twenty seven-the kids aren't alright

Start from the beginning

"Well friends, are you ready to go up to our rooms?" Tom asked, waggling his eyebrows as him and Lola walked over to us.

I waggled my eyebrows back at him, "Sure am."

One room for the boys and one room for the girls, Lola explained. Her mum was trusting enough to send us all off to another state but apparently couldn't trust us not to get pregnant or AIDS or whatever. It wasn't like we could easily just walk into the guys' room. But rules were rules, Lola told us.

As we walked into the girls' room, I gasped in awe at how pretty it was. Three single beds, a larger-than-life window looking out to the beach, a bathroom that had more space than my bedroom and a spa bath.

"Oh and look!" I rushed to the little study table that was set up in the corner of the room. On top of it was a huge case of peonies. I took a deep breath in. "They're so beautiful."

Lola smiled at me fondly while Lauren paid zero attention to me.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's go clubbing, flower lady."

So while Lola left the room to get our fake ID's sorted out (she wouldn't tell us a single thing about it), Lauren and I decided to go visit the boys' room.

"Bow down you peasants, the queens have arrived." She announced our arrival in the most Lauren way possible.

Tom went along with her joke as he bowed down while Hunter just looked up from his phone and raised an eyebrow at us as if we were weird aliens invading his room.

I jumped onto Hunter's bed and started bouncing up and down, "Come on Hunter I know you're ecstatic to see us."

"Shouldn't you two be getting ready for tonight or raiding the fridge or something?" Hunter asked, not moving an inch from his spot.

I snatched his phone away and grinned, "Lola's getting out ID's sorted as we speak."

Tom made a shooing motion with his hands, "Be off then pesky females and leave us masculine males to do our thing."

"Ri-ight." Lauren said skeptically. "Whatever. Katie, let's leave these wimpy little boys to braid each other's hair."

And with that, Lauren sashayed out of the room with me following, clutching my stomach and laughing. I could hear the guys protesting as we left but we just high fives each other and went off to get ready.

Point one for girls.

"You. Look. Stunning." Lauren gushed as we both stood in front of the massive mirror in our room.

"Says you." I said and shot her a grin.

It took us an hour and a half but we were all ready to party. And we definitely looked 18.

Lauren had chosen an outfit consisting of a black mini, grey crop top and black wedges.

I had chosen a navy blue strapless dress that hugged my body and matched it with navy blue heels.

Lola, who refused to wear anything new too revealing, wore a chic black pencil skirt and a white singlet.

Lola had taken us out shopping after she came back for tonight's outfit (oh isn't it great being rich). She also presented us exclusive tickets into, apparently, 'the hottest club around'.

Okay so the fake ID thing was apparently just a joke (not to the rest of us) but Lola had gotten us an entry into a club as promised and that was all that mattered.

"You ready?" Asked Hunter as we met downstairs in the lobby. I gulped and ignored my heartbeat as it started racing ridiculously fast. He looked gorgeous in his white button up shirt and jeans. Yum.

I just nodded, not being able to get anything out. We split up into two groups and caught a taxi to the club.

And of course, Lauren, Lola and Tom (scheming jerks) left me alone with Hunter again. So we were stuck in a cab together. Oh hooray. More awkies small talk.

"So the weather looks nice toni-" I began but Hunter immediately cut me off.

"You look beautiful." He said. I had to use all my willpower not to let my mouth drop open and let myself start mumbling incoherently.

Well that was unexpected.

"I-Th-Thanks?" Oh no, not the incoherent mumbling.

He smiled, "I better keep an eye on you tonight, hey?" I stared at him blankly. He continued. "Wouldn't want some other guy taking you away from me."

What?

What?

Was Hunter freaking Ray flirting with me?

"I-I-Well my parents always told me not to talk to strangers so...so, like, it would be pretty hard for them to...like...take me away..." I mumbled. Incoherently. Again. I wanted to kick myself.

Hunter chuckled and ruffled my hair, "Good girl."

I couldn't help myself. My willpower faded as I let my mouth freely hang open. But he just put a finger under my chin and closed it again.

I wanted to kiss him so badly.

He was so close.

If I just leaned in and-

No. Wait for the right time. This was not the right time.

So instead of kissing him, I leaned back in my seat and slipped my hand into Hunter's, enjoying the rest of the ride.

This night was certainly going off to a great start.
