I wake up to Lucy Gray singing Happy Birthday to me. It's been about a week since I have gotten better and they are just happy I'm not wheezing anymore. I open my eyes and I smile at Lucy Gray
"Happy birthday Briar Rose" Lucy Gray says smiling
"Thank you" I say smiling
"How does it feel to be 13?" Lucy Gray asks
She asks me this question every birthday and each year I have the same answer
"The same as yesterday" I say
"You're 8 in the Capitol now" Lucy Gray says smiling
I frown a little bit that is 5 years younger than I actually am. I haven't grown at all though I am still four feet tall
"I know you don't like it. I'm sorry it had to be that way, but I got you a little something" Lucy Gray says pulling a gift from behind her back
I sit up and smile as Lucy Gray hands the present to me
"Can I open it now?" I ask Lucy Gray
"Of course" She says sitting on the bed
I carefully tear the paper of the present and I look at the book and I immediately smile wide and put the book down flapping my hands happily
"It's my favorite nature book! Where did you find this?" I ask Lucy Gray
When I first started getting settled into my room I looked ok my shelf of books for this book and I couldn't find it. Coriolanus and Lucy Gray told me that this book isn't in the Capitol because of how outdated it is
"Look in the inside cover" Lucy Gray says with a look of excitement
I flip to the inside cover of the book and it has writing in it

Happy 13th birthday. We hope you have a great day. We got your letter and also another letter from Lucy Gray saying your favorite nature book wasn't in the Capitol. This is the book from home. We miss you a lot. Maude Ivory says she wants some sweets from Ma Plinth and we definitely want to see a picture of Bean. We hope to see you soon! Here's to being a teenager! Happy birthday we love you!

I look at the note tears coming to my eyes. I miss them so much. I want to go home. I look up at Lucy Gray tears rolling down my cheeks. She pulls me into a hug and I keep crying
"I miss them so much" I say while sobbing
"I miss them too" Lucy Gray says stroking my hair
"Why can't we see them?" I ask
"I'm not sure. Maybe because Coriolanus thinks that we will run away from him" Lucy Gray says
"But we wouldn't. Would we?" I ask Lucy Gray
"I'm not sure hon" Lucy Gray says rubbing my back
I nod and start to calm down a bit while snuggling close to Lucy Gray
"You shouldn't be crying on your birthday. It's supposed to be a happy day silly" Lucy Gray says wiping the tears from my cheeks
I sniffle a little bit and nod letting myself calm down completely
