"Pfft, never liked you." I replied as I chose a particular You Me At Six song that I liked and leaned back on my seat.
Hunter opened his eyes slightly as he turned his head to face me and smiled, "It's a shame. Anyone would be lucky to have you like them." He said. And befor I could question him about what the hell he meant by that, he turned away and closed his eyes again. I clenched my fists as I fumed.
"It's a real shame." I said mimicking him as I pulled his hood down over his eyes. When he sat up to glare at me I just laughed.
After about thirty minutes we pulled up in front of the museum we were supposed to be spending the day at. I caught sight of Lauren's class and I gave a quick wave to her before I was pulled away by Hunter because our group had already gone in.
Once we were inside the museum, we were given worksheets to complete with a partner. Oh yay!!! Note sarcasm!!! Trust our school to come up with the most boring idea for a field trip.
A staff that worked at the museum explained the rules that they had here which included no loud chatter, no running and no eating or drinking whatsoever. After that we were made to write our names down on a piece of paper along with our partner's. So I took the pen off the teacher and wrote down mine and Hunter's
Finally after that lengthy session of 'rules and guidelines' drilled into our heads, we were allowed to split off into our teams and complete our worksheet. I was kind of ashamed to admit it but I didn't mind museums. I loved the art and the fun activities they had (which was mainly for younger children but shh).
"Where do you want to go first?" Hunter asked me. I quickly scanned the map that we had been given and saw that there was a interactive rainforest display. Even though it had no connection to what we were learning in class, I wanted to go.
"Here." I replied pointing to the rainforest display area on the map. He raised an eyebrow at me but nodded.
"Right. Let's get going then." He said enthusiastically.
I couldn't tell if it was sarcastic or not. I tagged along behind him looking around at all the familiar things I saw as a child. It gave me a hint of nostalgia but I did my best to ignore it.
Once we arrived, I had to hold back the urge to gasp in delight. It was exactly how it was twelve years ago when I came here. It was a rainforest wonderland as they turned the treetops into a playground. Slides going down from the top of the tree right down the trunk, swings made from dwindling vines. Mechanical animals made noise and moved in every corner of the room and an educational video was streaming on a big screen against one of the walls. Hunter must've noticed my excitement because he turned to me with a smirk.
"I knew you were a kid." He chuckled. "How old are you again?" He asked jokingly.
I rolled my eyes, "Older than you, jerkwad." I replied dryly but I knew I wasn't. He turned 18 in April this year and my birthday wasn't until next week. "It's just that my dad used to take me here all the time when I was little."
Hunter's expression changed and I swear I saw his features soften. Which rarely happened by the way. His face was always either in a scowl or a smirk. Those were his daily facial expressions. But I guess he felt kind of sorry? For me because he knew the situation with my dad.
I felt a warm arm wrap around my shoulder as Hunter pulled me closer to him, "I know I'm not your dad but I hope I can suffice." He said gently as he turned and gave me a small smile. I was at a loss for words so I just returned the smile and looked away quickly before he could see my blush.
This is what friends did right? Hunter was only being a good friend and there I was stomach doing somersaults and heart fluttering.
