Soon enough, as I knew it would happen, I hear a slow song come on.
The strains of a violin slip out of the speakers
And onto the dance floor.
Ella and Miki have found each other and are slowly swaying in each other's arms.
The boy who's been moping around all week, grabs the nearest girl and pulls her into his arms.
He's only using her, and she probably know it.
But she doesn't exactly look unhappy.
I see Ethan worming his way towards me.
I can't run, or I'll look like a jerk.
I see another boy pushing through the crowds to her.
My blood boils.
Of course I would be stuck dancing with a boy I don't like while she dances with someone else.
Luckily, I see a look of fear pass over her face.
Unafraid of looking like a jerk, she turns on her heel and walks towards me.
"Want to dance?" She asks, seconds before Ethan reaches my side.
I don't have a chance to answer before she puts her arms around my waist.
"Why did you ask me?" I question, once Ethan has turned away.
"Why not?" She responds, a smile creeping onto her face.
"Friends can dance with each other, right?"
For a moment, it looks like she has me figured out.
For a moment, it looks like she's almost teasing me.
And for a moment, I want to run and hide.
But then I shake myself out of my daze and answer her.
"Yeah" I say.
"They can."
