The day before Marlene was going to get killed along with her whole family Sirius had finally decided he was going to give her a promise ring to secure their future. After their funeral Sirius looked at Marlene's grave and laughed a little as a tear fell from his eye.
"Guess I jinxed it, didn't I?" Sirius left flowers at Marlene's grave and promised to live as happily as he could because that was what Marlene would have wanted. Though he never quite found anyone like Marlene McKinnon.
