I excuse myself early
Saying I have homework
And projects to complete.
I pull out my phone and
I scroll down to Adalie's number.
My finger hovers over the call button
And I almost press it
But I wouldn't know what to say if she picked up.
I don't get the chance to call her though
Because my door burst open and my older sister stands in the doorway glaring at me.
"Hey nerd," she says.
"I don't care how much homework you have
It's your night to do the dishes and you're not getting out of it."
"Megan!" I hear my mom shout from down the hall.
"I told you to ask her nicely!"
It's pointless to argue with my sister.
"Don't you knock?" I ask rudely
And shove past her down the hall to the kitchen.
"Mature," she calls after me.
"Real mature."
I resist the temptation to give her the finger.
