Chapter 16: Revenge

I woke up from my sleep. I slept much better knowing that I didn't have to deal with my mother any more. I crawled out of bed and went over to the closet and picked out my clothes. Once I was all changed, I went to go meet everyone for breakfast.

I caught up with Alexandra and walked to breakfast with her. Once we arrived there was a huge table of different foods layed out. There were pancakes shaped as flowers and hearts. I got all my food and sat down next to Alexandra and some other Amity members. We started eating and I had some conversations with some people.

"Is it true what you're mom did to you?" asked an Amity girl

"Well she did do some pretty horrible things. I'm just glad to be away from there." I say gleefully

I quickly became friends with some people and we ate our breakfast peacefully.

After breakfast, we walked to the fields and started harvesting the wheat. I was at the outer edge of the field near the fence. All of a sudden a group of cars pulled up and some Dauntless members stepped out. They approached me, picked me up and put me into one of the cars. One Dauntless soldier strapped me in and then they drove away. I kept questioning them on where we were going but no one answered.

Once we came to a stop, a Dauntless put a blindfold on me so I wouldn't be able to see where I was and picked me up and brought me out of the car. I felt my body being flung over someones shoulder. They walked for 2 minutes before setting me in a chair. They put me in a chair with cuffs attached so I couldn't escape. After they took off my blindfold and left the room, closing the door behind them.

The room was very simple. Just two chairs and a table in the middle. A couple minutes later, I heard the door open and saw my mother walk through the door. She had an angry expression on her face. She walked over and sat down in the opposite chair.

"What am I doing here?" I ask trying to sound brave

"You're behaviour was inexcusable."she said

"How did you find me?" I ask

"Through a tracking device that was injected into you." she says

"Why am I here?" I ask

"Why do you think you're here?" she asks

For once, I don't have anything to say so I sit there with a blank expression on my face.

"You're brain thinks in a very complex way." she says

"So what?" I ask

"Therefore you are not obligated to change factions." she says

"And who are these rules made by?" I ask

"The founders." she simply replies

"The founders." I remark

My mother sits there staring at me.

"Why do you need me so bad?" I ask

"With you're knowledge, we can make sure society stays peaceful." she says

"How does my knowledge affect that?" I ask blandly

"We can create serums that can be used to keep the peace." she says

"And why do I have to be involved, you're the smartest person in Erudite." I say

"Its not up for discussion." she says

Suddenly there is a knock on the door. It bursts open, revealing Alexandra. She is dressed in Erudite clothes.

"Alexandra?" I ask

She smirks and walks over behind my mother.

"Whats going on?" I ask

"You actually thought that I was part of Amity?" she asks while laughing

"Wait, what? You're from Erudite?" I ask her

"You're so clueless." she says

"Whats happening here?" I ask my mother

"Alexandra has worked with me for a couple years now. I decided that she would pretend to be a member of Amity so you would think that she was loyal to you." my mother repeats

"How'd you know I would go to Amity though?" I question her

"Knowing you, its not that hard to figure out where you  would have gone." my mother says

"But Alexandra, why would you do this to me?" I ask

"Because Erudite should be in charge and be able to run the government. I was doing whats best for everyone." she says

A tear escapes my eye and I put my head down in shame.

"How was Johanna and every Amity member ok with me joining?" I ask

"They were put under a mind control serum." my mother says

I glance at her angrily.

"You'll never get away with this." I say under gritted teeth

"I already have." she says

I sit there with nothing to say.

"As of tomorrow, Erudite officially runs the government." she says

I put my head down so my hair is infront of my face. I close my eyes and hope this is all a nightmare. All of a sudden, I feel something being inserted into my neck andthe world goes black.
