We begin to paddle back,
And when the entire sky seems to flash,
It doesn't take a genius to figure out we have a problem.
"Paddle faster!" Ella yells at me.
The wind begins to pick up,
Slower at first,
Then howling gusts pushing our boat from side to side.
I stare up at the ominous looking black clouds.
Another flash
Then the sky shakes with a clap of thunder,
Followed by drops of water.
"Why are you steering us towards the rock?" I ask Ella.
"I'm not trying to!" She responds,
Her face wild with fear.
I paddle with all my might, but it's futile.
We aren't getting out of the cove.
