Outside || Luke Hemmings

Prologue

‘But i don’t get it mommy, why can’t I go outside. There are a lot of other people outside, so why can’t I go’ I sighed and looked out the window. ‘Because you just can’t honey. It’s safer inside. Mommy never goes outside either, right?’ my mom answered.
‘Yes you do, you always go outside and so does daddy’ ‘But mommy and daddy need to make sure we have enough food in the house.’ ‘can I come next time? I’ll be quiet I promise mommy, please!’ I begged her.
All I wanted for years now was to go outside. I even once asked it for my birthday, but I still wasn’t allowed to.
‘No Ivy, we’ve talked about this before. You can’t go outside it’s too dangerous’ I nodded but didn’t look at her.
It didn’t look dangerous outside. Mommy told me it was dangerous all the time, but I never saw any danger. ‘I don’t understand’ I said again.
 ‘Ivy, if you can’t stop arguing with me, you can go up to your room’ my mom said, suddenly sounding very angry.
I ignored her and focused on the older lady walking inside the house next to ours. She didn’t notice me, no one ever noticed me.
I always thought that was weird, even though I was only 10 years old. They sometimes looked inside, but it was like they looked right past me. I even waved at someone once, but she didn’t wave back.

I spent my whole day, looking out the window and ignoring my parents. I even refused to eat my dinner and went to bed by myself without saying good night.
