Lunchtime was a bit of a worry for me as well since Georgia's group could easily come over and harass me without any teachers noticing. Although I doubt they'd do that with Hunter by my side like a freaking guard dog. He literally has not left my side. He was going to have to next period though because I had English.
When we entered the cafeteria, I saw Taylor flirting with Mike, basically throwing herself at him. I sighed. I guess that was expected. Even if I was still in their group. Mike noticed me though and left her as he walked over towards me.
He gave me a grin, "Hey babe. Heard you started quite the war between you and Georgia." He said.
I forced a laugh, "Yeah. Guess they didn't like my new friends." I mentioned ny new group to see how he'd react.
He shrugged, "Guess not. Anyway, I'm proud you stood up to her. She can be a bitch sometimes." He told me which was surprising. I thought guys like him worshipped girls like Georgia. "Anyway, I have to go. Are you coming up to the field today?"
I shook my head, "I think I'll just hide out in the cafeteria today." I told him.
He nodded and leaned in to kiss me on the cheek quickly, "See you later babe." And with that, he went off to join his friends while Hunter and I joined the rest of the group. I also realised that Hunter's mood had dropped down noticeably. I guess he didn't really like Mike or the stress of 'protecting me' is getting to him.
Lauren gave me a massive hug once I took a seat beside her, "You did a great job. I'm so proud of you."
"We all are." Tom chimed in.
Lola had bought us a plate of hot chips so we decided to spilt it and celebrate my newfound freedom.
When the bell rang for afternoon classes, Hunter made sure that Tom took care of me and punch anyone who decided to harass me.
Tom out his hands up, "Jeez Hunter. Calm down. You're like an overprotective dad."
He glared at Tom, "I'm being serious Tom. She risked a lot to be with us. We knew there would be consequences." He told him. My heart fluttered at his kindness. He was treating me so differently than before.
Tom seemed to understand what he was getting at so he promised to take good care of me. English went by safely though because we didn't have anyone from Georgia's group in that class. The bell rang for home time quicker than I thought. Tom and I walked outside the school gates to where the others were waiting.
Lola gave me her sweet smile, "How was your last class?" She asked me.
I returned her smile, "It was perfectly fine. Tom did a good job looking after me."
Tom nodded and put out his hand to Hunter, "I babysat you daughter and made sure she didn't cry. Now you gotta pay me." He smirked. "Daddy Hunter."
We all burst out laughing except for Hunter who was glaring at Tom. He knew he pissed him off so he started running off and Hunter chased after him, "You better hope you can outrun me asshole!" I heard Hunter shout. Lauren, Lola and I started laughing again.
Lauren explained to me that they usually went to the park near the area after school and then on Fridays they went to the game centre. Which now made a lot of sense and I wished that I had known this earlier so I could've avoided the run in at the park and them witnessing the little make out session with Mike.
Once we arrived at the park, we noticed Hunter and Tom swinging on the swings laughing like old mates.
"I see you haven't killed Tom yet." I said as I sat on the ground next to the swing set.
Tom eyed Hunter, "Not yet he hasn't." He said cautiously. Hunter gave him a mischievous smile.
We then started talking about how Geogia reacted this morning. We made fun of them and laughed until our stomachs hurt. But after about an hour Lola's phone started ringing and she told us that she had to go home so we all decided to leave. Hunter kept me back though and let the others leave. They all made a big deal out of it and started whistling.
I rolled my eyes and turned to face Hunter, "What's up?" I asked him, studying his face.
"Are you going to break up with him?" He asked, getting straight to the point.
I bit my lip awkwardly because I wasn't expecting that question from him, "I'm not sure yet. I'm still thinking about it." I said to him. Then moved on to the more important question. "Why?"
It was his turn to feel awkward as he averted his gaze from mine, "He's a jerk." He muttered.
I laughed, "Look, he might seem like one but I promise you he's not. Remember he's on our side, not Georgia's." I reassured him. But he still had a scowl on his face. I decided to be courageous. "Do you like me?"
Hunter's mouth dropped open as soon as the question escaped mine and I was beginning to regret ever saying anything when he said, "Yeah I do."
Now it was my turn to look at him with my mouth open, "Wait-"
"I like you as much as you like yourself." He stated. I stood there until sunk in.
"Great you hate me then." I huffed. "Thanks for giving me a heart attack."
Hunter smirked, "So you wanted me to say yes?"
"No!" I exclaimed.
"I was only joking by the way. I don't hate you." He finally smiled for what felt like the first time today and walk off. He left me standing there, confused and pissed off, again.
