Adalie's aunt makes crepes for us
Once the whole household has awakened.
Yellow circles with brown designs traced onto one side.
Then she drips sour lemon juice and sprinkles crystals of sugar.
I call it warm lemonade in a pancake.
Adalie, Ella and I sit on swivel stools
Trying not to let the crepes spill on to the white carpet,
Laughing about little things
And teasing Adalie's little cousins.
Somehow, literally overnight,
I have become friends with Adalie again.
When her hand touches mine,
Shivers run up my spine.
When her eyes lock with mine
My heart jumps.
