Levi had started cooking breakfast and Eren was setting the table, while TJ had headed back up the stairs to wake up Alex. Erwin waited here he was staring down the hall waiting for Hanji to come out of the bathroom so they could talk.

Minutes went by and he remained unmoved until Levi came in the room. "You two coming to breakfast?" he asked. "Everyone's already at the table," he said.

"Huh?" Erwin asked coming out of his staring contest with the empty air.

"Geez, how long has she been in there?" Levi asked walking up next to Erwin.

"How long have I been standing here?" he asked.

"Well, when we left the room I heard her walk into the bathroom. So probably around 15 minutes," Levi shrugged. "You should go check on her," Levi said before turning to head back into the dining room.

Erwin grabbed his arm before he could leave, "wait why me?" Erwin asked still unsure if his realization was right or not.

"You're denser than I thought," Levi sighed. "You said that you could tell me and Eren would get together from the very start right?" Levi asked.

"Yeah?" Erwin asked not seeing his point of bringing that up.

"Well, I've seen the same thing in two other people I know," Levi said before turning around and walking back into the dining room without another word.

"Who?" Erwin asked calling after him still confused by what Levi was saying.

He swore he heard him facepalm from the other room followed by Levi yelling, "Hey dumb shit just check on her already!"

Which was followed by one of the kids saying "Language."

Erwin had a suspicion and Levi was helping him prove it, but how could he be sure that this wasn't just some cruel dream that will disappear as soon as he woke up? How did he know this was real?

He hesitantly walked down the hallway and up to the bathroom door he brought his hand up to knock but stopped before following through. 'What am I even going to say?' Erwin thought to himself.

Despite not knowing he knocked anyway. Hanji opened the door expecting it to be Levi or Eren grabbing her because breakfast was ready. "I'm coming out don't- oh hey," she said with her usually cheery tone, but Erwin could see a difference to it a more awkward undertone.

"Hanji I-" he went to say, but Hanji cut him off.

"Sorry I was acting weird it was nothing," she said way too quickly bringing her hand up to rub the back of her neck for some comfort.

"Hanji," Erwin mumbled getting her attention, but when she looked up at him he lost his train of thoughts any words that he meant to speak melted into a silence.

'Here goes nothing,' he thought to himself having one idea he could do to explain what was going through his head. "If I am way out of line you can punch me," Erwin mumbled quickly making Hanji give him a baffled look.

He took a step forward closing the distance between them putting his hand on Hanji's cheek and bringing their faces close together. When his lips touched hers he felt so nervous he thought his heart would leap out of his chest.

Hanji was surprised, to say the least, but she didn't push him away she leaned in kissing him back. She felt as Erwin's arm snaked behind her back pulling her closer to him.

When they finally broke away from the kiss they both had one thing to say, "wow," they both mumbled.

"My dreams never did that justice," Erwin mumbled.

"Neither did mine," she agreed, "I wonder what else they weren't doing justice to," she said flicking her eyes down for a moment at Erwin's pants before giggling to herself.

Erwin's cheeks went red which he didn't even think was possible. "Guess we will have to see some time," he mumbled with a large grin.

Hanji laughed and threw her arms around him pulling him close. The playfulness was short lived and the atmosphere took a more serious turn.

"Can you promise me something?" Hanji said quietly.

"Anything," Erwin said.

"If this doesn't work out between us," she sighed not really wanting to think about that, "promise we will still be friends," she said looking up at him.

"Of course," Erwin said giving her a smile, "though I would rather prefer this works out.

"Me too," Hanji said.

"With that being said, Hanji will you be my girlfriend?" Erwin asked.

"Of course," Hanji giggled.

They were going to head back to the dining room for breakfast but decided to just sit down at the end of the hallway and talk. "I always thought the way I felt was one-sided and I decided that our friendship was more important and I didn't want to ruin it by making things awkward, "Erwin told her.

"Same here, I had promised myself that our friendship came first and that confessing my feelings would drive a wall between us," Hanji sighed. "I didn't want to be left alone again

"Again?" Erwin asked not really knowing what she meant.

"It's a long story," Hanji shook her head.

"Well, we have time, and as you know I'm a good listener," he gave her a smile.

"Okay, I guess," Hanji shrugged. "I mean well I've been alone for as long as I can remember. All my life I've never had anyone who I could call my own for very long," Hanji paused for a moment bringing her knees up to her chest.

"My own parents left me at an orphanage before I could even walk. It's no secret the foster care system is horrible. While there I was transferred from one house to another, each one worse than the last. So I never really got close to anyone. When I finally turned 18 I was kicked out with nothing and had to build my way up from there.

Eventually, I had made some of my own friends, but they had lives of their own and would always leave. Whether they moved away or drifted apart one by one they all left.

I had put myself through medical school and since I was smarter than most people I went through it quicker. My classmates, though they were nice, I never got to get close to any of them.

When I finally got a job at the school is when I finally began feeling less alone. I was able to afford dogs and I got Sonny and Bean, my own pets that made the lonely feeling more bearable. I had made friends with you, and forced my friendship on Levi," she chuckled a little at her wording of that, "and along the way, I made a few more friends who have surprisingly stayed by me for years. Every day I fear that one day you guys will leave, just because that's all I've ever known is lose and loneliness," Hanji sighed.

"Hanji, we'll never leave you," Erwin said wrapping his arms around her.

"Rationally I get that, but my brain likes to be irrational," Hanji sighed but continued on. "But even after all that, now I have my own friends who some of them are sitting in the other room right now. Now I have my own boyfriend who is my friend. I have my own little family that I found myself," Hanji smiled.

"Well, how about we go and join the family for breakfast?" Erwin asked.

"I'd like that," she smiled and they got up to head into the dining room.
