Can We Talk Alone

"Lila," Eren paused in the doorway a little confused. "What are you doing here?" He asked with a slight tilt of the head. As Levi appeared behind him stopping in his tracks with the same confused look on his face that Eren had. His face asking the same question that Eren had just asked.

Jean looked up at them and shook his head as if to say don't ask.

"My husband was the one who got into the accident with Jean," she whispered before closing her eyes and taking a breath to try and keep from crying again.

"Oh, I'm so sorry," Eren said regretting his question.

"It's alright," she said with a nod. "Jean here managed to help me by letting me know that I'm not so alone and that I'll be able to get through this," she smiled.

"I'm glad to hear," Levi said speaking up. "He's not wrong," he said with a shrug, "but I'm not going to sugarcoat it, it won't be easy," Levi said speaking from experience. "But you don't have to do it alone," Levi said walking up to her. "We'll be here for you if you need us to be," he said with a kind smile.

"Thank you," she said standing up to talk to him face to face. "Jean told me a little more about you guys and what you went through," she said looking at him.

"Oh did he now," Levi said looking over at Jean with a subtle glare but nodded knowing why he did it. Eren followed Levi and did the same.

"In all honesty, it really did help to know that you guys have made it through so much and still are full of smiles," she said dropping her gaze. 'I hope to find my smile again, but they stole it long ago,' she thought.

"Well, I'm glad to hear that it helped," Levi said.

"What exactly did he tell you?" Eren asked a little more nervous than Levi while he looked at Jean with a questioning look. 'Who knows what he was saying on those meds,' he thought.

"It wasn't anything too bad," Marco spoke up, but he missed the last minute of their conversation once he saw Eren and Levi heading down the hall.

"He just told me that you guys lost some important people in your lives," she said remembering one other thing that he told her. The thing that caught her off guard and she had to check her hearing and make sure that what she heard is what Jean said. 'Eren's been abused,' she remembered. 'Should I tell him he told me?' She asked herself. 'I want to ask him about it, but not here, not in front of everyone,' she told herself.

"Oh, I see," Eren said feeling a bit relieved.

Lila wanted to pull him aside and ask if he would walk with her to the vending machine for some privacy, but she didn't feel comfortable leaving her daughter alone in the room while she and Eren went on a stroll through the halls. 'Maybe if I ask him to just step into the hall where I can poke my head in to check on her if need be,' she thought.

She walked up to Eren and ask if they could talk in the hall and Eren agreed slightly confused. Levi just shrugged and walked over to the chair he was sitting in earlier. Marco took a seat next to Jean on the other side this time taking his free hand that wasn't holding Audrey on the bed.

"Sorry to pull you away from them but actually there was one thing Jean did tell me about you, and if it's true I have some questions," she said facing her eyes towards the ground while twirling her hands nervously.

"Um sure," Eren said a bit worried about what she would bring up. "What did he tell you?" He asked.

"Well, he said that you were abused as a kid, and possibly more?" She asked not sure if that's what Jean meant when he brought up the father's friends.
