If your character(s) has a mental disorder that you know nothing about, LOOK IT UP FOR GOD SAKE! Nobody will judge. Nobody really cares. It's just that if you don't understand how a mental disorder works, what's the point in using it? It'll just make things even more confusing than they probably will be.

Mental disorders can be used to give your character depth and seem more real rather than one that has nothing wrong with them. And they don't have to be severe disorders either. They can be something simple like being a workaholic or claustrophobic.

Now this can be a very touchy subject so bare with me. You don't have to be blunt about having a condition. Just the actions and the way your character acts around other people is enough to give us all somewhat of an idea of what your character must being dealing with on a daily-ish base. Trust me.

Also, not all your characters should have a mental disorder. It's not required in any way, shape, or form. But just know that if you do decide to use any mental disorder to make sure you know how it works otherwise your readers will be confused.
