinet.

"Besides, it's cool to have a sister now," he shrugged and without another word he left the kitchen to go back upstairs to his room.

Avery let out a small smile before leaving the kitchen and making her way around the house to find Tate.

"There you are," Avery greeted when she found him in the backyard.

"What are you doing?" She asked and Tate turned to face him, dirt covering the front of the pair of jeans that Allison just gave him to wear half an hour ago.

"I'm trying to plant a garden," Tate answered without looking up from the patch of dirt in front of him.

"Oh cool!" Avery nodded. "Why are you planting a garden?" She frowned.

"It's for the cave." Tate replied before glancing at Avery.

The cave that Avery was not allowed to see.

"Can I help?" Avery asked and Tate gave her a side eye.

"You promise not to peek at the cave?" He asked and Avery nodded.

"Yes, I promise."

"Okay!" Tate nodded before handing her a garden trowel.

"What are we planting?" Avery asked and Tate handed her five sunflower seeds.

"Mom and Grandma said that I could plant ten sunflowers. That way when it's time for spring, they'll be blooming." He said as he dug a gardening fork into the ground.

"That's a good idea," Avery smiled before placing a seed into the hole she dug.

"Do you want tall sunflowers or short ones?" Avery asked and Tate glanced at her before going to his difficult task at hand.

"I want them super tall. That way it can camouflage the cave." He explained and Avery nodded while biting down on a laugh.

"Okay, so we need to spread them out then," she said and Tate nodded as if he know what that meant.

The worked together for about another half hour while Tate bombarded Avery with questions about any and everything. A few times, Peter stepped outside to talk with them but for the most part, it was just Tate and Avery bonding.
