2 weeks later...

Alex POV

Christmas and New Years came and went. Jeff loved every second of everything. He loved the presents, the snow, the New Years Eve kiss... Everything.

And now we were back at Dalton. Jeff was in the shower, and Nick and I were catching up.

"So how was break?" Nick asked.

"Uh... Great."

"What happened?"

"Is it really that obvious?"

"Yup."

"Jeff's been having really bad nightmares. Everything was great except for waking up to his screams every night... And..."

"And what?"

"His dad is getting out of jail near the end of the school year."

"What!?"

"I think he's going to try to get Jeff back. My uncle said he's going to get a lawyer. But we can't tell Jeff."

"Yeah, obviously. He'll go crazy."

"We need to make sure his dad never touches him ever again. I promised him I wouldn't let him get hurt. And now this is happening..."

"Did you tell Sebastian yet?"

"No..."

"Maybe you should. His uncle is like... really rich. Maybe he could get a better lawyer."

I gave Nick a look.

"Were you talking to him over break?" I asked.

"Maybe... I also maybe had a sleepover at his house."

I laughed.

"So you guys are actual friends now?"

"Yeah."

"Good. I'm glad."

Jeff came out of the bathroom and curled up in bed.

"Tired?" I asked.

"Mhmmm..."

"He's barely gotten any sleep," I told Nick.

"It's a good thing tomorrow is Saturday then."

There was a knock on the door. Nick answered it, and Sebastian came in.

"How was break?" I asked.

"Pretty good. How about you?" He asked.

"Good. Jeff sort of had a rough break though..."

"What happened?"

"He's just been having nightmares and trouble sleeping. Like... every single night."

"Oh... That's not good. Do you know why?"

"No... We can't figure out why. He just says he's been feeling super anxious lately."

"Maybe it's because of midterms," Sebastian said.

"Is that it, Jeff?" I asked.

"I don't know... I just... I don't know..."
