Chapter Twenty-Eight

The unfamiliar sound of the wake up bell rang through my ears, causing me to wake up suddenly. I looked over to Kimberley’s bed to see it unoccupied and neatly made already. I could hear the low sound of the shower on in the bathroom and figured that’s where Kim was, because of course, Sarah was not up yet. I lay down for a bit and sighed. I had been looking forward to today, I knew me and Kim had a free together in the morning, just us, but now I wasn’t sure if she would even want to be anywhere near me. I just didn’t understand what was going on.  The door of the bathroom opened and Kim walked out, all ready dressed in her uniform, I didn’t acknowledge her at all, why should I make a special effort if she wasn’t going to. I rolled back my duvet, grabbed my uniform and towel before heading towards the bathroom, leaving Kim behind me.  As I took my shower, my thoughts came back to the last time me and Kim were in here together, how funny it was at her expression when I got in the shower with her still in the room and how that was the day, the day we kissed.  Realising I was making myself worse by just standing and thinking I got out of the shower, the cold air hitting me sharply, causing me to dress quickly, I still had a bit of trouble doing my tie and today it took me twice as long to get it how I wanted it, I sighed to myself, this was just the way my day was going to be I knew it.  I was surprised to walk back into the dorm and to see Sarah actually sat up in bed, awake, only half an hour after the bell, this was some achievement for her,

“Your up early,” I smiled at Sarah, Kim listening to her Ipod on her bed.

“I know, it feels strange,  but I always miss breakfast and today I actually want some, you coming?”

“Well don’t you want to get ready first?” I asked.

“Good point,” She got up out of bed, turned around, taking off her bed top and fastened her bra into place, she then grabbed her shirt from her suitcase and put it on. She put her skirt and tights on in the same amount of speed, ran her hand through her short blonde hair and smiled. “All done,”

“You get ready too quickly,” I laughed.

“The wonders of short hair,” she laughed. “Oi Kimba!?” Sarah shouted, waving her hands in Kim’s eye line, you coming down to breakfast?”

She shook her head, she couldn’t even muster a word out for us, something must be really up.

“Sort it out Kim whatever it is,” Sarah said coldly as she made her way out of the dorm to which I followed.

I couldn’t take any food this morning, so I just watched Sarah devour two bacon sandwiches and two bowls of cereal, before she left to go to her lesson, I walked slowly back to the dorm, for once not in any hurry to return there. I secretly hoped Kim would of gone somewhere, I couldn’t take the awkwardness anymore. To my disappointment, Kim was still sat on her bed, this time reading a book, her eyes not leaving the page as I walked in.

“Alright,” I murmured, entering the bathroom wanting to get away for a moment. I brushed my teeth for much longer the usual, wishing I didn’t have to walk back into the dorm to get out. I forced myself to put down the toothbrush and walk out, I had as much right to be in there as she did.

“How did we get like this?” She surprised me by actually talking, still staring at her book.

I stopped and turned around slowly standing over her bed, “ ‘We’ didn’t get like anything, you did,” I told her bluntly, never one to mince my words.

“I didn’t – this isn’t what I wante-,” she said, holding her head in her hands.

“Well then what did you want Kimberley? What do you want?” I asked her, finding it hard not to shout.
