Unexpected

Chapter 48

Chapter 48 (Maddie's POV)

The next four years have gone by in a whirlwind. I'm out of Uni and working as a medical student. Niall and I are still happily together. He was promoted at his job at the music studio. 

I just turned 22 and Niall is 23. I feels like just yesterday he was that annoying little teenager who made smart remarks about me. 

Dad and I are doing great. He's a big part of my life now. Dad and Patti got married last year. It was a beautiful ceremony. The reception was right on the waters edge. 

Bree and I are still best friends. She and Jake are dating. 

Niall and I adopted a puppy named Wicca. She's a black lab and very small right now. Today we are going to visit  my dad. He got a house here in Ireland with Patti. 

Patti's daughter from a previous marriage just had a baby with her husband, Tom. They wanted us to meet the baby today. I got dressed in dark skinny jeans and a nice shirt. Niall was getting changed too, while I applied light makeup. 

Two arms laced around around my waist from behind. He set his chin on my shoulder, looking into the mirror in front of us. 

"You know you're beautiful, right?" Niall softly asked.

I blushed, twisting my head to kiss his lips. I turned back around to check on the time.

"Oh, Niall we have to leave!" I rushed. 

His grip on my waist loosened. Niall looked down, almost scared. 

I took his hand, "C'mon babe."

I tried to lead him out of the bathroom, but he let go of my palm. I turned around, confused. He gave me a weak smile. 

"I'll meet you in the car, I um have to do something," He said.

I stood in front of him for a minute. He noticed my facial expressions were worried, so he leaned down to give me a quick kiss. I walked out of the room and down the hall to the front door. I was still unsure of Niall. Something was going on.

We pulled up to my dads house and got out of the car. Niall took my hand, leading me to the front door. Before we even knocked, the wooden door swung open and Patti came out.

"Maddie! Niall!" She said with a wide smile. Niall and I were pulled into a warm hug. "Come inside! Baby Hayley is here!" 

We were taken inside and to the living room. Taylor, Patti's daughter, was sat on the couch holding a baby in her lap. My lips curved into a smile at the sight. Hayley looked so adorable wrapped up in her blanket. She was so calm and extremely cute. 

Taylor looked up to us. "Hi guys! This is Hayley," She said, looking back down to the infant. 

Niall touched my back, leading me closer to the small child.

"Would you like to hold her?" Taylor asked. 

I nodded and she lifted the baby into my arms. 

"She's so precious," I whispered, cradling the baby. 

Niall held my waist as I slowly rocked the baby. "She likes you," He quietly laughed.

Hayley had looked up to me and giggled. I let out a breath of laughter. I bowed my head to kiss the infants head.

Just then, my dad entered the room. 

"HI sweetie," he said, walking over to me and kissing my cheek.
