After he calmed down he asked, "What?" with a small smile still on his face. "Is there something on my face?"

I snapped it of my daze as I continued my glaring, "No, I was marvelling at how you could be so entertained by someone else's pain."

"You weren't pained." He pointed out.

Damn it.

"Well I nearly had a heart attack so that counts as pain." I stated triumphantly. He just smirked but it quickly slipped as he frowned at me.

"Katie tell me what's wrong." He said but came out more like a demand. I knew what he was talking about. He was asking the reason as to why I'm so against celebrating my birthday much less Christmas. I could just say I'm not Christian and I don't believe in that sort of stuff. But how will that get me out of the birthday situation? I don't believe in getting old? I don't like to think about how I popped out of my mother's vagina?

"Is it because of your dad?" He asked cautiously. I was surprised at his guess but shook my head no.

I sighed, "Birthdays haven't been very joyful for me." I confessed. "I don't know, people just didn't seem to care and I always ended up alone."

Hunter's expression hardened as the words left my mouth making me regret ever telling him. God he had such a short temper. My emotions must've shown on my face because I saw his face soften a little as he placed his hand on my shoulder.

"Katie, no one is as important to us than you. We all care about each other so much and you're included." He told me softly. "You may have had bad experiences but I swear to god I will make this birthday the best you've ever had."

A tear escaped me as I threw my arms around him and hugged him tightly. At first I could feel him stiffen at my touch but graadually relaxed as he returned my embrace.

I may hate him at times and he was a complete pain in the ass most of the time but moments like this made me want to kiss him righ then and there. It wasn't fair, the way he made me fall for him again and again almost everyday and he probably didn't feel a thing towards me except friendship. I didn't care though because I was going to enjoy my birthday with the people I loved most.

"Aw, that was cute." We jumped away from each other as we heard Tom speak from the kitchen door. We looked to see Tom, Lauren and Lola all standing there giving us knowing smiles.

"Well now that we know the reason, let's get this party started!" Lauren hollered as she jumped up and down excitedly.

I pouted, "But where are we gonna have it? I mean it's pretty short notice."

They all have me grins that kind of scared me to be really honest. They were up to something, I just knew it.

"We kind sorta already planned it like a week ago." Tom told me with a sheepish smile. My mouth hung open as I stared at them in disbelief. So today was all a setup!

Lauren nodded, "Yeah and we purposely made Hunter go after you and convince you to celebrate your birthday."

Of course. Of course they would do that. Wait a second! Realisation hit me like a brick.

"Why did you send Hunter of all people?" I asked them narrowing my eyes. Only Tom knew about my stupid crush on Hunter so far. Unless he spilled and if he did I am going to castrate him with a rusty knife.

Hunter shrugged nonchalantly, "They just told me that I was the most convincing in our group." He explained. Relief filled me as I figured out what the others did.

"Right. I'm sure they did." I shot them a dirty look.

Lola patted me on the back, "Anyway, let's get you ready while the boys go over to the venue and get last minute preparations done, yeah?" She said trying to get my mind off the fact that I was going to kill them for dropping such an obvious hint on Hunter.
