Chapter XX

"Dear Goddess, that's like the fifth time-"

"Third." He corrected, leaning against the wall for support. His eyes locked with mine, frowning worriedly. I adverted my gaze

I knew it was dumb to believe the lies from long ago, but I couldn't help it. I was still trying to get used to the idea.

"Den? Can we go home?" I asked weakly. I could basically feel how hurt my mate was.

"You sure? String shorts nearly snapped your back." He ruffled my black hair, looking almost unsure.

"Ah, yeah." He helped me up, and it was now that I noticed I was wrapped in fresh bandages, a tingly feeling left behind.

My back ached with each movement, but I endured as Denton helped getting me out of the clinic.

I could hear my mate whimpering like a puppy, and it hurt to leave. The aching in my heart grew, and my wolf's whining grew unbearable.

I planted my feet to the ground, and Denton gave me a confused expression.

"Wait a bit." I told him before briskly walking back to my mate.

His eyes were wide in shock as I grabbed his waist, pulling his body flush with mine before grabbing the back of his neck and leaning down, giving him a quick peck on the lips.

"Please wait for me...." I mumbled into his ear, nuzzling his cheek and avoiding his gaze as I went back to Denton's side.

He gave a small smile, glancing back to the bird shifter before leaving.

He shifted and I hoisted myself on top of him, holding onto his fur tightly as he ran back to Ellis' pack.

"How do you feel?" He asked as he hopped into the drivers side of the car I brought here.

"Numb." I responded. "And you?" I watched him from the corner of my eye, fixing myself to lean against the passenger door.

He laughed like I told him a joke, and as he calmed down, I noticed his eyes were wet, but he held strong with a smile.

"Indie, I was just rejected, almost lost you, three times, and yes, Ellis told me about that little stunt you pulled, and I didn't even eat today since breakfast." His voice shook a little as he drove carefully back to his pack.

"Sorry for that.... wanna get takeout? It's on me." I pulled out my wallet from the glove compartment, watching him smile a little.

"Yeah... that sounds nice." Denton smiled a little more. "Thanks for reminding me, we still have each other." He reached over and ruffled my hair, laughing at my protests.

"Ha, how could you forget?" I responded quietly. I lifted a hand to my lips, touching them. They still tingled a little from the lingering kiss.

"Go invite the others. I think we need them." Denton said, grabbing his phone and handing it to me.

I took it, texting the others in the group chat.

"Alright, they got the message." I looked up at him to see him humming and drumming to the beat of the music.

He accidently did a wide turn, making me roll my eyes.

"We aren't in a tank or a jeep." He stuck his tongue out at me, pulling up to a drive through.

"-and that's everything that happened today." I said, bringing my legs up to my chest. Denton leaned against me, his eyes looking empty.

Terrace sniffed and held Hotch tighter, making the man groan a little and push him away. Sage stuffed his face with chips, trying to resist the sadness. He always hated crying in front of others.

I grabbed the bottle of Jack Ace had handed me, talking a long and hard swig. The burn made me feel a bit more alive, my aches dulling.

"Stop hogging it and give me some." Denton grabbed the bottle from my hands, chugging the entire thing. Everyone watched in surprise. He was never a drinker.

"Is he okay?" Hotch asked, grabbing a chip and eating it slowly.

"Remember, his mate rejected him. I just pushed mine away." He began lean even more onto me, grabbing my arm and crying.

"Why? Am I not good enough??" He slurred, pushing himself onto my lap and holding himself to my chest. He always did this, so it didn't really phase me.

We watched the movie playing on the screen, Denton just slurring and drinking whatever was in reach.

"My turn," I mumbled, grabbing the tequila he was about to down, then taking huge swigs of it. My past was burning in my mind, and I needed to forget.

Hotch handed me a tub of soft serve icecream, and I gave thanked him before shoving it in Denton's lap. He whined before picked the tub up, eating and crying.

"Jack you dumb bitch, just push her to make room!" He sobbed as he watched the Titanic, shoving the spoon full of ice cream into his mouth. I laughed a little, my mind becoming hazy.

"Haha.... wouldn't it be funny if they all died?"

I turned my chocked gaze to Ethan. His eyes were unfocused and tinged red. From the crying or if it was something else, I didn't know.

"Don't they always get like this?" I asked Ace from his lap. Everything I would attempt to get out, he would push me back in.

"Them two?" He scoffed.

Sage hummed, grabbing some more potato chips.

"Ethan gets really creepy. He acts all sadistic and laughs a lot, but he won't hurt anyone who smells of friend." He explained calmly, grabbing some soda.

"Oh?" I sighed and leaned back into the warm chest behind me. Ace seemed to purr, making me roll my eyes. These werewolves are a bunch of weirdos.

=-=-= well..... I'm still alive..... I apologise for all the neglect I've been giving Wattpad, I guess I just kinda forgot.... I'll try my best to update soon again.
