There's a bible verse that says, "If you know what is good and don't do it, it is sin." At first I read that first and thought, "duh that's obvious." But when I think about it I see all the times when I did now what to do but I didn't want to, or I pretended I was lost. Honestly I'm writing this down I'm thinking of a specific incident in my life right now where I need to do something but I'm putting it off. I know I need to be honest with someone but I don't want to and so I keep saying, "I'll do it tomorrow." That counts as sinning. God will always forgive you, Jesus died to forgive us but that doesn't mean you can sin without consequences. Cause and effect, when you lie to people they loose trust in you. On Earth your sins will have consequences not because God is punishing you but because your actions have effects. God forgives you when you repent. Which is when you ask for forgiveness and you are really sorry and you try to do better the next time.
