41.Teach Me to Understand

“Come. You sneak me lunch and I'll get the rest,” Anna commanded and I quickly understood her plan; so I dashed to grab her a steak before meeting her at the old pine, where she had a fire started. “Here is your knife. Now hurry,” she told as she handed me my pocket knife.

It took me only a few minutes to hunt several squirrels. I returned to Anna and traded the squirrels for a pitcher, which I ran to fill. I poured us each a glass of stream water; then I devoured my squirrels, while she ate her cooked steak. “Dear. Do you find me revolting because I eat food raw?” I asked concerned as I licked the last bone clean.

“No dear. You're a lion, first off; plus, I used to do it too,” she laughed as she easily swatted my arm.

“Even if I do it in this form?” I inquired as I stared at her.

“Yes, even in this form,” she giggled as she looked back. “Now I have a favor of you.”

“What is it, my dearest?” I questioned as I scooted closer.

“Try to teach me to understand lion. I know it probably won't work, but let's try,” she cheered as she dumped the pitcher of water on the fire, making smoke rapidly appear.

“I'll try,” I replied in English before I roared, “Hello Anna.”

“That was what?” she asked confused as she now was next to me.

“I said 'Hello Anna,'” I laughed before I roared it again.

“Hello Anna. Well, that is good to know. Another one please,” she begged as she stared into my eyes.

“How are you?” I roared before I translated it.

“Okay dear. One more time for both,” she pleaded before she pecked my cheek.

“Hello Anna. How are you?” I roared and she tried to memorize it.

“I think I have it. Let's go find Annie,” she cheered as she gathered our supplies.

“Okay,” I replied as I chased her across the field like we were still lions.
