"How did it go?" I asked her, putting a hand in her shoulder.
"They said they needed you all to come in and speak as well." She answered. "Not today of course. But sometime next week. They want to get this done as soon as possible."
Lauren's parents came over and joined us after a few moments.
"We would like to invite all your parents' over for dinner tonight and discuss what will happen." Lauren's mum told us with a small smile. I knew she felt nervous. We all did. But one person who looked beyond that was Hunter. He had an expression on his face that was unusual. He looked genuinely...afraid. Of what though?

We had given Lauren's parents all our parents' numbers and they promised us that they will sort everything out. One thing that caught my attention though was Hunter's odd behaviour. He was talking to them afterwards away from us. When we asked him what they were talking about he wouldn't tell us. Just vaguely dismissed us saying that his parents couldn't make it tonight. I knew something was up but decided not to question him further on it because I knew he wouldn't tell anyone that forced him.
Once I arrived home, I was greeted by my mum. She was sitting at the kitchen table holding a mug and reading a book. The sight was so surprising and seemed so surreal it almost scared me because I had not seen my mother at home for quite a while now and I had forgotten how it felt to be greeted by someone when I came home.
"I heard about this whole court case fiasco." My mother told me as she gave me a sympathetic look and patted the chair beside her. "I know it must be hard for you to see your poor friend go through this."
I simply nodded as I took her up on her offer and sat down beside her at the kitchen table. It felt slightly awkward but a warm feeling spread throughout my chest as she handed me a biscuit.
"It must be awful." She sighed as she rubbed my back soothingly. "Would you like to have some tea?"
I hesitated for a second but nodded, "Yes please."
She eyed me, "You're style is a bit different today Katie." She said as she poured some tea in a mug while I sat there realising that I wasn't dressed like a slut anymore these days.
I felt anger boiling inside of me. Ever since my dad left us, she had been working her ass off at the hospital and was never home. She told me that it was so that she could give me all the luxuries I deserved and the life I wanted. And I was so grateful for that when I was younger but now, I realised that she was also doing it mostly so that she could distract herself from the fact that he left her. I was never mad at her. I was just sick of feeling alone.
As my mum handed me the mug, I thanked her, "I'm going to take this up to my room." I told her and ignored the guilt that crept up when I saw her face fall. "You know about the dinner we're invited to tonight, right?"
"Yes. Laura's parents called me and informed about it." She replied. I bit the inside oft cheek at how she didn't even know my friend's name. I bet she still thought I hung out with Georgia's group. She didn't know me at all and she didn't even bother to make an effort.
The guilt had gone and was replaced by anger. I slammed the mug down on the table as hard as I could without the tea sloshing out, "I'll see you at seven." I muttered as I walked up the stairs to my room. I didn't even bother correcting her. There was no point.
