An Angel Amongst the Stars (Supernatural x Doctor Who)

Countrycide Pt.3

Jack and I were joined by Owen, Gwen, and Toshiko. Gwen leaned against a tree looking away while Owen inspected the body. Toshiko crouched near the body and Jack and I stood watching them.

"Well, it's not Ellie Johnson that's for sure. This is a male, late 40's 50's..." Owen nodded to the maggot-ridden face of the corpse. Ianto wrapped yellow crime scene tape around the trees to form a perimeter. "...wasn't killed here. No blood splatter or signs of struggle. Must have been brought here after he died,"

"Why do that? It's not like they tried to bury him here," Gwen noted

"Maybe Jack and Angela distorted them and they ran away,"

"Maybe it's a warning." I said "Whoever or whatever's responsible, marking out their territory,"

"Whatever?" Ianto asked

I shrugged "There are a multitude of monsters I can think of that can do that form of damage,"

"Cause of death?" Jack and I asked simultaneously

"Impossible to say. Body's been stripped of the flesh and body organs so all that's left is a carcass,"

"Well my list has been narrowed down...what about yours?" I taunted Jack

"Could the Weevils have come out this far?" Toshiko asked

"No. Weevil's don't finish off their victims like this,"

We heard a car start and we all looked in the direction of the noise.

"Is that ours?" Gwen asked

"Yep," Jack said.

We ran from the clearing. Watching as the SUV was being driven over the tents. We ran towards the campsite and the thief drove away at speed. Owen, Toshiko, Ianto, and Gwen stopped running when they reached the tents, picking up their belongings, Jack and I continued running a short distance but were unable to catch the SUV.

"How's your list now?" Jack asked only to notice my fear-stricken face "Ange?"

"I've seen this happen before..." I admitted, turning to look at him "And it's no monster,"

"Alright I said I'm sorry!" Owen argued

"Basic security protocols, Owen," Toshiko argued

"Oh get off your high horse Tosh I was carrying that stupid gear,"

"What the whole time?"

"Yeah. Then I was trying to put that bloody tent up, and then...yeah, I sort of...forgot that I'd left 'em in there, but I'm sorry I'm human, I ballsed up,"

"Looks like that body wasn't a warning, more of a decoy," Jack said

"That would mean we've been watched since we've arrived," Gwen said

Jack placed a reassuring hand on my back as I balled my fists up. "Tosh, can you get a tracking signal?"

"Already done." Ianto said looking at a handheld device "I took the liberty...it's currently 3.4 miles west from here,"

"Travelling at 90 no doubt, you steal a piece of equipment like that, you drive straight on 'til morning," Owen said

"Actually no, it's been stationary for the past 4 minutes, I'd go so far as to say it was parked,"

Gwen looked at a map "There's a small village in that area. Other than that, nothing for 30 miles,"

"Call me suspicious, but this has all the hallmarks of a trap,"

The group all turned towards me as I loaded my gun.

"Yeah. I was just thinking the same thing. Anyone fancy a walk?"

Jack followed after me, smiling.

"Bloody hell, there's two of them," Owen muttered.

We walked slowly through the countryside before seeing a rundown row of 4 grey brick, two-story, terraced houses in the middle of the hills.

"Why would anyone want to live out 'ere?" Owen asked

"Has the SUV moved?" Jack asked

Ianto checked the tracking device and his watch "Not for, an hour now,"

We walked in a line towards the houses then stopped at the graveled dirt track that ran in front of the houses. A water pump gushed water into a hole in the grass and a tractor was parked nearby. Tires and metal barrels had been dumped carelessly around. Jack walked towards a pub, The Tap House, in the middle of the row of buildings.

"Tosh, Ianto, Ange, follow the signal, find the SUV. Owen, Gwen. Let's see if there's any room at the inn,"

Toshiko and Ianto walked away to go around the back of the houses.

I bit my lip as I watched them walk off.

"Hey..." Jack said softly.

I shook my head "I know you want me to go with them but...Jack I've done this case before and it...I...it didn't..." I was stopped when Jack kissed me.

"Whatever happens...I'll come and find you. But right now I trust you to keep Ianto and Tosh safe, they'll do the same for you, that's what this team does, we watch out for each other...I promise nothing bad will happen,"

I nodded, Jack kissing the top of my head. I turned to follow after Toshiko and Ianto, giving Jack a parting glance as he headed into the pub.

Ianto, Toshiko, and I followed the SUV tracking signal and walked up a hill towards a larger house which stood alone. Its windows had been boarded up but a couple of the windows on the second floor had been smashed and were open to the elements. "It's just half a mile up 'ere,"

Toshiko looked at Ianto and took the tracking device from him "At least we've still got this,"

Ianto smiled, letting her take over "The rest of my stuff was in the vehicle," Toshiko kicked over a metal can lying in front of the house as I looked inside while Ianto pushed at the front door locked. As he rattled the door a brief scream was heard and we looked towards the noise, me raising my gun.

"What was that?" Toshiko asked

"Just a...a fox or something." Ianto reasoned "Angela, check round the back,"

I nodded hesitantly "Yeah," I moved cautiously around the house, walking around the opposite side to Ianto. As I moved along the side of the house, I heard the same screaming noise again behind me and turned to look. I put my back against the wall of the house. Continuing towards the rear again, checking as I reached the corner of the back wall of the house. Dead pheasants and rabbits had been hung along the back wall of the house and from a tree nearby. I saw the back door and checked the handle. The door was also locked. I kicked it but it did not open. Ianto and Toshiko walked around the corner of the house towards me. I turned to look out at the hills behind the house, covering, Ianto and Tosh as they climbed over a low wall.

"Angela, come on!" Ianto called out. I lowered my gun, holstering it so I could get over the wall, but a figure pulled me from behind to the ground, knocking the gun from the holster. Before I could call for help...I was met with darkness.
