I came home one cold November evening to find both Jennie and Riley nestled up on 'my side' of the bed. My son was cuddled to Jennie's chest, underneath the covers, while his NINI was lying on top of them, not dressed in her pajamas, but rather in a short, black dress. Her heels lay abandoned on the floor.

I was powerless to hide my smile.

Crossing the room to reach the two most important people in my life, I tried to be as silent as I could. Once I was beside them, I bent down to press a light kiss to Riley's forehead, before brushing a hand gently over Jennie's head. She stirred, and I touched my lips to hers. She whined.

My smile was widening, I took a seat on the side of the bed, beside my son, and rubbed her arm soothingly.

Jennie opened her eyes to look at me.

"You okay?" I whispered, gazing at her adoringly. "You're still dressed, baby~."

She closed her eyes and heaved a sigh. "I'm too tired to think about that." Jennie murmured. Then she opened them again, trying to blink the sleep out of them. "Everything alright with you?"

I smiled, brushing khaki hair away from her face. "Yeah. I'm going to take a shower. Go back to sleep."

Jennie needed no more encouragement.

Before I entered the bathroom, however, I made my way to the closet and pulled out a blanket, which I draped over her unmoving form. I knew perfectly well that she would refuse to slip under the covers with our son, but that was not to say I would let her freeze.
