Chapter 8

A few days later...

Middle of the night...

Alex POV

"AHHH!"

I sat straight up in bed, and turned the light on. Jeff was sitting up beside me, looking so scared.

"You ok, Jeff?" I asked.

"U-um... I uh..."

"What? Nightmare?"

"Yeah..."

"What was it about?"

"Can we go talk out in the hall?"

"Yeah."

I followed Jeff out into the hall so Nick could get back to sleep.

"What was it about?" I asked.

"Sit."

Jeff slid down the wall to the floor, and I did the same.

"What's wrong? You normally aren't like this when you have nightmares."

"Because usually they're about my dad, but he's in jail, and I know he can't hurt me!"

"So what's different this time?"

"It was about you and Sebastian..."

"What happened?"

"Sebastian was picking on me, and you did it too. And then you kissed him, and left, holding hands with him. But he came back, and started beating me up, and saying things like how you never really loved me, and I keep having the same dream over and over again, and I'm scared it's true!"

"Jeff. It's not true, and it will never be true. I will always love you, and I will always hate Sebastian as long as he's hurting you and being a jerk."

"Promise me?"

"I promise, Jeff."

"Ok... Can we go back to bed now?"

"Yes."

The next day...

Alex POV

"Please go talk to the teacher and ask to change partners!" Jeff said.

"Jeff, I'll be fine," I said, pulling him off of my arm.

Jeff clung to my other arm instead.

"Is this because of the kiss?" Nick asked.

"Probably. Jeff, is that why you're scared?" I asked.

"You're partners with Sebastian for the project. I'm partners with Nick. But I don't want him to steal you away from me!"

"Jeff, don't worry. That won't happen."

Jeff crossed his arms, and pouted.

"This isn't fair," Jeff said, glaring at the floor.

"You're not the one that has to work on a project with him," I said, nudging him forwards.

"Life is so unfair!"

"Get used to it," Nick said, unlocking our dorm door.

Jeff flopped on the bed, and groaned.

"Jeff," I said, sitting down next to him.

"Life is so unfair!"

"Calm down," I said, rubbing his back a little bit.
